Woman Notices Man Next To Her Is Texting Someone That He’s Sitting Next To ‘Smelly Fatty’, And It Escalates Quickly
Many suffer from body-shaming but one woman has just claimed that she had to endure it while on a plane. By a man sitting next to her. “Before I knew it, I could feel hot, salty tears coming down my face,” Savannah Phillips wrote on Facebook. She said she was stuck there, crying because of the humiliation she couldn’t escape from.
“I haven’t experienced body-shaming like that since I was in grade school,” Savannah told Bored Panda. The whole incident, however, took an unexpected turn when another passenger intervened to help her. It was a bar manager, Chase Irwin.
“I would also like to add that I do forgive him,” Savannah said. “I have said lots of things in my life that I shouldn’t have, just like everyone else. If I hated him, I would not be any different and it is vital to respond with love. Only love brings change in the world.”
Phillips said that neither she nor Chase have spoken with the man ever since. She doesn’t even know who he is. “And I really don’t want to know. I don’t want this story to be about him – my goal was for it to be about Chase and how we should all be brave like he was and stand up for others.”

Whilst I understand that what the man wrote wasn't very nice, she was reading a private message from a man to his wife. Society is in real danger of becoming totalitarian, if people are no longer allowed to say what they want in PRIVATE messages. Like I said, it wasn't very nice of him and it's horrible she saw it but, what someone writes to someone in a private message is nobody's business but the sender and recipient of said message.

I confess I have not been on a plane in years, so forgive my ignorance. But aren't you supposed to wait until the plane takes off before using electronic devices? Also, shouldn't you be listening while the flight attendant is giving safety instructions?
Instructions have not changed in the last 30 years at least. There is a little icon where the "call flight attendant" symbol lights up now, it is for cell phone use in the plane and lets you know when it's ok and when it's not

An Alaska Air plane I was on just last week had a single row of seats in First Class... there were single seats on one side, double on the other. Into Coach, there were 2 seats on each side (TEENY TINY seats). So they do exist.

Meh. Boohoo. You shouldn't be nosey and read other people's messages. She admitted she was fat, not sure if she was smelly, but he didn't choose to make a big scene about it. He sat there and messaged a friend (or whoever)... He could have said something to her face, he could have asked to move and cause a scene, he could have actually been vocal. At the same time, if she was smelly she should have at least bought deodorant at the airport. As for her weight, I have nothing against it BUT if parts of your body are bursting into my area and you can't fit into your seat - then it's an issue. Just like carry on luggage has to fit within a certain dimension, people should too for flights. It sounds harsh - but at the end of the day it does affect others, or does make other uncomfortable, and it's not good for her health.
I travel a lot and I know the struggle to be stuck on an airplane next to someobe stinky. It is a really phisical feeling and my head hurts. First of all, Savannah isn't unusually large - she looks like a lot of women. Secondly, i feel sorry for the texter's girlfriend/wife - he doesn't sound like a keeper to me. And, thirdly, I have had skinny men sit next to me on planes with their legs spread into my area and their arms spread out over the arm rest.

If I had a friend or family member that texted me something like that I'd be ashamed of them. If a friend I'd probably drop them as that's not the type of person I'd want to be friends with and if a family member they'd soon know what I thought. How unnecessary a text like that is.
But five year olds aren’t the only people with a sense of smell. If this woman really smelled bad, then she had no right to inflict that on people around her. If someone smells terrible on an airplane, it makes sense that the other passengers would complain quietly to their friends.
