Guy Discovers A Trap Door In His Apartment Floor, Finds Something That Wasn’t In The Lease
What quality, horror story plot doesn’t involve a creepy home discovery? Well, this Reddit thread from Irishman Daniel Carley is not the stuff of fiction. The man moved into an old building dating back to the 19th century but was not briefed on the complete layout, which he discovered, was hiding some pretty macabre features.
The tale starts with an innocent enough hatch handle on the floor, “this wasn’t in the lease” he writes. Just like any good scary movie protagonist, he decided to see what was hiding beneath the door. Unveiled were steps leading underground and despite the obvious American Horror Story: Murder House vibes, he went down.
Scroll down below to see what he found!
Ireland native Daniel Carley decided to move into a new apartment in England
He thought he got a pretty good deal
The kitchen/living room has high ceilings: it’s a very old building.
But as he was exploring his new living space
Got all the essentials set up
He found a feature that wasn’t on the lease
The kitchen/living room has high ceilings: it’s a very old building
It really is a mezzanine, it’s more of a bunk bed than a bedroom. Cosy.
Nice functional shower room
Hang on.. What’s this?
Looks like a hatch. This wasn’t in the lease
Opening it…
Oh, a bit of underfloor storeage for some tools and old paint cans. Pretty unexciting. Of course there couldn’t be a secret dungeon complex under my bog-standard studio I rented for small money, that only happens in poorly-written movies
Hang on a second…
This can’t be true, that’s definitely a staircase
We have a dungeon. We have a dungeon. At this point I couldn’t believe my luck, and was completely freaked out since it was so unexpected. I suspected the dungeon stretched beneath the entire building, so I sealed the hatch (with the bathroom door wedged over it) and awaited backup
Got a friend, and proceeded. There is a proper 19th century layout of corridors and hatches beneath
To the right of the corridor, underneath the neighbour’s room
Friend examining the end of the corridor. It stretches further, she said
But wait, what’s up there? Only noticed this when reviewing the photos, could be a hidden space upstairs between apartments, or else an illusion caused be a collapsing ceiling. To be investigated
This is on the left of the corridor. Beautiful vaulted ceiling. Didn’t get a good look though the hatch yet
Random graffiti. People have been here this decade
The basement space is beautiful. Four walls, albeit a bit damp, and a somewhat solid floor. Great headroom down here
Curious shape in the corner. Bed, or crypt, it’ll make a good seat for a potential home cinema, or else for a dungeon party
Furnishings. Sacrificial altar?
There’s a hole in the middle of the room, with very soft dirt. Possibly recently disturbed
The staircase back up to the apartment. The builders have been down here when the place was being renovated a few years ago, but it seems completely uninhabited since. No mention in the lease. This appears to be the only staircase to the dungeon. I’m debating my next move. More exploration needs to be done, but it’s very scary living above it alone
Later his friend came to visit with the ‘appropriate’ attire
Friend brought housewarming gifts
Watch the video below for an eerie guided tour
Other people found the room super creepy and left less than comforting comments

Share on FacebookThis studio and underground access I'm almost certain is based in coventry. Ccfc is coventry city football club. At a guess I'd say the corridors are either shelter out in during ww1/2 (as coventry was heavily bombed in ww2) or there may have been a commercial property like a pub with a cellar or a bakery with cooling cellars there during the coventry blitz which was hit during the bombing but they never bothered to dig out the cellar when they rebuilt the building.
just set up some hps grow lamps, plant your seeds and enjoy hig quality dungeon grown weed :)
If the place turns out OK, for sure I would grow weed down there.

This is extremely old. It's from about 5 years ago or more. It was a converted monastery. This would have been the cellar area but also a place to bury some of the monks. In later years it would have been used as a bunker during the war. 100% not a a dungeon.
"This is **extremely** old. It's from about 5 years ago or more" ROFL ! If 5 years are a lot of time to you, you must be VERY young, lol...
Load More Replies...Hell no! F**k that noise! I'd be out of that place in a heartbeat!
The only scary thing in those pictures is that there is no railing beside the bed. No! Just NO!
Yikes...an old building with a cellar! Who would have thought about that?...except that ALL old buildings have cellars, with brick walls and everything! Wow, awesome..........typical......zzzzzzzz.
Lets be honest here.....if you open a closed door you don't really "discover" anything. It's not like it was hidden.
When I met my husband, he owned a tattoo shop in our downtown area. The building was one huge city block size building with businesses all connected. He lived in the back of the shop where there was an old shower and toilet and concrete(or stone) open space like a studio apartment. It was a very creepy room, sort of like an old jail cell (but larger) Anyway, there was a creepy old "well" in the middle of the room. Had a round concrete disc covering the hole. All I could think of was the movie The Ring. It was so freakin weird! He opened the well to show me what was inside and the hole was so deep and wide, you couldn't see inside. After some research, we found out it was an opening to an old underground speakeasy. lol. If the ladder hadn't broken off a long time ago, we would have gone in there to explore TLDR: Creepy underground places are cool
"Random graffiti. People have been here this decade." What a conclusion! Because graffiti weren't around before 2000. And that's definitely not a dungeon.
It is super creepy yet so fascinating! I would love to just explore that , obviously with someone with me ! XD
Why do you find it creepy? Been watching too many horror movies lately?
Load More Replies...First thing I noticed is the PS3 would have no breathing space between those two shelves...wont have to worry about that if you take a midnight trip to the kill room though I guess....ok thank you
If someone brakes into your apartment whilst your in it, it would be a good place to hide.
the first rule of the fight club, you do not talk about the fight club
Wow...Your apartment has a basement! Yikes!...Like 98% of other apartments. Amazing!
creepy but exciting!! Love the place... :D I hope you didn´t wake up any evil spirits...
I’m scared . The owner is SICK ... JUST LOOK AT THAT BEDROOM. ☠️💀☠️ One small step, and you’re GONE , gone forever. Does then the owner knowing that you’ve fallen from the “ bedroom” come in and slide you off down his dungeon.... That’s what it’s all about. Call 999 OP
What I was thinking : one step half-asleep too far and boing! , RIP...
Load More Replies...I wonder if there is something in Ireland History or the past of the building that would justify this room. You know like a Priest Hole, a kind of bunker to survive bombing (I have to admit I don't know if Ireland was bombed during WW2), a hiding for rebels of any kind, or a technical place for some grocery store/craftman. I would make some reserch on the history of the building. Because, if there is no historical/technical reason... then that's creepy AF and I would contact the Police to have there opinion. But I would be thrilled to investigate something like that ;p
DONT GO DOWN THERE AGAIN because its a dungeon from the 1800s but it can be a world war refugee or solider bunker maybe they used it for or executions or storage the important thing is just to dont go down there because its risky and easy to lost inside there maybe the only case is my friends i maybe would go with them but just with them anyways dont go alone!!!
This maybe can be a dungeon from the 19s or it can be a world war bunker, maybe soldier or refugee bunker but dont risk it to explore you can easily lost inside its scary and i said risky
CCFC = Cambridge City Football Club. How many times does the guy say "pretty"... pretty annoying if you ask me!
