This Woman’s Snapchats Of Last Day With Dying Dog Will Make You Cry

“Dogs are too amazing to let go, but sometimes it happens, and they will forgive you.” That’s the message of this heartbreakingly sad story recently uploaded to Imgur by a woman who bid a final farewell to her dying family pet in an emotional series of Snapchat photos.

Her dog Hannah had been having seizures that had been getting progressively worse over the last couple of months of her life. The seizures were exacerbated by the medication prescribed in a vet clinic for her kidneys, elbows, and hips, but without the medication, Hannah could barely walk, and several times she’d fallen down the stairs. Because of this her owner decided that saying goodbye is the most humane thing to do and dog euthanasia was in line, but only after treating her to one last day full of love. If you don’t already have a box of tissues nearby, then we suggest that you go and get one, because the loss of a dog is very emotional…

I'm sorry but I don't understand... Why do you put down dogs even when even when they are still active. We treat our dogs like family so why not do everything to keep them alive? Like when your grandparents are old, sick and frail but they are still alive and having a good life with family, you don't put them down right? You do everything to keep them alive and happy. Have you considered that the dog wants to stay alive and be with you longer. I'm sorry but I undestand that we have different sets of values but that's just me and I respect your decision because that's your dog. My condolences.

A loving owner is best placed to know when their pet is in constant pain and no longer getting any pleasure out of life. Deciding when the time has come to end their suffering is one of the main responsibilities of owning a pet. You shouldn't keep a sick and miserable animal alive just because it makes you feel better about yourself. Unless you know the pet in question and what its quality of life is like, it isn't your place to judge another family's painful decision.

I loathe these sorts of stories and I wish Bored Panda and other websites would stop publishing them. These are the lowest form of schamltz known to mankind. Losing a pet is a traumatic event for many of us and finding stories like this showing up on our newsfeeds is like rubbing salt in the wound. And who in their right mind would spend their last day with their dog taking snapchats? Some people just can't resist sinking to the lowest possible denominator in their desire to gain attention for themselves.

same here... and think about the people who received those snapchats all day long. I think 1 or 2 pictures would've been enough to make sure everyone know she's sad

I have done the last ride with my dog to the vets. I don't want to remember that... I want to remember the days when she was happy and healthy. I have those pictures. I feel sorry for this family. I feel sorry for all the people who lose pets :( It's totally heartbreaking.

When it was time to let our old girl go a few years ago we asked the vet to come over. She had lost use of both her limbs on one side. She was tired and in pain. We scheduled the vet visit for Monday and doted on her that weekend, gave her all kinds of fast food that we'd normally not let her eat. Saying goodbye was hard, but I'm glad she didn't have to ride the car to the vet on her last day. She hated the car and the vet - it would have given her so much stress. :(

Fast food for a dog? Nailpolish for a dog? Aroma therapy for a dog? Clothings for a dog? Honestly, the owners made the last day better for themselves, not the dog.

I'm not buying this at all. I can see the dog has some age on him/her, but the dog is still playing, able to be groomed...and have nail polish put on? There are people out there who will do anything for attention, including putting their dog down and documenting it for all to see. This is nothing but an attempt to get attention. I feel sorry for this dog or any animal this woman has now or in the future. She took her dog to PetSmart for grooming before she had him put down for chrissakes! What the hell is wrong with her????

just because she looks ok doesn't mean she is. She probably had been given some sort pain killer to make her last day the best it could be.

I know, how hard is to lost member of family, even if it is pet. I really like the idea of making the best last day, if it is neccessary to make this horrible decision. So I really don´t mean this as negative, as most of you probably will read.. but.. are you sure that dog has some plesure in polishing its toes or smelling good?

