Man Left In Tears After Discovering The Note Tucked Behind Abandoned Dog’s Collar

A man found himself in tears after discovering that a dog who was running down the road had a heartbreaking note attached to her neck. The emotional note explained how the dog’s owner could no longer care for her.

Lionel Vytialingam, who lives in Ipoh, Malaysia, was coming back from a trip to a local grocery store when he heard car horns going off on the road. After looking over, the man spotted a scared little dog walking anxiously and aimlessly around the road. Lionel instantly jumped in his car and followed the distressed canine to see if she needed help. When he got close to the poor creature and found a note attached to her collar, he couldn’t believe it.

“I acted without thinking yesterday, and I made decisions without deciding…” Lionel wrote on his Facebook.

“As I was getting groceries, I caught sight of a lone [little] dog running aimlessly in the middle of a big road, Jalan Canning Estate in Canning Garden, Ipoh. Thank God it’s the MCO [Malaysia movement control order] and traffic wasn’t the usual. Still, car and bike horns were blaring at this aimless lost creature. I held my breath each time she swerved into them or they into her.”

“I got into my car, followed the little one a bit, then stopped by the roadside. Thank goodness she chose to walk towards me, away from the middle of the road. She had a soggy note folded up and tied around her neck. I tried not to move at all, to maybe gain her trust. She stood away for about 10 mins, watching my every pulse, it seemed, before she finally approached me from the back, sniffed, then walked round to face me. I asked her if I could look at her note.”

The note that was attached to Siggy read: “Hi! My name is Siggy, and I’m the most loving and attentive doggy you’ll ever see! My master is very sorry he had to leave me here with you, but he just can’t look after me anymore. I’m very sorry about that, as I am sure he is too.

Please take me into your home. Please let me be a part of your family. Please love me.

I am a Goldendoodle, I’m 5 years old this year, and I have not been neutered. I am very nice, I haven’t bitten anyone, ever! I am a good guard dog who will sit in front of your door all day, and bark at anyone who comes to your gate. Until you tell me to stop. Or if I know the person very well. I can do some tricks too!

I hope you’ll accept me.

With love, and some woof,
Siggy.”

“She crawled in. I knew she was gonna be ok”

“By this time she had formed the most intense, most pleading eye contact with me from under her matted fringe. I unhooked the note, opened it up and read it right there crouched by the roadside. There was hope, I thought, there’d be some owner’s contact or address, I thought. But it was… sigh, a different sorta note. And I broke down in tears, one hand firmly grasping onto her sticky knots of fur,” Lionel writes in an emotional Facebook post.

Without thinking, the man took Siggy in, who was very scared and anxious around people at first

“I experienced all kinds of emotions, but very little foresight. Probably wasn’t a good sight for all the passing vehicles. But inside of that moment of mental blankness, I decided. She was going to get into my car and off the road. Not because I knew what I was doing, or where to go, but because right then I knew I didn’t need to have all the answers before I took a step forward. And so I brought her home. Fed and bathed her, dried her off, and put her to bed. She’s downstairs now in a cozy bed I made under a couch where she seems most comfortable, and I’m up here in my bed, about to feed her bread and honey and chunks of chewies in my dreams.”

But she got used to the man after a while. “Trust was growing after the hour”

“I don’t know what matters lie ahead to decide, but I know, for now, I have a few more smiles to share when I wake tomorrow morning. The pictures I’ve posted are in sequence. You’ll see the folded note around her neck in the first pic and the full note in the second.”

He washed Siggy with warm water and blow-dried her fur

Lionel then shares: “If I may, I’d just like to remind everyone who’s thinking of having a pet, or who already has pets:

  • do not move to get a pet unless you are ready for a full-on commitment
  • do not move to get a pet unless you can be sure your commitment-related decisions ARE NOT governed by mood swings or other forms of inconsistency.”

Hour after hour, the little dog felt more and more comfortable around the man

“If you have committed to your best ability (you’re certainly a kind soul), but for some reason, you have reached a point where you can’t anymore (it happens; we can’t predict these circumstances), PLEASE do not do not DO NOT abandon/leave/disown/un-own/’release’/’FREE’ your pets onto the streets. Reach out and ask for help, and speak up if you’re desperate, use the internet if you can, call a friend, maybe.”

After a day passed, she was already comfortable enough to chew the seat of the man’s car

“This little girl found me, and thank God for that. I still shudder to think of others out there just like her, with or without a ‘note.'”

This good girl got her forever home at the man’s brother’s and will move after the quarantine restrictions end

“We’ve found this little girl a HOME! Yesterday’s tears and fears have brought me to squeals of joy today! My brother is taking her in after the MCO. Till then, she’s all mine!” the man writes excitedly.

Circumstances can change, okay, but you NEVER do this! You don't let the dog out into the streets and hope for the best! You can find them a home or take them to a shelter who will then find them a home. If you are worried about having to pay the shelter go in disguise and tie the poor dog to the door shortly before they are due to open! There is NO excuse for this whatsoever. Thank you to this lovely man and his family for taking this beautiful dog in. Happy, happy life little Siggy. ❤❤❤

Well, of course. The dog has an English name, is found with a note written in perfect English by a man called Lionel Keith - in Malaysia. I call BS.

I thought that was odd too, but apparently English is the one of the most-spoken languages in Malaysia.

Uhm... chewing a car seat is not about being comfortable! Quite the opposite actually. It's anxiety. It's bad and shouldn't be celebrated.

That is not a golden doodle. It's too small and the ears are black at the ends. It's a Yorkipoo.

Irresponsible, especially as the dog was unneutered. Should have taken the poor thing to a shelter.

Yes! Bad enough to just let the poor dog go, but knowing its un-neutered?! That's just total disregard.

Whoever gave her up sounds like they loved her and it wasn’t an easy decision. We shouldn’t judge. Maybe they got severely injured and couldn’t care for her? Maybe they lost their job and couldn’t afford to care for her? At least she has a forever home now. That’s what we should focus on.

She does have a forever home now, which is good. But the owner could have at least brought the dog to a shelter or had someone do it. Or maybe it was an emergency and they couldn’t do it. We don’t know what really happened, so we can’t judge fairly.

I rescued a little dog named Squiggy last November! I think he's a poodle dachshund mix. His people bought a new house and didn't want animals in it so they were going to dump 6 year old Squiggy at the pound. Not on my watch! Little dude has some ear and skin problems, but is just the sweetest, most tolerant creature in existence. I feel bad that his life got uprooted after so much time with his other family, but I am SO glad he found his way to us!

A neighbor kept going on how badly behaved her rescue dogs is. She kept the poor little Yorkshire in the closed kitchen or balcony. Her daughter of 3 was kicking and hitting the dog, he growled at the kid and the mother yelled at the dog. The woman would yell at the all day long. Finally I proposed to adopt him and she refused. I had just lost my beloved Shiz Tzu at the age of 13 and 7 months. The dreadful woman put him up for adoption on the net, I was heart broken. I was the one who walked and cared for him when she asked me to.

Then he shouldn't have got a pet. And if your life changes and you can't look after your pet any more, you should never abandon it on the streets, because it'll have a terrible end in most cases. There's no excuse for abandoning an animal.

Made me sad. At least the former owner left a note. Still, not ok to leave a dog like that.
