Leonardo DiCaprio Spends 5 Hours Getting Wounded For A Scene In The Revenant
Leonardo DiCaprio, pictured, is barely recognizable beneath the layers of makeup required for his latest film, The Revenant. DiCaprio plays Hugo Glass, the real-life leader of a fur-trading expedition who ends up the victim of a savage attack.
Makeup artist Duncan Jarman, also pictured, spent five hours patiently recreating Glass’s horrific wounds. He also obtained historical information about the wounds that Glass sustained so that the effect looked as true to life as possible. As Glass received wounds to his entire body, a whole day of life-casting with the actor was required, and as you can see from the picture below, the end result is gruesomely realistic.
DiCaprio recently picked up a Best Actor Golden Globe for his portrayal of Hugo Glass, and the film has also received 12 Oscar nominations.

That is true... however, a real fight between man and Grizzly could be even worse in reality. The survival under the circumstances depicted is phenomenal. That is the focus needed to put this movie in perspective. Hats off to make-up!

Load More Replies...In reading a couple of the comments, it is clear that some people may have difficulty in overcoming their biases toward violent activity, which in this case is no more than realism. And it is also clear that some do not have the patience to wait out what would have been an eternity to Glass in reality. The story as presented makes this point very clearly by overlooking very few details of realism.
I'm too scared to watch this one! I watched 'Grizzly' when I was a kid, and I had nightmares for months afterward!
Although there is some gore, the survival depicted is well worth the viewing. If you are no longer a kid, grin and bear it... no pun intended. If you are a guy, grow a pair... if not, go with one who has them.
Load More Replies...Yes it is brutal but face to face with a grizzly bear and her cubs, you`re done man... I honestly don`t know how Hugo Glass survived this ...it`s unimaginable and surreal.
Long overdue, Leo is one of the best artists of this generation , he has never made a mediocre movie and all his performances are Oscar worthy. Besides being a remarkable human being , what an acceptance speech.!!!
Great movie. I admire Leonardo for always choosing interesting characters to play. Would be nice to see him finally win an Oscar.
The storyline is riveting, and Leo acquits himself with realism and believability. The make-up is outstanding and the survival techniques employed are true food for thought. An excellent movie well worthy of its accolades to date.
Nope, fantastic movie. Maybe you shouldn't be looking for only one characteristic in a movie, but instead be open minded to the vast ideology that a great movie can be of any genre, and does not require tons of explosions or futuristic technology to be deemed great.
