Many of us grew up with Disney cartoons like DuckTales, Aladdin, Toy Story, and heaps more! So, whenever there’s something new in the works at Disney, it’s always an exciting blast from the past!
Back in May of 2017, ABC (in collaboration with Disney) announced “The Little Mermaid Live!”, a live adaptation of the 1989 musical film “The Little Mermaid”. The 2-hour special will finally be aired on November 5, 2019 as part of The Wonderful World of Disney brand. ABC has unveiled the first official photographs of the cast in character.

Ursula was originally based on Divine - a drag queen that the animators caught perfectly. She's an over the top, voluptuous, cheerfully evil charactor. Queen Latifah is the only person that I think could capture that live.
Load More Replies...But Queen Latifah is not purple. Why change the characters who i grew up with, i demand a purple Ursula or I will not see this movie.
People do realise that Fabulous was making a joke right? It's a joke about how people can get offended when characters are represented differently from what is expected.
Load More Replies...Is Bored Panda a subsidiary of Disney? There are a lot of promo tie-ins to all things Disney on here.
On this topic... who's excited for Daveed Diggs as Sebastian in The Little Mermaid live-action? Ok so it's rumored... but I WANT IT TO HAPPEN
Hold up... he's Sebastian? What (else) did I miss?
Load More Replies...i thought halle bailey was playing ariel? can someone please explain?
Wait - was that the cast where so much fuss was made about her skin colour??
No, that was the live-action movie....a Black Ariel was cast for that one...
Load More Replies...This is the Broadway. But there will be a live action movie too.
Load More Replies...A young John Stamos would've made the PERFECT Prince Eric! Although he doesn't really look like he's aged much anyway.
I was worried when I first heard of the live-action remake in the fear that would be just another "live-action remake". While "Maleficent" was the one that started it off, that version was looking at the background of the fairy tale itself, especially the uncomfortable parts concerning archaic sexual dynamics. Two things concerning the original Disney movie need to be addressed. (cont.)
[2] "Vanessa": While a relationship was established between the Transformed Mermaid and the Prince, he still married the Princess. We do not necessarily need Ursula involved in this as such politics was the norm, where both "Sleeping Beauty" and "Rapunzel" had the titular Disney Princesses as the "other women" kept by the men who eventually lived "happily ever after" with them in the original fairy tales. The difficulty of middle-class (let alone lower-class) women marrying upper-class men is still present with just Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle recently. Besides, having Jodi Benson ("Ariel" AND "Vanessa") as the mother of Eric's betrothed MANIPULATED by Ursula would be interesting.
Load More Replies...Why? We have Moana and Queen Latifah. HOW CAN IT SUCK?
Load More Replies...I thought there was a whole thing about the main charactr being played by a black girl; did they change the actress or was it just much ado abut nothing ? Also, then why is no one complaining about Ursula ?
This isn't for the upcoming movie. This is a live performance on ABC television.
