In the Karen world, talking to the manager is a sport in its own league. But what if it challenges someone from a very unusual background? Because when it comes to entitled people who love digging into the lives of others, nothing is sacred.
This is what happened to an Anglican priest named Daniel D. Brereton, who got bombarded by a woman enraged by his followers. The priest posted a series of screenshots on Twitter from the DMs he received from a “very concerned” follower. It turns out, this person couldn’t wrap their head around how come Daniel tolerates his followers who work in the sex industry.
But the priest had a lot to respond to on the matter, and his mic-drop reply blew up on Twitter with 90.6K likes. It seems like talking to the church manager didn’t quite work out.
This priest shared the messages from one very concerned follower on Twitter and it went viral

It’s no secret that the subject of religion itself is a slippery one that can easily generate unwanted conflict between people of various beliefs. No wonder The US Census Bureau has not asked questions about religion since the 1950s and it’s still widely considered rude to do so even in informal settings.
When it comes to tolerating others, a famous study done by the influential psychologist Gordon W. Allport in the 1960s showed that religious beliefs in general are positively associated with a willingness to sacrifice for one’s beliefs, and a greater tolerance of (outsiders).
There’s a whole different story when it comes to the social facets of religion, such as attendance, which can “promote greater hostility” towards people of other faiths. That means that certain rituals which affirm your bond with like-minded individuals can make you more hostile toward those who fall out of the circle.

And this is what others had to say
As a Christian, I get tired of people like this who think that they have the right to judge who someone else talks to. By judging this priest because of who follows him on social media, this woman is sinning more than he is. There's a difference between a good Christian who respects everyone and a judgmental douchebag who uses religion to be in other people's business.
Trust me, you don't have to be a Christian to be sick of people like that.
Load More Replies...As a Christian, realizing that atheists and people of other religions can still respect and appreciate Christians, and not only see the hypocrites and sexual assaulters who claim to be Christians, is very refreshing.
I'm an atheist. My very good friend is a devout Christian. We often talk to each other about religion with an open and respectful mind. We both try to help others and are frustrated with those who claim to be Christian and who are unkind to those who think differently.
Load More Replies...I may be an agnostic raised by two lapsed Catholics, but even I can tell the difference between a true Christian and a poser. If you berate a priest for “tolerating” sex workers, as if they’re lesser human beings, then you are a poser. The Bible doesn’t teach tolerance, it teaches love. For everybody, regardless. It’s the most difficult thing you can do. We don’t always practice it, especially when we don’t like the other person. I mean, it’s hard to dredge up any kind thoughts about Hitler, for example (the only one I can think of is how much he loved his dogs). But to think yourself so high and mighty just because you go to church on Sunday is the opposite of the teachings. If God or Jesus (or whatever deity people believe in) ever came back, people like this Karen would be the first to burn, because of their conceit in thinking they’re better than others just because they go through the motions of faith but don’t really practice it.
I'm getting tired of seeing this "judgy Christian" stereotype. It makes me extremely sad that there are people like this, and even sadder that people think it's the norm. Let me make this clear, THIS IS NOT WHAT CHRISTIANITY PREACHES. Sure, Christians aren't always perfect. We're still human. But Christianity teaches us to be loving. It is for God to judge people's hearts. We can only be kind. Being kind is the only way to show God's love to people, which along with spreading the gospel, is what Christians are called to do. I'm so sorry that there are people claiming to be "Christian" like this out there spreading hurt and falsehoods, but please remember that not all Christians are like this.
Did you even read the whole article??! The Rev dispels this common myth. Mary Magdalene was a sinner filled with 7 'demons' but the actual sins were never said. Pope Gregory decided he didn't like her, or any woman, having such a strong place in the history of Christianity so he called her a prostitute in his sermons. At the time, that was one of the worst things you could call a woman, even though she had been 'saved'. Early popes (and other men in Catholicism) did their best to erase her from every part of history, even to the point of combining 3 different Mary's to create the one horrible Mary Magdalene. However, now even the Church itself has said that they were mistaken in this belief. It took almost 2000 years but they got there. Pope Francis has even elevated her day to a feast day, which is apparently a big deal in the Catholic church.
Load More Replies...Many people forget that americans did not leave the UK to escape persecution, but in fact to achieve the freedom to persecute. Older civilisations know better, but this particular sect now runs that country, preaching their nonsense and hatred in total disregard of slavery and the even more heinous crime of systematically wiping a out a CONTINENT with biological warfare. Now that they are debating replacing the neofascist cheeseface hitler with the quite possibly worse cuntye west, it's starting to become negligent of the rest of us that we have yet to nuke that continent clean.
