Killed For A Selfie: Baby Dolphin Dies After Being Passed Around By Tourists As They Posed For Photos With It On A Spanish Beach

When tourists in southern Spain discovered a baby dolphin that had lost its mother, they started taking selfies with the animal instead of calling someone to rescue it. According to Daily Mail, the workers arrived at the scene 15 minutes later, but the animal had already died from stress. They blasted the 'selfishness' of tourists who are 'obsessed' with taking photos: "Cetaceans are very susceptible to stress, and crowding round it to take photos and to touch it causes them a big shock which greatly accelerates cardio-respiratory failure, which is what happened."

Tourists Destroying Popular Oregon Rock Formation

Tourists Destroying Popular Oregon Rock Formation

The so-called “duckbill” sandstone formation was one of Oregon’s icons, protected by a fence to keep away people because it was unstable. However, this didn’t stop some vandals from climbing over the fence and pushing and pulling on the rock formation. Eventually, they knocked the rock down. Allegedly, the group of people did this because one of their friends had broken their leg because of the “duckbill”. The famous landmark was also known as “Pedestal Rock” and “that Pacific Northwest rock.”

Bison Calf Euthanized After Yellowstone Tourists Put It In Their Car To 'Keep It Warm'

Two tourists thought they were doing a good deed when in fact they were dooming an animal. The pair found a bison calf near a road in Yellowstone National Park and put it into their car so it would be warm. This act sealed the baby bison’s fate: it was no longer clear where it came from and which bison was its mother, meaning it couldn’t be reunited with its herd. What’s more, it started approaching people and cars on the road, creating dangerous situations. The bison had to be euthanized because two tourists couldn’t leave wildlife alone like they should have.

Russian Tourist Fined $24,000 For Colosseum Graffiti

CNN reported that authorities in Rome have slapped a 20,000 euros ($24,800) fine on a Russian tourist who carved his name into one of the city's most famous historic landmarks. The 42-year-old man was apprehended after a guard at the Colosseum saw him scratch the letter "K" in a section of brickwork. The graffiti was found on a ground floor section of the nearly-2,000 year-old structure where restoration work was taking place.
"The damage to the monument is notable," site superintendent Mariarosaria Barbera said. "The incision cut out part of the surface of the structure and compromises its conservation and image."

Jerk Tourists Chase Endangered Tibetan Antelopes For Photos, Get Fined

Seven people were fined for pursuing a herd of Tibetan antelopes with their cars. Driving two white SUVs, they trespassed into Selincuo National Nature Reserve in an attempt to take pictures of the animals. When the speeding cars got dangerously close to the antelopes, anonymous witnesses filmed and captured the illegal actions. After people started posting the footage on Weibo (China's equivalent of Twitter), it caused a huge backlash as netizens expressed anger over what they believed to be a careless and dangerous way to photograph the creatures. Later, Lhasa police made an official statement saying that the drivers had been detained and the cars they had hidden had been found. Eventually, the Forestry Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region published the results of the investigation, imposing a penalty of 15,000 yuan (2,257 US dollars) on each of the suspects. The reserve's caretakers responsible had their basic allowance suspended for three months and the local administrative departments were also blamed for the incident.

All of them confessed to the vandalism. "They were excited [about] seeing the monuments in Hampi," Ballari SP Arun Rangarajan said. "They claim to have toppled the pillar in sheer excitement. They had no idea how historically significant Hampi is."
"All four have been [receiving death threats] since the video went viral."
Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in east-central Karnataka, India. It became the centre of the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire capital in the 14th century. By 1500 CE, it was the world's second-largest medieval-era city (surpassed only by Beijing), attracting traders all the way from Persia and Portugal.
Hampi's ruins are spread over 4,100 hectares (16 sq mi) and UNESCO described it as an "austere, grandiose site" of more than 1,600 surviving remains of the last great Hindu kingdom in South India.

