Continuing with our theme of neighbors who annoy the living crud out of us—after this recent topic about a woman who is fed up with being the “FedEx” of her neighbor—we have another am I wrong here? piece where a guy refused to be filmed in his own back yard.
But, plot twist, talking to the filmer didn’t work, so the filmee resorted to striking hella sexy poses and getting loads of internet karma for not only being one creative fella, but also showing how to properly deal with awkward elderly neighbors.

Meet u/sexywaterhose—nice nickname, gotta say—who, together with his sister, has recently inherited his dad’s house. At this point, the house is in desperate need of some upkeep, so OP spends his mornings and evenings getting some work done, which includes watering the grass outside.
All is fine and dandy, but there is one little pesky detail in this situation—the neighbor. The elderly woman next door, despite an introduction and an attempt at being friendly on the part of OP, is being a tad bit awkward. How awkward?

Well, whenever OP came out to fulfill his grassy obligations, the elderly woman would whip out her phone and start filming. And this happened every single day. Why? To make sure he wasn’t up to no good. Which is fair enough, except not really, why would you film anyone doing gardening, let alone so awkwardly?
After some time of going through the same thing over and over again, OP decided enough was enough and you gotta fight fire with fire… well, more like bizarre with sexy.
As the neighbor made it a habit to just go up to him and film everything, he decided to spice it up with some targeted posing

So, one morning, he’s out watering the grass, sure enough, the neighbor steps outside and starts doing her filming thing. OP, without hesitation, sticks out his butt, puts his hand on his hip, and starts staring at her, all sexy-like.
And sure enough, it worked—the woman was simply dumbfounded with disbelief as to what was happening. But the show’s not yet over folks, OP knocks it up a notch and starts pouring water onto himself with the running water hose, seductively touching his neck in the process and looking straight at her.
In particular, it was sexy posing, with all the hands on hips, butt extended outward and everything—simply glorious

“Was it stupid? Yes,” explained OP, but you know what? IT WORKED. The neighbor immediately put away her phone, cussing him out and calling him a perv.
OP later had a talk with his sister, who lowkey defended the old lady, saying she just probably has nothing better to do and that’s it, so “sexually harassing” her was a bit out of line. But the lad was of a different opinion, so he went to the Am I The A-Hole community on Reddit to figure out what’s what.
And folks online loved it, also pointing out that there is nothing jerky that he’s doing here—just fighting awkward with sexy

While everyone ruled the guy not the bad guy, folks were actually more interested in seeing these videos the elderly neighbor took. But all jokes aside, people did suggest finding out recording laws and how they work, because this smells like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Others suggested calling her a pervert back, especially with the whole sexy vibe in the background—giving her a taste of her own medicine? And yet others started speculating why this could be a thing in the first place, wondering whether OP is of a different race or if she’s just an overly protective elderly woman?

If the property belongs to him and his sister now, who on earth is the neighbour filming him for and who would she show it to if he broke any rules? Whose rules are they? He should stop what he's doing and start filming her filming him ...

If it doesn't, the laws get fuzzier, but your displays are well within the bounds of the law. Work it, sexywaterhose! There's no fuzziness about it. The Supreme Court has passed several decisions on the matter. I can film anything I can see from public property or from private property with permission to be there. If I can see and film your wife from the sidewalk through the window in the shower, she could be charged with exposure. I would be guilty of nothing but creepiness. Any type of voyeurism charge would fail since you can't expect privacy in front of an open window. Otherwise, any perv could install a shed with a picture window on their front lawn and dance naked for the neighborhood kids. As you said, a privacy fence would be required for any expectation of privacy, although that can be defeated by a selfie stick or a security camera mounted up high.

There's laws in my state that no one can have a camera on any points of entry when it's not their house. They also can't film your yard or have cameras point to it if you have minor children. If you have a fence they cannot film or point a camera in your yard. No one can film your mailbox either. I'm sure there are laws like this but n every state

Where is this? In my country it's 100% very, extremely illegal to film someone like that. You can't even have security cameras if part of the footage is on the neighbours or on public property. This sounds like a symptom of dementia. Neighbor may not know that their behavior is unacceptable. Does she have family? They may not know that she is behaving oddly. Sounds like she needs to be evaluated for Alzheimer's and dementia and/or a mental health condition like Bi-Polar Disorder. This level of paranoia is not normal, and her resistance to changing her behavior speaks volumes.

Maybe she (neighbor) has dementia....sometimes when people are confused that way they think everyone is doing something they shouldn't be, and keeping an eye on others and what they are doing becomes....an obsession.....I think the sexy posing was a great idea to get her to stop, since trying to be friendly wasn't working.

If she lives alone it's possible she is undiagnosed. I know it feels creepy, but it might be worthwhile to check out her situation and/or let someone know about this. Call the local senior center to find out what community resources might be available to help her.
Lol the guy seems very laid back and doesn't want to start any issues obviously, but if it starts getting ridiculous I would stand right in front of her and film her back. Or at least let her know you don't feel comfortable being recorded every time you're doing yard work. You obviously aren't doing anything wrong and she sees that you aren't doing anything wrong so she needs to stop now. If it doesn't, she should expect a cease and desist order or to be recorded the exact same way. Just take out your phone and start recording her. If she doesn't like it, then ask her why she thinks you would, and maybe she'll finally understand how you feel.
