This Inflating Bracelet Could Save Your Life

According to the World Health Organisation, 372,000 people drown each year. Kingii wristband claims to be the world’s smallest inflatable and its mission is to reduce that number. The device contains an inflatable nylon balloon that’s kept inside a small pocket next to a carbon dioxide cartridge. Its users can inflate Kingii in less than 1 second by pulling a metal lever which triggers the CO2 cylinder and fills the balloon. The wristband is suitable for swimming, surfing, kayaking, sailing, and fishing. Kingii is up to 78 times smaller than a life jacket and aims to be just as reliable. The device is reusable (used CO2 cartridges can be replaced with new ones), and is available on Amazon for $69.99.

Nice concept, It would be nice if they made a neck preserver, you put it around your neck and when you put it, it opens into a life preserver.
Load More Replies...What a Great Idea! Every person going out boating should have one of them,.....just in case.
So if your unconscious, it won't save your life, as you need to be conscious to ise it.
69 dollars is a little much since it doesn't keep your head ah I've water, sure if you pull the lever before you pass out it could work.
Learn to swim. Practice swimming safely. Pay attention to those you care about when they are swimming. People don't drown like the advertisers are telling us they do. Those drowning don't typically scream for help, manage to push buttons and miraculously come alive once on a beach.
This is very clever because when you go underwater and panic, you can't always tell which way is to the surface. Using this, you get to the surface in no time. After that you can use balloon to float. If you pass out the balloon at least tells other people your location. Yes we have life jackets, but you can't use those when you dive. And I bet that those are clumsy in some other activities too. If I ever start diving in outdoor waters I will get this, just in case.
People suggesting life jackets are better because they keep your head out of the water. Like yes they do and yes they are, but do you want to tell your ten year old they have to wear a life jacket in a swimming pool?
Yes, when my kids couldn't swim and were not at that moment in swim lessons, they wore flotation devices (sewn into their swimsuits).
Load More Replies...but what about lung over expansion if it brought you up too fast? rupture ear drums?
if you're in water THAT deep, you probably should be wearing scuba gear
Load More Replies...What a great idea! If this bracelet also has an affordable price, it'd surely save lives
69 dollars, a little much for a thick balloon and carbon dioxide.
Load More Replies...It seems to be a veryuseful tool. My only concern is that I might be panicing to much when drowning and thus will forget about the bracelet :D other than that - good, smart, easy to use, convenient to wear. More life saving stuff please!
This will never be more reliable than life jackets. If you are knocked out, it won't deploy, and if it does; your hand will be at the water's surface while the rest of you dangles below.
They should fit it with a device that can sense your oxygen saturation, so that if you pass out it would inflate automatically when your oxygen level was too low
This is super cool. Almost drowned last summer. I'm 63 and been swimming forever. Since then I've realized I'm not superman. I'm going to get one for me and my daughter. Cause I know I can't save her. Very good. I'd like to see a belt one.
I like it but it doesn't go far enough. I would like to see something you could put on a child that would self-inflate if they fell in and would keep their head above the water.
can email me the details?i am interested on this. colyn_6@yahoo.co.uk
It is a stupid idea. It should be strapped to the upper chest to keep the person mouth and nose out of the water. In the wrist I just makes it easy to find the body
This would also be good for lifting something heavy in deep water...
I love my life jacket that inflates if I go overboard but this is a great idea as well...
I love my life jacket that inflates if I go overboard...but this is slick too...
I wonder why they make it bright red? I'm sure it's for other people (maybe search and rescue, for example) to see you. But I learned something about sharks. Sharks (such as a great white shark, for example) can see in color, and bright colors (especially on the surface of the water) are attracting to them (that's why you are instructed not to swim or dive in bright colors). They already mistake people for their natural food source when people linger at the surface. I was just thinking that although it undoubtedly could save your life--and I think it's super cool!--I just think that it may save your life in the ocean just to turn around and attract a new problem of sharks. Lol. But definitely great for use in a pool or lake! :) (So maybe make an ocean set of them that isn't bright colored? Or add a GPS tracking thing in the watch, then all of them could be duller colors?)
I think it's a good idea I think it should be used for skiers when they get trapped by an avalanche except it needs to in flate with helium and get a longer string to find the spot wherever the skier may be .
bit expensive.. but also they should make the balloon unfold into some sort of floatie noodle or something to let them hold on and also maybe using other gases that are more lighter ( @ _ @ ; )
I find it hard to visualize the application. It's not a substitute for regular life preserver.
I just re-read the description. It's definitely not a substitute for a life preserver. Those things hold your head out of the water when you're unconscious. This won't.
Load More Replies...This would be in addition to a PFD, or perhaps when you're dockside, and certainly could be lifesaver for NON-swimmers who do something stupid. I'm a boater, a non-swimmer and I do stupid things sometimes, and if there is no one around . . . .
it's perfect idea for my 8 yearsold . Where can I find this bracelet
At least a life preserver keeps your head out of the water. This, not so much.
