Landlord Hopes To Keep Company’s Stuff By Forcing Them To Move Out In 7 Days, Gets Exactly What He Deserves
It’s no secret that this quarantine has been pretty damn difficult for many of us. And yes, there’s nothing more difficult than being affected by the disease itself or watching your loved ones getting sick, but we have to admit that these past few months have also brought a handful of other annoying struggles. Some people realized that they can’t stand self-isolation. Some finally admitted to themselves that they can’t prepare a home-cooked meal without burning their kitchen down. And some have been renting premises for their leisure company but then the landlord of the site decided to kick them out and sell all of their belongings to their competitors. Feeling confused? Let’s talk about that.

Recently, an employee of a leisure company shared a story about how they clapped back at the landlord who decided profit out of their eviction
A Reddit user u/poshbo shared their own quarantine story which was a real emotional rollercoaster but ended with an oddly satisfying note. Basically, the author of the post worked for a leisure company and prior to lockdown, the heads of the business were negotiating the renewal of the lease on one of their parks.
But then the quarantine happened, all of the company’s sites were closed down and the negotiations were postponed since there was much more serious stuff to think about. But then when no one was expecting the company received a letter saying that they had 7 days to leave the premises along with all of their belongings. Moreover, the landlord warned them that all the things that are still there after 7 days will become his property. And after a few days, it got even better. Suddenly they found out that the landlord has been advertising their park to their competitors and offering not just the building, but all of their stuff preinstalled as well!
That’s when the company decided that it’s time to leave. And not just leave but leave with a BANG. And they were determined to take all of their belongings. Yes, ALL of it – from the flooring they installed and the walls they built to the disco lights in the ceilings. The best part – the additional income from the sold assets has helped the business and paid staff wages!

I still can't believe it's legal to only give 7 days... Here you have at least 3 months or, in special cases at least one month.
Commercial tenants do not have any of the protections the law affords to residential tenants. The terms which govern each individual tenant are the terms of their specific lease agreement. This lease had a provision for eviction with 7 days notice.

At first I was wary that the removal of walls and flooring was malicious damage by a vengeful tenant but then I understood the context... the tenant installed everything in a vacant building and took what was theirs. Good on them. Shame on the greedy, unscrupulous landlord.
Honestly ... what an absolute a*****e that landlord is! Karma kicked his a*s!
There are people who are taking advantage of others right now. When we get past this, we will remember who showed greed and who showed good character. So the effect of this for the landlord could continue on long after this is over.
Unfortunately, we seem to have short memories. It is nice to think some of these people will reap the karma they sewed, but mostly likely they will not :(

They should have had someone pose as a buyer, then they show up with a copy of his ad. I wouldn't have pulled everything I didn't want out, I would have PAINTED IT in the worst colors -- then he would have demolition AND remodel.

Isn't there a 30 days - notice law? If yes, take the landlord to court.
Here in Australia, the govt quickly passed a law stating it was now illegal for landlords to evict businesses affected by the Coronavirus, making s**t like this impossible. The landlords must either negotiate a new temporary deal or not charge at all. Banks are then instructed to be lenient on the landlords/business owners at this time as well. Even residential landlords are helping their renters with reduced rent & this is being backed by banks as well. And believe me, no bank wants to be known as the one who acted like an a*****e during the pandemic! Almost everyone is acting like decent human beings during this unprecedented time & it warms my heart.
Too bad these folks don't live in a place that put a hold on evictions (although I realize this was a lease that ran out -- and maybe that's a different story). The mayor of the city I live in put a hold on all evictions and wouldn't let landlords kick anyone out during the highest stages of the lockdown.
The person who 1st suggested giving chocolates and getting the resulting look on the landlords face made me think of adding a singing telegram to it.
Had a landlord cut off water and power and made me my pregnant wife and two kids move about a month after we was put on quarintine.the cops said it was a civil matter they couldn't get involved. And tore my mail box down.so we could not receive mail. And we were not behind on anything. Can anyone help me with some one that can help me with my legal rights
When you act like an A$$ you get what you deserve and that is 💩. I felt a happy sense of happiness reading this. They kick out a tenant who is paying rent lmao to get ZERO, NADDA, ZILCH the BIG 0. I hope he can't rent it out and they warn any potential tenant and also tell whoever what they were paying for rent. Example I live in a 2 bedroom townhouse and pay $835.00/m CAD plus utilities and that stuff. I've been here for 4 yrs now if you want to rent a 2 bedroom it is $1100 for s****y not taken care of places. I put a lot of work into my unit. I am still waiting to go to the Tribunal for a claim I put in back in 2018 for issues. I will tell you I will take out every light fixture, basement, anything techy. They get what they give!
Your company was paying rent during the lockdown and the landlord kicked you out? Greed makes people stupid.

I thought it was illegal for landlords to do this during the lockdown in the States, or is that just for residential renters? I wouldn't doubt that there's still an avenue for legal compensation for this tennant against an obviously malicious landlord! The fact that they were advertising the space with all the current tennant's equipment intact, shows their intent was to capitalize on a clause in the contract during the lockdown. I can't believe there aren't temporary provisions in place, in case something like this happens! I'd be visiting the State Attorney's office about this if I were them.
I think that's just residential, and was the eviction freeze done by Congress, or each state handling the issue of rent and eviction freezes individually? *shrugs*

The landlord had already stopped negotiating a renewal of the lease. There is no way he would have even considered negotiating to buy the stuff because he was convinced he would get it for free. If he was the type to try to be fair then he wouldnt have pulled the stunt in the first place. As is, had they tipped their hand, it is possible that the police would have been called on the tenants; even though they were in their rights to do it, the process of proving it would have taken up precious time.
