Share on FacebookWhat horrible boys. I am so happy the librarian took action. It's hard to believe that kids find this funny to do. At least now they're paying with that on their school records.
To Hans- yes, the mother didn't trust her, but she's not a loser for that! Do you know how many parents EXCUSE their kids for misbehaving and claim "my angel didn't do it, they told me!". But the girl sounds like she's a good child, so that was a mistake on the mom's part. And, I'm sorry, a "Children prank"?? Would you classify the elementary school incident when my [twin] brother was doing an assignment with two boys who wrote "[my brother's name] raped [my name]" on his Powerpoint as a "children prank"? "It was just a joke" is the most frequent excuse for bullying.

Glad that this story has a happy ending, justice was served and the victim was recognised. But yeah, hope she will be more careful from now on. Log out of your personal accounts on public computers as soon as you leave your spot, even if for just 1 single minute. You never know if and what kind of trolls are out there waiting for the chance to make their move. Or set a temporary password for the computer you're using, and remember to delete it when you're done. Locking your computer screen is rule n.1 of information security.
I agree. I remember when I was at school 14 years ago and every time someone forgot to log out from a public computer some other people always trolled their accounts. I also have to admit that once I saw a girl who had said nasty things to me to leave her e-mail inbox open so I just quickly emptied and deleted all her mail as a revenge. That was stupid but at least it was an important lesson for everyone about online safety.

1) LOL that the word C**P was edited out. 2) Glad the boys got into trouble...hopefully the girl learned a lesson too. Don't walk away from things. Sign out of computers. Don't take drinks from people you don't know. I'm not saying it's right, but it's the world we live in.
Forget all that. The lesson learned here is to LOG OFF EVERY TIME and NEVER SAVE PASSWORDS.
Surely the lesson is IT security? Fraping occurs so you learn your lesson. I can't believe there are still 12 yo's that don't know that the monitor is not the same as the whole computer.
I don't think this was bullying though.. just a couple boys seeing an opportunity to prank someone. (Bullying would be targeting a certain kid, I doubt they hunted her project down on purpose, from the story). It's good they were caught, as mom was being a bit harsh on her kid.. gotta believe you raised them right, so gotta believe them when they say they didn't do that! :) (but, also gotta know when they lie, sure)
Bullying doesn’t have to be done with a specific person in mind. After all, they were 3, and not one of them had the self-respect and decency to tell the others not to do that (I was 12, once, and I knew what’s right from wrong). Those cowards spent 15 minutes scribbling things, which confirms their growing intent to harm the person whose paper was displayed in front of them. If they had a sense of logic and dignity, they’d realize how much in trouble the person with the paper would be in, and yet, they still continued to type disrespectful things. What proves that they’re bullies is that they didn’t expect a person to leave her place on the computer, and yet, they immediately saw that as an opportunity for them to write disturbing things. When I saw people leaving their computer growing up, I automatically thought, ‘ oh, I better keep an eye on their computer, so that their document doesn’t get deleted by another person who just got inside the computer lab.’

I work in a middle school. We were using a computer reading program which allowed kids to earn prizes by completing work. A boy figured out how to hack in and steal the entire class’s points onto his account, leaving them with zero. When caught he didn’t care, that is what is troubled me. No remorse.
i was bullied at school and library was my only safe haven - quiet and plenty of books
When I was in school, we didn't have technology like this. It was good old fashioned pen vs. paper. I think in several ways, kids might have it a little rougher than we did. And in a lot of ways, they have it easier too--- no more having to skim through those tiny card catalog boxes at the library. You know the ones? Tiny cards with each books Dewy Decimal location printed on them. You had to be a P.I. to track down the books you wanted, LOL! And when you got to the shelves, the book you needed was GONE!! LOL!
It is a sad state of things that people get praised for just doing their job (if she's a librarian, she is responsible for the library computer lab). School staff is there to help the students. On the other hand, it really pays to teach kids basic computer security to avoid such situations altogether. Having something written in a school paper is a crude joke. Having your money stolen from an account is something completely different.
Lesson number two : write your papers on actual paper. With a pencil. Un-hackable !
or you could teach kids to always lock the computer when walking away from it
NEVER mess with a Librarian! Another lesson: Make sure you are REALLY logged out of a computer. Select "Shut down" or "Restart" when you are through so twerps like those three juvenile delinquents can't wreck your reputation.
Those little boogers! So glad they got busted haha bet they never thought they'd get caught!
Those boys are absolutely horrible!! She was lucky that that librarian didn't just dismiss her story, I know the Ines at my school would have.
Awesome story but I'm more concerned with the mother. What kind of stupid parent thinks their kid would purposely write something profane and then open it up to show you so the two of you can work on it together? The mother should have known something was up. Something's not right in that mother-daughter relationship if you ask me.
i once cut off the bottom of my trousers and took them in to a library. that was a turn up for the books.
Thank you for believing the student! You are proof that we will always need people with "book smarts" in our lives.
I bet joke is on them since they are known. And it's not a prank- it's pathetic. And how would they enjoy the reactions if they never seen them? Also are you 5 yo?
