The Internet Encourages This Guy To Ask Out His Gym Bro On A Date And When He Does, He Says ‘Yes’
For some reason, spring is often associated with love even though St. Valentine’s day is celebrated in February. Probably because the sun and warmth lifts our spirits up and inspires people for a more romantic mood.
Reddit user StupidDummy is a perfect example of that because a couple of weeks ago, he finally mustered up the courage to ask his gym buddy he’d had a crush on for several months out when he finally admitted to himself that after dating women all his life, he fancied men as well.

The heart wants what it wants and this guy wasn’t expecting to fall in love with his gym bro

The story was posted on the subreddit called Off My Chest, which is a “mutually supportive community where deeply emotional things you can’t tell people you know can be told. Whether it’s long-standing baggage, happy thoughts, or recent trauma, posting it here may provide some relief.”
2.7 million people are listening to each other and are providing support and encouragement to those who feel lost and don’t feel comfortable opening up to people they know in real life.
The Original Poster (OP) searched for some consolation and wanted to get his feelings off his chest. He is a 22-year-old guy who studies history and goes to the gym, where a few months ago, he noticed a person working out and he felt a nervousness that threw him off.
He ignored the weird feeling and just came up to that guy, who turned out to be a very nice person, so the two men became gym bros.
He started feeling nervous around a guy in the gym so he approached him and they became buddies

StupidDummy was in a relationship with a woman at the time, but two weeks after forming a friendship with his gym bro, she broke up with him. As the two guys got along well, the OP opened up about his heartbreak and the conversation led to the gym bro mentioning that he was gay.
The conversation with him led the OP to start to believe that the nervousness he felt being around his gym bro was the exact same thing he experienced when he would see a pretty girl. It became more evident as the months passed by and he actually imagined himself being with his gym bro in a romantic relationship.
You may think that this realization came quite suddenly, but the Redditor went into more detail about his feelings in the comments: “Well, it’s not entirely that I’ve just uncovered it… more or less forced to accept it. For a while there I just didn’t really know, kinda thought it was normal for straight guys to find men attractive. But for a while I’ve just been trying desperately to ignore it until I met him.”
Also, looking back, he realized that he’d definitely had crushes on other men previously, but didn’t recognize them as such, but after meeting his gym bro, everything fell into place and the attraction was too strong to ignore.
But after a while, the OP realized he wanted more than just a friendship

So the Reddit post acts like a confession of the OP being bisexual and the story of how he found out. At this point, he hadn’t asked the gym bro out, nor told him about his discovery, but he really wanted to.
People who read the story found it to be very wholesome and encouraged the OP to just go for it. And it seems that it worked as in the first update of the story, he expressed his determination to approach his gym bro and tell him how he felt.
The second update was very emotional as the OP was feeling ecstatic because he found out his crush actually liked him back and he agreed to go on a date. StupidDummy felt grateful for all the internet strangers who gave him strength to do this.
In the comments, the OP couldn’t hide how happy he was as he said, “I mean, he’s just like a really sweet guy. We hugged afterwards and it was just like… almost like you’ve been cold your whole life and then somebody finally throws a warm blanket over your shoulders. He’s like, really comforting and funny.”
It was unusual as the OP had believed that he was straight all his life, but started to come to terms with the fact he was actually bi

StupidDummy created a Twitter account to keep people updated on his love and has over 1.2k people waiting. However, it seems that he hasn’t posted anything about his gym-bro-turned-lover yet as he was irritated by the amount of hateful comments he received.
For a while, he left Twitter, but don’t give up hope yet, because the OP officially announced his return and we might learn what he has been up to since posting the last update.
With the encouragement of people online, he finally asked the gym bro out and received a positive answer

It's a hard journey discovering your sexuality or gender, but you go OP! It is simply heartwarming to see the responses, and the courage it takes to ask someone out, let alone someone that you so unexpectedly developed a crush on. CONGRATULATIONS!
It's crazy how much...easier? Open minded? Not taboo? Anyway. When I was 22 it was the 90's & I was out there fighting for all of my friends to just be seen. This guy within months of even realizing he's into men & he came out to his crush. Christ, I know a few men in their 50's who need to come to terms with it & come out. This makes me really happy. At least one thing is going right in this world.
This is sooo f*****g wholesome and cute! So happy for these guys, they sound like they make an adorable couple!
Im old AF and even though I've made out with guys previously (and made excuses as to why) and have always found certain guys attractive (good looking people are attractive regardless, I told myself), I literally figured out a few months ago that I may not be entirely straight. I'm so happy OP gets to be fully themselves and that their crush was reciprocated!
It can be really hard to break out of the box (or closet) society forces you into. Good for you for having the courage to break out!

I have been in "gay chat rooms" where guys would come in with things like this, I would tell them things on how to talk and just give them advice, its cute when they don't know what's going on, and it's pure where there just.... not gay they just.... really love that one person of the same gender, nothing else or anything, just that one person~ I have come across "straight guys" like that, they will have a bf and everything but, they don't like anything else, but their bf
Fabulous story! The first hug I got from my husband was just as the OP posts about his first hug with his crush. 30+ years later the hugs are just more more more wonderful.
Omg my heart. This is so cute. I want this SO BAD. IT'S ADORABLE. And now I feel alone. Sorry for my short sentences I'm silently flipping out.