Tourists Damage Ancient Landform Where Dinosaurs Roamed

Tourists Damage Ancient Landform Where Dinosaurs Roamed

A group of Chinese tourists damaged a 200,000-year-old land formation in a geopark in Zhangye, in central China. They bragged about it on a video-sharing platform called Douyin. The footage (now deleted) shows two men and a woman (not including the person behind the camera) walking on red and yellow stripes of sand, a signature of the Danxia land formation. There was a text next to the original upload: "Good things must be shared twice: we went through the back door and didn’t have to pay for a ticket. This area looks even better."
"I destroyed a 6,000-year-old [formation]," a member of the group was heard saying.
According to Liang Xiaofeng, an assistant researcher at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the bottom layers of the Danxia landform date back to the Cretaceous period, about 40 million to 100 million years ago. "That’s the era from the show Dinosaur Corps Koseidon, when all the dinosaurs were active,” he told South China Morning Post. The sand layer damaged by the tourists was estimated to have been formed 200,000 to 400,000 years ago.
Local authorities have launched an investigation to find the tourists as soon as the video became public, and experts were called in to determine the damage. According to the government's statement, railings around the affected area which had not yet been opened to the public were also damaged. The city's government said it has set up measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Omg! Tourists are so stupid! Once, while living in Alaska, we were on a long fishing trip (400 miles of wilderness). On the way back to the city, we pulled over for a bathroom break, slung our rifles and headed into the woods (we were also scouting for fishing spots). When we got back to the road, this van had pulled over and this family was taking pictures of a moose that was grazing near the road. Not unusual, but then the dad said "I'm gonna pet it!" And he started toward the animal. We unslung our rifles and yelled at him to back away. He asked if we were going to shoot him. I said, "That's not a bad idea, but I'm more worried I'm gonna have to shoot the moose. You have no idea what those things are capable of." I told him if he insisted on irritating a full grown moose, please let us get to our car first. I had no desire to die because of his stupidity.

When communism took over in Communist China, all customs and forms of respect for things, history and surroundings were done away with as it was deemed old fashioned and in some cases, paying homage to feudal customs. Any form of respect for history was deemed an Enemy of The State. So, for decades Communist China's people were not taught manners, how to behave or respect for fellow human beings, animals or their surroundings. Because of trade and commerce with the west they are now 'in the money' and the rest of the world was suddenly open to them. So now these 'uncultured' people with lots of money to spend travel to destinations which were previously denied to them. Being a Chinese person myself, having been born and brought up in a 'western society', I get terribly angry and ashamed when I see this kind of behaviour being perpetrated by 'my kind'. I hope this sheds a little light on the situation.

I wish that they would've tripped and impaled their phones and cameras with the branches

Let me put on my tin foil hat here and say that the recent tariff issues and d. Chump "ordering American's" to stop doing business with China might have something to do with all this hate directed at the entire race of people. I apologize, as an American to anyone from China or Asian people in general who are NOT bad people. Anyone hurt or offended by some of these stupid comments, by ignorant people who hold one persons actions against the entire race! Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves and stop following blindly. Its ugly and makes you look foolish as hell!

And when one of these morons gets "attacked", the animal will suffer the ultimate price.

I have seen similar at Punakaiki on the West Coast of NZs South Island, as well as on the Christchurch Cathedral Tower; when this was still standing years ago

Buffalo's have a nasty temper when bothered. Should he decided to attack there won't be anyone who can help.

I’m definitely going to be considered uncultured here but I am confused by what’s wrong here? Are there paths in Yellowstone that you should stick to? I’ve never traveled there or read much about it. Or did the people seek out the animals? I mean if I happened to be walking around and a bison were just there I would take a pic. It looks like they were a safe distance the angling of the pics are weird though. I mean when being in the wild you assume all risk with wild animals. How is taking a picture harming this the other pictures were truly disgraceful but I am not sure this one counts unless I’m missing something.

It only takes a couple of minutes to be gored by an annoyed bison. Personally, I say let people learn the hard way when it comes to megafauna.

I am so beyond disgusted. If they didn't need the revenue, I would say we should stop all tourism to significant places like these.
