If there’s anything as soul-soothing as our new POTUS these days, it must be the DOTUS. Meet Biden’s first pets-elect, two impawsibly cute German shepherds, Champ and Major, who are bringing fur and fun back to the White House after Trump’s dog-free administration.
The Bidens got Champ as a puppy back in 2008, and his name refers to Joe’s dad telling his son “Get up, champ” when he was down. And Major has already made history by being the first shelter dog to enjoy life in the White House.
Luckily for all their fans out there, Champ and Major have now dipped their paws into social media and are now tweeting and Instagramming to their followers from all around the world. And they seem to be doing a smashing job with the captions written in newly adopted doggo lingo. But how could they not be feeling like su-paw-stars after their dad made them so proud?

Contrary to Biden, ex-president Trump had no dogs, which made him the first president without one since William McKinley, who served from 1897 until his assassination in 1901. McKinley had a rather peculiar collection of pets like a whistling parrot, roosters, and cats.
A year ago, Trump explained to the Washington Post that he thought it would seem “phony” and that he had too much work on his hands. “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time. How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?”

Thus, Biden’s tweet on November 1st which reads “Let’s put dogs back in the White House.” went viral, reaching 1.8 million people. Two happy German shepherds will be running errands around the White House as soon as the Bidens move into their new presidential home.
But if we look back through history, we see that canines indeed were the most popular choice of pets for past presidents, but they weren’t the only ones. John F. Kennedy kept ponies, Calvin Coolidge had a bobcat, Teddy Roosevelt had a rooster, and Thomas Jefferson kept a pair of grizzly bear cubs on the White House lawn.

And this is what people had to comment
I prefer cats to dogs but if I had the space and time, I would surely adopt a rescue dog. I do believe animals bring goodness to our lives... but don't necessarily subscribe to the idea that 'pet people' are better people in general. The President Elect and The First Lady Biden do appear to be wholesome, caring, invested people.
Same. Dogs require a lot more responsibility than cats and I’m not a very patient person lol. Dogs are great though. They’re loyal and will love you for life

good thing he won lmao is it just me or do trump supporters only care about children in the womb that aren't even baby just fertilized eggs but they don't care about kids being ripped away from their family and shoved in cages and don't care about the kids being shot by police in the street cause of their skin color also why does trump care so much about the Hispanic and muslum immigrants but does not care about the thousands of Canadian immigrants

Dogs are great and all, don't get me wrong I do love them. But hear me out... first cat! There hasn't been a cat in the White House in over 10 years, since Bush. We need first cats and dogs!
All sorts of pets are fun. There haven't been any White House hamsters in 51 years, or ducks in 57 years...
Load More Replies...This is so awesome and I am so happy for the Bidens and our country in general. However, I do prefer cats.
To the people commenting with stuff like "never trust a president who doesn't have a dog": Owning a dog does not indicate wether a person is of a good moral standing or not. Hitler was known to love dogs and his was a german shepherd named Blondie whom he let sleep with on his bed in the bunker.
As a dog-tolerator I agree, I don't like the idea that people judge my character based on the fact that I don't want or own a dog.
Load More Replies...Donald Trump does not have a dog. Frankly, that tells me all I need to know.
I know there are cat people and dog people and even some freaky bird people (let's not talk about the bird people) and we all live together on the wonderful planet of ours. I, personally love dogs. I could not imagine my life without Beastie. I like cats, too, but I have a severe allergy (allergic to horses, too) so I have to admire them from afar. Whether you like cats, dogs, iguana, snakes, fish, or even birds, that is just fine with me. Here is the thing, if you are capable of caring for another living creature and taking it into your home and providing the best life you can for it, then I trust you more.
I mean... they look like nice dogs, and obviously Trump was incapable of caring for any other living thing. However, I really don't like the narrative that not liking or not owning dogs is a character defect. I have lots of friends with dogs, and I'm comfortable with them and give them attention when I see them. But I'm not head over heels about them and I can't ever see myself owning one. My lifestyle hasn't permitted me enough time to care for a pet in recent years, but I'd love to have one. It just wouldn't be a dog.
You see bud, that's where you're different. If you could get a pet, you would get a pet. You're comfortable with pets that aren't yours and by the sound of it they are comfortable with you. If a pet is comfortable with you (whether it's your pet or not) I'd immediately trust you a little bit more. It's hard to trust a person who is not trusted by animals. It doesn't have to be a dog, it could even be a fish, but your ability to care for a creature dependent on you for safety makes other more likely to judge you as a good person.
