This House Was Built Out Of 12 Shipping Containers And Both The Interior And Exterior Look Stunning

For each person, the definition of a dream house is different. While some are more fond of traditional dwellings, others are looking for new and innovative ways to build their perfect home. While building a house out of shipping containers is not exactly new, some people still manage to surprise us with their skills and ability to transform ugly metal boxes into cozy homes.

Recently, one such transformation received a lot of attention on Facebook. In one of the groups where people are sharing houses made out of containers, one man shared the before and after photos of the stunning project he did. Built among the green scenery in the Waikato region, New Zealand, the beautiful house is already on sale. Scroll down below to find out more!

“Elevated with grandeur, on top of the north facing site of 6,221 square metres, the main home incorporates twelve shipping containers as part of its detailed construction and really does have an attractive commanding presence,” the house listing on Trade Me reads.

The main house (the residence also includes a small cottage and a garage) was built using 12 shipping containers. For those interested in how much the project could cost, Refresh Renovations writes that a shipping container alone could set you back somewhere from $3,000 to $10,000.

“Designed with an industrial scale and theme, the open plan living areas feature a high atrium that houses a significant and prominent staircase interlinking the second-storied living spaces. Natural light is prevalent throughout the dwelling that features individual living zones, up to six bedrooms, three toilets, three bathrooms, and polished concrete floors to complete the industrial theme,” the description of the house reads.

“Clever design elements through this space provide a view corridor all the way through the ground floor to the neighbouring lake area contributing to the spatial grandeur. Intricate bespoke lighting, quality bathroom tiling and a wood burning fire are just a small fraction of the form and content on offer that only can be appreciated by viewing.”

The listing reads that there are up to 6 bedrooms in the house

Aunt Messy, brand NEW UNUSED shipping containers, which as an architect I would only recommend to my clients, are $8,000.00 US totalling $96,00. US. You couldn't have a new home in the US with basement, main level, floor above it and roof for that price. Shipping containers are very easy to insulate to the highest ratings and also the "scrap" metal that's cut away to make entryways into other rooms can be used in many other ways. Container homes are perfect for solar panel placement or you can easily put in lovely gardens. Again lowering your cost for green energy and insulation. Main cost - window glass. With electrical cables, plumbing also at minimum cost, while smooth polished concrete, underheated floors are less than in typical house. The swimming pool is about 1/5 the cost of a standard pool. The H/VAC is easily accomplished with 90 % of the duct work in the ceiling except as I previously mentioned is underneath the Heated, concrete or tiled floor. House shown apx. $368,000.

I am so tired of people acting like spending over a quarter of a million dollars or more on a house is obtainable for the average person and that a container home is some how the solution to your housing problem. The amount of cash you have to have to get this going is insane. This is not the great savior of the environment or the housing market. This is just more house porn marketed to those who will never own homes.

There is a huge surplus of shipping containers since the US now exports far less than it gets into ports. I wish they'd use them for residences for those in need. They could be made comfortable at a very low cost.