I saw this a week ago and it has been bothering me ever since in the back on my mind. Finally today i went to see the other people's comments (I usually do not read them) just to confirm that I was not the only one to think there was something very wrong with this whole thing. The dog looks old but she is playful, can sit, eat, etc. And what's this about the meds not working. I am all about not letting your pet suffer, they are the last that deserve that. I would most definitely not let my dog suffer in his old age no matter how much I love him, but this dog looks fine. That picture where the dog plays with other dogs! And the owner is taking her to be put to sleep???? I hope somebody called the humane society or the police on the owner. I would if I only knew her name and address.

i don't want to support this kind of treatment to your pets. You are doing this just because there is an option to do so, let them die when the right time has come. I don't want to sound cynical but while scrolling down the pics of the ' last day' the dog seemed to be pretty active and playful, so clearly just because stairs are hard to climb or pills are harder to digest you do not put your dog to sleep forever.

I believe in euthanasia as a last resort. When the pet is unconscious, can never be cured, and cannot even walk or eat. This dog is playing and active. I would have waited for some more time....till the agony for the dog was worse, or if death was the better option to life. I guess, that is me. Just voicing my own opinion, that too because this is on a public forum. These days, everyone is happy to tear at another person with rude remarks. So, just being careful.

So basically let the dog suffer a bit more before putting it down... you're not making much sense to be honest.

I won't do this with my pet. How do you know if your friend wanna die or not even he/she hurts. If, she/he hurts but she wanna be with you and live so you're a devil. Let them live. I think the moment Pets hurt and starve themself is the moment they wanna die.

I don't get it. The things she does for her old lady comfort her, not the dog. Painted nails? A beauty mark? A cape to wear? I'm sorry but that's for sure not the things a old dog wants to do when she's gooing to die soon. We treat dogs like humans but we shouldn't forget that they are still animals with other needs than humans. A dog doesn't care for beauty and good smell. He cares for his people and his freedom and of course for a good meal

If it's not your dog, and you don't know the situation, keep your mouth shut. July fourth of this year I had to let my buddy Roland, a 15 year old flatcoat retriever, leave me. He had cancer for nearly a year, and we knew it was terminal. Right up until that last day he looked fine. He had a tumor in his neck rupture, that was cutting off his airway. But until that last day, he walked, ran, and played pretty much like he always did. So again, if it's not your dog, you have no business criticizing this woman.

I am sorry for this family's pain-loss... But this brings me to reflect on how certain humans relate to their family pet an to me it is a sad state of affair... A family pet is a very private thing as well as your relation with your family or friends. As if, would your parent would be dying you would post pictures of your last moments with your loved one when his kidneys or liver starts to shut down... Far from me to be a troll but I come from a time where cats, dogs and other mammals were utilitarian. Where it was considered obscene to have a big dog in the city and the suburbs because the environment was crippling to it's well being. When a dog was too sick, we would bring him to the vet and give him a last goodbye. After we would bring him home, bury him under his favorite tree and dig a spot for his remains, a short prayer and the next day contact some neighbor whose b***h recently had newborn pups and let the kids chose a replacement to their last mutt. Sorry for your loss.

Today in the morning only i lost my buddy, she was 15 years old and was diagnosed with Chronic kidney failure. Today she's in paradise and happy that i held her close as she had that final heart attack and gasped her last breath. Didnt opt for Euthanasia as the Vet recommended to let her pass away naturally but never the less we were with her till the end cause i know she would have done the same with me.

Ruth it is quality of life. One day there ok, then next day they can't stand or walk and have trouble holding their bowels and they may start vomiting. Need I go on. As a prior owner of multiple dogs we know when we must do what is on the best interest of our beloved pets. In addition, the input from the vey forces our hand and it makes sense.

I'm feeling so sad. 43 years old and crying like a baby. I've lost couple of dogs, my children I can then myself and it's hard. Someone post tell me she had a DAMN good reason to do this. That there was no other way. I'm so sad looking at these pics. Lord our God, please let this beautiful dog be playing in heaven. Please lay it on my heart that this dog is OK so I can have comfort. I love dogs so much that I'd gladly take their place. I'd die just so they could keep living. They are so loyal and lovable. My heart is breaking so bad.

