On his Twitter account, he also revealed that “Animated movies were an enormous part of my childhood. They were my escape. My adventures. My dreams,” and thanked Pixar and Angus MacLane, who is an American film director, for choosing him to be a part of this project. Before Evans, the character of Buzz Lightyear was voiced by actor and comedian Tim Allen.

What is important to take into consideration about this movie was revealed by Evans in his tweet written almost a year ago: “And just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.” The real person who inspired Buzz Lightyear was American astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who, together with astronaut Neil Armstrong, were the first ones to land on the moon in 1969.

Dear fans of old things. New material for a new generation of children is not "ruining your childhood" Those things don't not solely belong to your generation. If you don't like it or don't want to see it, no one is forcing you to see it. Now please shut up and let those excited for something enjoy it.
I agree to some extent but I have to insist that you will never complain about something you like being updated for a younger generation in 30 years. No matter what you think of the quality of the result. Sometimes these feelings about things we liked in our childhood aren’t really that rational.

There's always gonna be old fans complaining when something they like gets updated as if that old stuff they like just goes away. I'm an 80s kid, I've seen plenty of stuff from my childhood get updated for the newer generations, some that I didn't like, but I realize the updated versions aren't aimed at me. That said, I didn't hate Kevin Smith's new He-Man show anywhere near as much as I, being an 80s kid was "supposed" to.
I'm a 60s kid and I agree with you. We all have our favorites and no remake or spinoff will change that. For me, Bugs Bunny will always mean Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes, not the later versions. I've seen every James Bond film ever made and I still think Connery played him best, not because he was the original, but because for me he embodied the James Bond character in Sir Ian Fleming's books. That does not mean that the subsequent Bonds were worse, just different; they put their own spin on the character, from Brosnan's elegance to Craig's ruggedness.
Load More Replies...I CAN EXPLAIN! This movie is not what everyone thinks it is.... as the Disney Wikipedia states, "This is not a story about the Toy Story action figure or the cartoon Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, but the origin of the in-universe astronaut who inspired the cartoon and toys." Tim Allen voices the TOY buzz lightyear, Chris Evans voices the ACTUAL guy!! And I personally think casting Chris Evans was genius.
Honestly, i don't mind. For those who wants the fans who love the original, DON'T argue or force them. Most of them want nostalgia or the feelings of original and they think they might likely afraid of loosing those feelings.
I thought he gave up on the entertainment industry? And yeah haha childhoods have been destroyed for decades.
