Man Recovering From Surgery Wakes Up To A Stranger Cat Cuddling Him
Sometimes animals know what humans need better than we do – and in the case of one man recovering from surgery, that was some cuddles. Andrew Falloon, Member of Parliament for Rangitata in New Zealand, tweeted out an adorable photo of his dad, who had recently come home from the hospital, snuggled up with a cat – only Mr. Falloon Sr. doesn’t own a cat.
That’s right when the man awoke from a nap he was met with a mystery feline cuddler cozied up by his neck. It seems the pawed stranger had wandered in through the door and decided the recovering patient could use some extra love.

According to the younger Mr. Falloon’s tweet, his mother had left the door open and the cat saw his chance to creep into the home. “Mum arrived home and found them cuddled up together on the couch,” He told Bored Panda, “She snapped the photo before waking Dad up. He was pretty surprised to find the cat curled up!” Later when he visited his mother showed him the photo, which he graciously shared with the internet.

To Falloon’s surprise, the tweet exploded across the internet, which he said was never his intention: “After Mum sent me the photo I popped it up on Twitter, thinking it might make a few people smile, but I never expected it would go so far. When I went to bed on Sunday night (New Zealand time) it had a couple of thousand views, when I woke up it was in the millions. Now it’s in the tens of millions.”

So who is this mystery cat? Falloon wrote, “He’s from somewhere in the neighborhood. It isn’t the first time he’s turned up to their house, but his first time he’s jumped up on Dad. Apparently, his name is Ziggy and it’s quite common for him to go wandering.” After his dad woke up the adventurous cat hung out a bit before wandering back out.

The parliament member said his parents haven’t had a cat for a few years now, because ironically, “Up until now my Dad hasn’t really been much of a cat person, but I guess he is now.” But with Ziggy hanging around it seems that there is no need for a new pet, “Ziggy seems to have adopted my Dad, so I’m not sure if they’ll get another cat. My parents are just happy to have him visit every so often.”

All in all, both of the Falloons have been overwhelmed by the attention, “It’s nice to have Dad on the mend after his operation, but he’s a bit blown away by all the coverage. I had to explain to him what Twitter was and how it’s been seen by so many people.”

