Russian Guy Renovates Apartments For Pensioners And War Veterans For Free

Russian Guy Renovates Apartments For Pensioners And War Veterans For Free

A 33-year-old from Russia is on a simple mission. To better the lives of pensioners and war veterans. The way he goes about it, however, is anything but simple. Anton Savchuk isn’t a millionaire, he’s a humble construction worker, but that doesn’t stop him from picking his own pocket to renovate the homes of these sometimes forgotten citizens.

More info: Instagram

“When I was watching TV, I noticed how poorly some of the people who get medals or gifts from officials live,” Anton told Bored Panda. “These people are living far from good and it really bothered me. I thought, ‘How is this possible that those who served their motherland could live like this?’ War veterans are remembered once a year, on the 9th of May (Victory Day). People with disabilities live in similar conditions. If my project lives on, I’ll include struggling teachers and doctors as well.”

And after

“We renovated a home that belonged to a veteran of the Second World War which consisted of three different parts, a disabled person, a tram driver, and another veteran who fought in the Siege of Leningrad.”

Valentina Isaevna is 71 years old and has been disabled since childhood. This is her apartment before Anton started working on it

And here it is after

“When I started the project, I had some money that I’ve saved up before. At first, I spent about $1,500 but then I realized that the work I was doing wasn’t enough,” Anton said. “The last renovation that I did was the most expensive one. I want to find somebody who could sponsor the work but for that, I probably need more followers and views. Currently, I’m not sure if I will be able to continue my project or not because it relies on my money that is quickly running out.”

95-year-old war veteran Vasily Fedorovich and his wife Tamara Aleksandrovna have been together over 60 years. Here’s how their apartment looked when Anton visited it

Anton has a few people who help him. The three of them usually take anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks to complete one renovation. “We paid 99% for the first three renovations,” he continued. “Then, some people started sending donations but there were very few of them. We even got a couple of donations from the USA, Canada, and Europe and even though these were rare cases, it really struck me.”

Anton said he never thought this could’ve happened. So far, however, the donations don’t make up a substantial amount. “Usually, people send some money for work supplies, coffee, or tea (they say so in the messages), but even though it’s mostly a few dollars, it’s incredibly nice. Every little bit helps and inspires me to continue. It makes me realize I’m not alone in my quest.”

Tatyana Ilyinichnam who survived the blockade of Leningrad, will soon celebrate her 80th birthday. Here’s her place before the renovation

A cluttered and/or a broken house, could mean: a cluttered AND broken mind. A even such a small thing like rearranging your home a tiny bit, a fresh coat of paint once every decade (or every couple of years) can make such a huge difference especially for veterans and/or for people struggling with burnouts and/or mental health issues.

Just hush. Russia coughed up more sacrifice in WW2 than the whole GLOBE. Read a history book about how challenging it was to live there before the wall came down and capitalism rushed in. Honestly, the comments people make with such little understanding.

He should start on gofundme or kickstarters websites. I am sure he will get much more cash since lots of people are donating money on webs like these!

The money that he spends from his own pocket is not even the case here. He's giving his time to make these people live in better conditions. He spends the time for the people in need, when most of us would rather and use it to spend chilling, hanging out with friends, socializing, literally do anything else but to be helpful to others. I renovated my own flat by ripping off the old wallpapers, sandpapering the walls, and painting them all by myself, just 2 rooms and a corridor and my god did I hate it... i thought DIY'ing it would be fun and I was stubborn so I didn't want to hire a guy to do it after I started. it was a long and very tiresome job, it took me a little over 2 weeks to finish it all up completely, as I work during the day. So the respect I have for him, knowing the work and effort he put in these projects is incredible. Such a selfless and caring thing to do for people who can't afford to do it themselves.

What an unselfish guy. It proves people don't need some big makeover. Just having a fresh, bright new coat of paint, good floors and a comfortable bed can make a huge difference in someone's life.

Every Putin supporter needs to see these pictures. Billions in oil money and yet citizens live like THAT! I am Russian, so trust me - these are not even the worst living conditions in Russia. Some people there do not have access to running water or do not have sewage system and use pit toilets. SHAME!

Pretty much every country is run by people who have no clue. Think about the type of personality it takes to think "Yeah, I'm the right person who should be leading millions of people". You have to be a little egomaniacal to think that highly of yourself, so they're all a bit f****d.

The Russian state. That's the landlord and those conditions are rather typical for deep province areas. A 100$ pension is a norm, a 300$ one is considered a "big pension".
