Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you want to dress up for an office Halloween party, but really hate the idea of spending the whole day dressed in a flamboyant and uncomfortable costume? Well, the Japanese have found a solution to this awkward situation. In 2014, they started a subculture called Jimi Halloween (地味ハロウィン) which roughly translates to “mundane Halloween.” The idea behind it is as mundane as it sounds—people dress up in a costume that tells a boring story and involves plain and regular clothes. The whole thing was started by a small group of adults at Daily Portal Z who “kind of wanted to participate in the festivities of Halloween, but were too embarrassed to go all out in witch or zombie costumes.” Over the years, this tradition gained popularity and grew into a big event with hundreds of attendees who gather to party and explain their costumes to each other. Scroll below for the best boring costumes and get inspired for your next Halloween outfit!

Bizarre, strange, existential, and creative- I kind of really love the idea.
This is great. This Halloween I think I will be person on hold for customer service for 45 minutes.
Lmao most relatable costume yet!
I will go as the next person in line when a new cashier opens up and says, "I can help someone over here," and the person at the end of the line moves over.
boringly fun! :-)