She was a little bit of nothing when found on the street, dirty, hair all matted. I brought her home; 24 hours later with me lying on the floor trying to coax out from under the bed, "It's okay, baby, mama's not going to hurt you," she finally came out. A haircut and bath revealed just how thin she was. A dog-trainer friend gave me a diet to put on weight. The vet, amazed at how thin she still was 6 months later told me to make sure her bowl was never empty. Baby graduated to regular dog food, and grew into her beautiful Poodle/Bichon self. Now, at 12 years old, her vision is going rapidly with cataracts, she's stiff with arthritis and some teeth are missing. I'll have to say good-bye to her before too long. Until then, she still sleeps with me and I'll cuddle her as much as I can and will spoil her rotten. It's hard to know now, who rescued who.

Did those who think this woman did the wrong thing read the article? This dog was suffering and I can see that there are lumps on this dog. Perhaps just fatty tissue, but still common in old dogs and heartbreaking. Also, this dog looks big and I don't see anyone in the photos who looked big enough to lift a dog this size. Hannah may look alert and active, but you don't know what was going on in a 24 hour day to get Hannah through it. Our Kiwi could not be left alone and we were only able to go out for short times due to the fear that he might fall, vomit, etc. It is stressful and no dog or human should continue putting themselves through that pain that comes w/ age. We even had to sleep downstairs w/ Kiwi since he needed someone w/ him to get through the night. This is one of the most difficult decision any pet lover has to make, and I am a passionate dog lover and even though there wasn't much left of our boy, when you come home to that empty house, it's a grief like no other. Peace.

Due to my age along with the many critters who have passed through my life, recognizing our pets' pain and difficulties of just being alive and having to take that last trip is the most painful thing I've ever done. There is no question that it is an act of supreme love. Most of us who have pets know they are not "just a dog", or "just a cat", or "just a horse" (pig. goat. cow, bird, etc.). They are just as much a part of the family as a human member. Although some states are recognizing that death with dignity is a right how come we as humans can facilitate this last act of love and kindness for the closest companions we've ever had, yet, hesitate or are downright prevented from helping our beloved humans from this right? The right to die is just as important as the right to life. Think about it!

Nobody asked anyone if you want to be born. What about that right? And since a dog can't explicitly tell you that they want to die, you have no right to take his/her life (and where euthanasia is legal, they either have to tell the doctors when they are fully conscious that they want to die or if they are on life support for an extended time unconscious and then the family decides).

We have an oldish black labrador, Zia's the name, and she's now on pills and monthly injections for her hips and knees, because she's had such an active and full life. I dread the day we'll have to make that choice, but I know it's coming. She may have one or two good years, still, before it starts to plummet, but for now, she's ok. I've lost both my parents and all my grandparents, but the one loss that still sticks with me after 10 years is losing my dog. Bless these selfless, loving creatures who want nothing more than to spend time with you, comfort you, and play with you. Those who have had the good fortune to have a canine friend like this have learned one of the greatest lessons: not only that they are capable of receiving and giving love, but that they are worthy of it.

If I have to choose between letting my dog spend his last days on Earth with so much pain and suffering, and euthanising him... Believe me, I'll choose the latter.

FK all of you who "make the hard decision" to put down your pets and expect sympathy. I've been caring for my dog for 2 years where she can't use her back legs and she needs constant cleaning and taking care of 24/7, but guess what? I never went and said "You know what? Even though she appreciates my care and she's happy to slide around her butt, I will KILL HER, because it's hard for me to take care of her." I have done everything to improve her condition from MRI scans for surgery to hydrotherapy........ everything. Even though they didn't really work, I am taking care of her and cleaning up every 2 hours, not running from my responsibilities. If you have a pet YOU are responsible to take care of them until they breathe their last breath, not to put them down if things look "sad". In conclusion F$#K you, you monsters who expect sympathy for KILLING someone who always loved you no matter what.

Sorry but when medicine isn't taking the pain away and nothing is helping my animal who suffered from cancer, yes, I had a vet come to our home and put her to sleep. Wtf is wrong with you? it's okay to let an animal suffer? seems like you have issues with death and may be keeping your animals around letting them suffer because YOU can't let go.

Well, f**k. Sympathies to the family. Such beauty and happiness and sadness in those pics...

We had to put down our Athos just a few months ago, after a long battle with cancer. My heart fell to pieces. Whatching these pictures is overwhelming... God bless you Hannah and your beloved ones
