Johnny Depp - a man with an illustrious career, of many talents, and different fates. Born on June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky as the fourth child to a family of a waitress and a civil engineer, John Christopher Depp II discovered his musical talent at a very young age. Since he got his first guitar at the age of twelve, Johnny couldn't stop playing and even dropped out of school at the age of sixteen to become a rock musician. Just two weeks later, he tried to get back to school, but the principal told Johnny to pursue his career as a musician. And, well, that's how it went - while playing with several bands, Johnny also worked quite a few odd jobs and got introduced by his then-wife to Nicolas Cage. And although Depp didn't show a passion for becoming a bona fide actor, fate decided for him. Now, with a roster of at least 90 movies with his name, Johnny Depp is probably one of the most recognized Hollywood actors in the world. And, to honor his work, we've decided to create a list of his movies so you could either revisit them or discover them for the very first time!
So, of course, you'll see such famous Johnny Depp movies as the ones from the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, but do not forget that he's a very versatile actor and his roles in What's Eating Gilbert Grape and, say, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas show his real abilities and talent. Then there is the glorious collaboration with the director Tim Burton that gave us such gems as Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd - absolute classics. Edward Scissorhands is a fantasy romance film following the story of an unfinished artificial humanoid, played by Depp, who has scissors instead of hands. The charming creature is taken in by a suburban family, finds his calling as a barber, and falls in love with the family's teenage daughter, Kim. Very stylish and original, Edward Scissorhands won numerous awards and definitely made it into cinema's history.
I just rewatched this after years and years, and I forgot what an amazing actor Johnny is. Both his lines and his facial expressions were limited by the nature of his character, yet he still was able to make his character real.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl

Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl is a fantasy swashbuckler film that marked the beginning of the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise. The story here is this - a blacksmith by the name of Will Turner teams up with a kooky pirate to save the love of his life that was kidnapped by the former allies of the said pirate. The allies, however, are now undead, and that's where all the fun begins. There's so much happening in The Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl that it might be hard to grasp the plot at times, but it is still a fun ride and an exceptionally entertaining movie through and through.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is the second installment in the Pirates film series and a movie that broke several records upon its release, including the opening-weekend record in the US. So here, the main man is still the notorious Captain Jack Sparrow, and now he must race to recover the heart of Davy Jones so as not to become enslaved to his soul. Same as before, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is here for the audience's pure entertainment with adventures, laughs, plot twists, and all the shebang that makes it into a great (if not the best) swashbuckler movie.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a musical slasher film (well, here's a combo we're seeing for the first time!) that's an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's 1979 musical of the same name. Which, in turn, is a retelling of a dramatic Victorian tale about a barber/serial killer Sweeney Todd. Everything about this take on the classy horror tale gained critical acclaim - from design to acting, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is just a good movie, period.
Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End

Pirates of The Caribbean: At World's End is the third, but definitely not the last installment of the franchise. As they say, though - the more, the merrier! Now it's Captain Barbossa, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann who have to sail off the edge of the map, find Jack Sparrow, and make their alliances for a decisive battle. And while this third installment in the series isn't one to boast about a very original plot, it still delivers in the department of entertainment, and hey, sometimes that's all you need!
Loved Jack Sparrow in this film, as per usual, but "Pirate King" Elizabeth? Never bought it, never will!
What's Eating Gilbert Grape

What's Eating Gilbert Grape is a coming-of-age drama based on Peter Hedges's 1991 novel of the same name. The story follows 25-year-old Gilbert, who works as a grocery store clerk and takes care of his obese mother and intellectually disabled younger brother, so ingeniously played here by young Leonardo. What's Eating Gilbert Grape might seem a bit sentimental at times, but it doesn't lessen the feel of it being a real-as-life story elevated to new heights by completely stellar performances of its cast.
Such a sad film, again beautiful, should definitely be on the top of the list, hell if you haven't watched it I'm willing to watch it with you, it never hurts to watch it again, (except maybe cry)

The movie is faithful to the dream world that Irving painted and mixes horror, fantasy, and romance with an extraordinary cast of actors.

They wish to kill every pirate on the seas, with Jack being their ultimate target. Although the film was bashed by critics, Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is still great fun!

So, expect the story to get pretty dark here! Also, it's Tim Burton, after all. 2010's Alice In Wonderland is a real visual treat, so if you're searching for something like that, plus Johnny Depp, this dark fantasy might be your best choice.

Johnny Depp's stellar performance as George elevates the story to new heights, and although critics think it to be a been-there-done-that kind of movie, any crazy cocaine smuggler story is always exciting to watch.

i have been wondering if disney and other studios will be bringing him back into some of the franchises that he not only helped to create and perpetuate but gave great performances. specifically the pirates movies and fantastic beasts. it's terrible that one woman's lie was believed with little to no confirmation/evidence (except what she provided) and his career was topedoed to an extent. too bad the studios can't have a piece of humble pie and sign him on again.
I'm just amazed that it says 61, that's a lot of movies for one guy to be in. Good for him :)
