Guy Tells A Joke, Ends Up Sending His Crush To Hospital And Almost Losing His Job

Ah, romance is such a sweet word, especially at the times when every other person claims that love is dead. Most of us have been through it… the shy glances when your crush walks past, the way your heart lights up when you see their smile, and the sweet dreams of one day finding the courage to confess your feelings. Of course, it would be optimal to do that before your crush ends up in hospital. Because of you. Well, one Reddit user ran out of luck when he decided to tell a joke to a girl he liked. What at first seemed like her laughing at the quip a little too long soon turned into a nightmare as the woman collapsed to the floor, struggling for air. And then, to make the matters worse, the manager walked in! What’s the saying? “When it rains, it pours”? Seems fitting! Scroll down to read the full story below and tell us what you think in the comments!

Update: Apparently the guy asked the girl out and now they are dating! (Facebook cover image: Armistead Booker)

One man recently shared how he told a joke to a girl he liked and she laughed at it

However, it quickly went wrong after the girl had to be hospitalized

Everyone saying you shouldn't joke too much with asthmatics, or that they don't laugh often or hard: you're all on drugs. Not everyone has the same asthma triggers. Laughing is not one of mine.

True. There are many reasons why people have asthma and the most common is just being allergic to something (like dust, mold or pollen) so badly that it makes breathing difficult. That does not prevent making jokes because that laughing is not the trigger that makes breathing difficult.

As an asthmatic, I would like to offer a word of advice: Let co-workers and friends know about your asthma, and where to locate (and how to use) your inhaler. This attack must have been terrifying for her. She might not have survived. :-(

I agree - I let my coworkers know about my asthma just in case. I don't usually have problems but that way they know what's happening if I have an asthma issue.

My Ex husband was not allowed to watch Tommy Cooper - too dangerous. I always always carried an inhaler in my bag - even when he forgot one.

"Almost lost his job?" How? Even if she died, did he break any law? Seems a bit exaggerated to me.

I do, but I didn't find it funny. Maybe it was the combination of the punchline and the action, along with "you had to be there", but picturing it in my head doesn't make me laugh, either. All I keep seeing is some dude dabbing, and this poor girl collapsing on the floor, struggling to breathe.

Why didn't she warn him about her asthma? You can start to feel an attack coming on a few moments before it actually starts, so why didn't she get her inhaler? Or at least say 'inhaler' so he has some clue of what to do? And Clay, you're a pig. What are you going to do if you see an unresponsive woman on the street and nobody is around? Are you going to just leave her?

It is seriously scary being with someone having a severe asthma attack - not funny at all. My ex husband was very asthmatic. A friend and workmate died of an asthma attack - she was 8 months pregnant - they didnt have a phone in the house - both died in the time it took the husband to find a call box and an ambulance to arrive

That is because most of the people who have asthma have does not get asthma attacks so bad that they have to go to the hospital. When I was child I had asthma because I was allergic to some pollen. So in spring and summer I had to use an inhaler couple of times every day and other way I was living completely normal life.

And if you have asthma that bad, get a medical id bracelet or necklace. It can help people get to the root of why you are having problems even if you can't speak.

I don't have athsma, but one time I was drinking lemonade and my friend said a joke, and I laughed really hard. The thing is, I had a drink of lemonade in my mouth and tried to swallow it while laughing, but I choked. I felt like I was going to puke while I was choking, so I just stood in the corner if the room we were in coughing while he was just looking at me, trying to figure out what to do. I stopped choking/coughing after about 2 minutes, though. I still make fun of him.