I’m sure that cat was purring like crazy. There’s something about a cats purr that is quite healing.
My husband had throat cancer a few years ago. The chemo and radiation treatments were brutal, he almost died. Every time we came home after treatment our cat would crawl under the covers with him, just wrap himself around my husband. My husband is in remission and he and pretty boy are inseperatable.
My dad went through the same thing in 2009. Our family cat would lay on the back of the couch and wait until my dad would fall asleep. Then he'd crawl down and lay between his legs. We always knew where to find him. Keeping watch over my dad. I miss that goofy cat. May you rest in peace Mr. Sexy (my sil named him). I'm glad your husband had a precious fur baby looking out for him. It does make it a little easier to know your loved ones are watched over. Animals really are a blessing from God.
Load More Replies...Cats are very good about knowing when someone is ill and needs comfort. This is lovely.
How cute. Cats know when someone is recovering. Mine was at my side when I had a surgury of my Third molars.
My husband has a chronic disease - and the little stray I took in - against his will - now shares his new hospital bed with him - always warming his toes!
Cats seem to have a way of knowing when their humans are sick or sad ... mine certainly do. They will often come and snuggle up to me. Maxie talks to me constantly and is very able to make me understand what he wants.
Cats are usually very reluctant to have their paws touched! That must be one secure kitty :)
We have a tabby cat that visits and she lives across the alley.Everyone knows Sandy..
One day the cat appeared as though by magic to aid us in our time of need and then as quickly as it appeared, it vanished, off to aid others who needed him. He was a saint with a righteous cause, saving humanity one cuddle at a time.
read somewhere, a strange man was at the bottom of stairs, the womans cat attacked him jumping on his head..he fled
I got the big gray kitten when he followed me up the stairs and into my apartment when I came home from work one day. I turned around, and there were FOUR cats sitting in a row waiting for a small piece of cheese. He was 9 months at the time. He lived to be 13.
Science has proven cat purrs can help heal bones and ailments faster! This cat likely sensed he needed help and certainly wanted a cuddle buddy.
This is the most wonderful thing I've seen on Bored Panda in ages...
Heh, for things like this is why more people prefer pets than people. Who doesn't was a fluffy companion that won't be a a*****e to you?
I met my cat in the middle of a 5 lane road. I was terrified to see him out there (it was 2am thankfully) so we stopped the car and I bent down to call him over and he jumped right into my arms. Greatest thing that has ever happened to me.
The dad: waking up* The dad: why is there a cat Cat: Hippity hoppity you are now my property.
I have a theory, we humans have only vestiges of our femoronasal organ, but cats and other animals have this organ and very active ... So when we are healing ourselves from some serious injury we as animals "smell" pity, then some animals Come to our aid.
For years I couldn't have a cat because of the lease terms. I moved and one night I wondered what'd it be like to have a cat show up at my door the next morning. Sure enough, I promise, one did. It was magic.
A week before I was due to go for heart bypass surgery, a young white cat with a black tail and face patch sat on the windowsill and demanded entrance. I opened the door and she ran in as if it was her home. Long story short, she was pregnant at the time, had kittens, three of which I homed, two which I kept, I named Mommy Madam and she is currently sleeping on my bed. I've had her seven years now.
Nice to see this happening in NZ, where they have had some over-the-top anti-cat hysteria in recent years.
Am I the only one weirded out that she just left the door to the house slightly open? I would do that too if I thought I’d get a cat out of it, but most likely my current cats would just escape.
When we are going through some tough times.. or indeed painful recoveries, we are sent Angels to help comfort us.. or, the Sweet fur babies of the world are the ones in need of love.. They bring my Heart to Smiles.. I'm happy that Mom took a photo and that it was sent out for all of us to see and admire.. Sweet it life XO
Cat-lovers know how compassionate seemingly cool and collected cats can be. We have a little black sweetheart of a cat we picked from a shelter. She went around the cat room cleaning and comforting all the other cats. She's really special.
We have 2 cats that own us. They know when we are sick or in pain. Recent back surgery, not without attention from them. Animals are amazing. Would have a 100 if we could. Treat them well they depend us.
Housecats are the most beautiful creatures on earth. You have to look forever to find one less than gorgeous
It is so true that cats choose their people. I ended up with 9 cats that came to my home over a period of time. I had them spayed and neutered and kept them until I had to move into an apartment. I paid to surrender them to the no-kill humane society, as the complex I moved to did not allow pets. I lived across from an elementary school, and I believe most of these cats were drop-offs. My next door neighbor also “acquired” 9 cats also. We both had cat doors for our animals to go out at their leisure. All 18 cats would go in and out of each of our houses. They thought the two properties belonged to them and we were the resident waitstaff, lol. I miss them!
Quite possibly the best way to acquire a cat is to let some stray choose you. That is how I acquired six cats many years ago. I was adopted by a pregnant stray.
The Dr's prescription: 2-3 hours of cuddling with a cat. You have 1,000 refills.
This is the kind of story that makes me happy for the rest of the day!

10 years ago, my dad died of gastric cancer, our cat Fufino always sat on his lap, specially months before when he was back home from the surgery. Fufino couldn't save him. But 4 years ago I had a tumor (inside uterus), when back from hospital he always cuddle over my lap or my neck (I had some suspicious adenopathies there too), until my recovery. On dec., 16th same year he passed away from a rare anemic condition. I know he saved my life back then, he took away my disease and left us. He was abandoned outside my house 14 yrs. before when he was so tiny and sick, I had to fed him like a baby, and treated as my first son, he was "older brother" to my daughter. He was nice and well behaved, we'll be always missing him, and love forever to Fufino Ernesto.
C'mon, now. Cats don't know that some human "needs a cuddle" or "needs some love". What they do know is, hey, there's something big and warm and not moving. Perfect for me - might get a coupla hours of comfy snoozing out of this! Some time ago, the internet went gaga over a cat that "saved a baby's life" in some freezing corner of Russia. Commenters fell over themselves insisting that the cat, finding an apparently abandoned baby, "knew" that it needed to be saved and so lay down with it intentionally, to keep it warm. Some people even wanted to give it a medal for being so noble. Nonsense - the cat was cold and had the luck to discover a nice warm cushion to lie down on, end of story. We tread on very thin ice when we attribute human intentions to animals, because the other side of such thinking is when we ascribe spite, deliberate meanness, intentional disobedience and so on to animals and punish them for it, sometimes inflicting great harm.
Bit of a sad one, I ended up sharing a neighbour's cat, she probably spent 30% of her time "visiting" . Neighbour was fine with it as they worked long hours. It was awful when she died at my house following a seizure and we had to tell him - his wife had only died a couple of weeks previously. He asked us to bury her in our garden as he couldnt face the task himself. RIP Misty.
