Bride’s Dad Refuses To Walk Her Down The Aisle At Her Same-Sex Wedding, So Her Boss Walks Her Instead

When Jennifer, a Taiwanese HSBC employee, decided to marry her girlfriend, her homophobic parents refused to attend the wedding and cut off contact with her. Though she feared disapproval at work, her boss responded kindly – by walking her down the aisle instead of her father.

Jennifer and her partner, Sam, have been together for 11 years. The couple has faced countless obstacles living in a conservative society, and since same-sex marriage is still not recognised in Taiwan, they’re not even able to legally register their union. Thankfully, Jennifer’s colleagues rallied around her with support, including CEO John Li, whose arm she held in place of her absent father as the brides approached the alter.

“We cried because we never thought we would make it this far,” Jennifer shares in a video produced by HSBC. Indeed, the faces of both brides can be seen streaked with tears, but also marked by the immense pride of a love triumphant against the odds.

Jennifer’s homophobic parents rejected their relationship, and refused to attend the wedding

John Li, CEO of HSBC Taiwan, agreed to walk Jennifer down the aisle instead of her absent father

Though she feared disapproval at work, Jennifer’s colleagues supported and accepted her completely

Same-sex marriage is not legally recognised in Taiwan, but the wedding was symbolic for Jennifer and Sam

“We cried because we never thought we would make it this far,” said Jennifer on the day’s significance

Baroto... just google and you'll find countless examples of naturally occurring homosexuality in animals. You destroyed your own argument with your very first sentence. Also, I would love to see your face when you find out that some animals are naturally hermaphrodite - clownfish for example, can change sex. BOOM.

Great for them, but unfortunately the internet has made me very skeptical nowadays. Whenever I see a story like this I just can't help but think it has to have been done much more for the publicity than for the kindness.

If there are no voices of support, the only voices heard are those of dissent. If it were done in secret, there would be less chance of people in such countries realising that there is nothing wrong or strange in this. So the more publicity the better. The more people see of this, the more everyday it becomes, and at that point it simply an ordinary, acceptable part of society.

It takes courage to stand up for what you believe in especially with family members. Sad that her parents didn't attend and have shut out their own daughter. They are loosing a lot. Different cultures have a harder time accepting people who live homosexually. I hope they eventually realize their loss and accept them both into their lives.

trust me, occidental culture has a way harder time accepting homosexuality than asiatic (or at least japanese). look at all the yaoi, the yuri. Even Sailor moon had a homosexual couple in it. In my country, I've never seen anything similar. Homosexuality is considered out of place, maybe artistic, gross, weird, hipster but certainly not common. I live in France.

It is so sad that people can't see that love is just love. There is no gender or race or age just love. My fiance is 5 years younger than me and I was afraid to go out with him at first. But screw critics I love him and he loves me. Everyone should mind their own business and allow others to be happy.

Do you see homosexual animals? Yes. Do you see animals crowding around teasing them for being in love with another animal who is the same gender as them? I'm going to assume not. If you have, please send me a picture or a video to back up your claim that you've seen animals being homophobic bastards.

One cannot with any honesty overlook the biological differences of men and women. It is not a social construct, but a natural law. If her parents do not except their daughter's unnatural choice, it is hardly fair to use the PC term "homophobic" against them. They has a greater understanding of truth than their daughter.

That logic is so convoluted it's painful. Biological differences? Fair enough; no one has ever denied that men and women are different. But to call it a natural 'law' or 'greater truth' where only opposite genders can pair-up is a little far-fetched since the animal kingdom is full of homosexual activities. Secondly, I don't think anyone thinks that biological sexes are social constructs so I'm going to assume you meant marriage which IS a social construct. I'm fairly certain that there is no other species besides mankind that issues and uses marriage licenses so please don't apply 'natural laws' here. Third, by definition, if you dislike homosexuals, you ARE homophobic. It's like saying it is 'hardly fair' to call apples apples or pears pears. The word means what it means no matter what your ideology is.

There's nothing brave or loving about this story. Good for her father for refusing to walk down the aisle with his daughter. I would do the same thing. It's not loving for a father to encourage his daughter to live in such a sinful lifestyle. For those of you supporting this abomination ... I think most of your grandparents would be ashamed of you if they knew your views on homosexuality. This generation is in for a serious rude awakening if it doesn't repent of this evil.

Why judge those who judge? Anyone who has a hard time accepting same-sex marriage is immediately homophobic and is cast out of society now?
