One day, mother of two, Jaimee Newberry, came up with a brilliant idea to sew her daughter a colorful dress that was based on her own drawing. The dress was such a huge hit with both her daughter’s friends and their parents that Newberry decided to do clothes design business based on this creative idea.
Titled ‘Picture This,’ Newberry’s company turns kids’ drawings into colorful clothes that they could actually wear (currently, just dresses). So, how does it work? You go over to the Picture This website, choose a size and print out a coloring sheet. Then your kid draws her little heart out, and you send a picture of a drawing to the fashion design website. If it is I think that it's super cool. No one should suppress their creativity when it comes to day to day life, including the creative freedom of your clothing. In other words, do whatever the heck you want!! Dress however you please, live however you like, eat whatever you want, and just generally be yourself (as long as it doesn't break laws, doesn't hurt anyone, and doesn't hurt yourself). All that being said, I think that it's great that these kids are able to express themselves like this! It's an incredible idea.

The coloring sheets are literally the dress patterns at a scaled down ratio. Then each order is printed, cut and sewn.

I personally love the one where they took colored fabric and sewed it to really bring her idea to life, like the one "rainbow dress.". I think this would make a child feel even more like a fashion designer than being able to see "crayon marks" on the fabric.
What are the costs involved in this? It's like wearing advertizing for her start up company!

We are in-progress planning to add more inclusive options with time, too! Not all girls nor boys want dresses, and we'd like to get a broader range of sizes offered, too. We've been live for one week (+3 days), and launched with a very focused product set in order to see if the idea was something people really wanted. The response has been incredibly positive! We don't have a target date for additional options just yet, but you can be sure we'll shout about it from the rooftops when we do.

Byron, I'm glad you pointed this out! Sometimes that second photo is left without proper context. That was how the concept began, I made an actual dress from my daughter's drawing. In trying to scale that, my partner and I realized that wasn't realistic, so we came up with the coloring sheets - because it still shows a kid they can start with an idea inside their head, and through creativity bring it into the real world.