Morality has no business being in the same sentence as religion. Religion co-opted morality and made it childish - your father is angry with you for not following the rules! A true adult considers their actions and strives to do the least harm. That is morality - end of story. Religion has nothing to do with that - nothing to do with morality.
These so called Christians only want the RIGHT TYPE of Christians, otherwise, you can't join their club. They've forgotten, (if they ever knew) the true meaning of Christianity. Buddhist here.
While your occupation can define you, it does not follow that it must. I am neither a believer nor an atheist Each requires the same leap of faith. I am an agnostic. But I try to treat people as if I were a Christian. A Christian to whom Jesus would have said "That's okay" I suspect he would have said that about you. Rev. Daniel.
What I find strange is the fascination with what is an inner-religious squabble between two believers of the same faith. Yeah, there are some judgmental a******s in Christianity, just as there are in all religions and even among those who say they have no religion altogether. Even if this was purely a Christian trait, if you are not of their faith, what is it to you how a person conducts their religious outreach or how a person criticizes it unless you personally are effected.
The judgment Karen has for others, is the same judgment she has for herself. No one treats people like that and is truly happy with who they are.
Thank you, Bored Panda, for finally posting something *positive* about a Christian. I get so tired of all of us being judged by the worst of us. (Of course, that's me judging, too, which isn't too cool.) We all fall short of the call to be like Christ. But I think the problem is the rule-followers vs the Christ followers. In Jesus's day there was a group of Jewish leaders called Pharisees who were so determined to follow all of the rules (most of which were actually man-made, added to God's rules) that they failed to see the whole point of God's rules, which was to help people love God and love people. Jesus called out the Pharisees right and left because they called HIM out for loving everyone, not just the "good" people. So, please know there are plenty of us out here trying to follow Jesus the best we can, and I apologize profusely for my own mess ups and the mess ups of my brothers and sisters in Christ. Whoever you are, you are loved. That's what God wants you to know.
It's not even about judging or not judging, we always do that and priests judge when they confess people. The problem about her is that she thinks that making mistakes or even being a sinner (she's a sinner too) is about excluding and not about trying to making them better persons. If what she thinks was true, the priest wouldn't be able to talk to anyone.
I left religion far behind when I was in my teens and have never returned. Not because I don't believe in a deity, but because so many people calling themselves "Christian" are like this woman. They are zero idea of what Jesus did or what he taught. Instead of compassion, tolerance and generosity they practice intolerance, judgement and hate. Far too many religious leaders teach their followers to judge harshly and to actively practice discrimination and hate. I'm always very happy to learn there are religious leaders who actually practice what Jesus taught...compassion, acceptance and kindness.
I get so tired of Christians who think they will be the only ones to make heaven... They worship God with hate in their hearts and always feel they're the only ones that truly deserve eternity... The rest of us are just heathens
Which is why I don't care too much about heaven. If it's populated with these morons a) it wouldn't be heaven for me and b) a god who would accept them with all their hypocrisy and hatred, but not an atheist who acts with love and doing good is not a god that deserves my respect and I wouldn't want to accept the invitation
Load More Replies...I believe the Gospels describe Mary Magdalene as "a woman of the city" which could also mean a businesswoman, NOT a prostitute. It would likely mean a woman of some substance and perhaps wealth. She may have actually bankrolled Jesus and the disciples. We certainly know that she was the first to know of the resurrection and to go and tell the disciples, so she is known as the "apostle to the apostles."
I love the way he deals with this. God, and heaven aren't a place for those who think they are perfect, it's for people who are humble enough to ask for forgiveness and who promise to try harder The bible is full of so many laws... some really strange and obscure verses that make it impossible for modern humans to follow every single one... so no one is perfect (let's not get into original sin here). People like this woman call themselves Christians but in practice they have little faith and less understanding of that faith as Jesus preached kindness above anything. I'm glad there are priests like this man who can speak the truth!
Well done that chap. Intolerance from those claiming tolerance, based on their personal, and usually badly thought out morality is unfortunately pretty rife these days. These people are the worst kind of hypocrites
My rector (Episcopalian priest) has a bumper sticker on her car that says "Dear Lord, save me from your followers" I knew I liked her for a reason!
Miriam Magdala (Mary Magdalene) was not a prostitute. She was freed from seven demons. No where does the Word say she was a sex worker. The Catholic Church should have to spend all their money restoring this woman's reputation after spending 2,000 years lying about her.
Fake christians abound. They are a disease, they are a fungal carpet of slimy hypocrisy.
