Breathtaking Aerial Photos Of A Lavender Field In Southern France By Samir Belhamra (12 Pics)

Samir Belhamra is a self-taught photographer and graphic designer who recently visited Valensole, Southern France, to take pictures of the beautiful blooming lavender fields, and his stunning pictures will take your breath away.

The lavenders only bloom once a year – typically from late June to early August. Samir told Bored Panda that for him, the lavender fields are not only one of the most beautiful places in France but also in the whole world.

Photographer Samir Belhamra visited the blooming lavender fields in Southern France and took breathtaking photos

The photographer had recently purchased a drone and wanted to take this opportunity to shoot the fields from the bird’s eye view. Needless to say, the aerial photos turned out amazing – you can almost smell the purple sea of French lavender!

Samir has only been interested in drone photography for a little over two years but has already collaborated with many well-known brands and had his photos featured in numerous art pages.

To edit his beautiful photos, Samir uses Lightroom for light retouching and Photoshop to achieve the mood he really wants.

Since we’ve seen many examples of tourists destroying nature just to get a nice picture, Samir wanted to add that he was 100% respectful of the farmer and his lavender field while taking the drone photos and believes all photographers should care about and respect nature.

The most common species of lavender grown around the world is the English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). It is cultivated for its high-quality lavender oil.

Lavender oil is typically used as a perfume or for aromatherapy. It may also be used in massage therapy to induce relaxation through skin contact.

I don't think "aerial" means what he thinks it means. Most of those pics weren't. A drone camera 3 feet off the ground isn't "aerial".

Born in Manosque, 20 mins away, I lived in Valensole in 2006-2007. Yes, lavender is beautiful, even unedited, but it's also a curse for the locals. It brings too much money in, both from the exploitation and from tourism. Life can be a nightmare from April to October, traffic, rogue parking, jaywalking, noise, but especially, people driving 10mph to rubberneck while hundreds of us were just trying to commute. Also, stopping your car to take pictures in the inner curve of a narrow road without any safe room before the ditch, great idea. Lavender is usually harvested around 15th of July (depending on the weather), and is then distilled in outdoor facilities (a dozen around the town). The process takes a few weeks and is messy, trucks and tractors back and forth, and the fumes are released "as is" in a commonly 35C/95F degrees summertime. The town stinks of pungeant raw fragrance and everything gets sticky from the dense essential oils in the air (especially screens and... lungs).

Lavender fields are gorgeous and i love the plant itself. I just recently started making my own oil as I found this article on the health benefits of lavender https://driedlavender.net/4-ways-lavender-can-be-used-for-healing-purposes/, Has anyone else here tried it?

Yes, it's all Photoshop, but if you take it for what it is, highly retouched photo/art, it's actually good. He took some good photos from the ground and then went crazy, still.good photos, I think. The one with the circling airplane is very nice. Good job all in all. Just my humble opinion.

If i photoshopped any old picture to within an inch of its life, I'm pretty certain that it would look breathtaking too.

they are beautiful, like an abstract paint, like a paint from surreal (how else can be explained the starts above, and the bright colored lavender fields?)
