To make our lives easier and more comfortable, people have always come up with new inventions and most of them have been really useful, like cutlery or medicine to treat illnesses that were once incurable. But there are inventions that benefit humans less and may even be dangerous.
We all probably have looked at something, couldn’t understand the purpose of it and thought that it was unnecessary to invent it. Redditor numbnerve wanted to know what people think is the invention we would be better off without and over 22k people joined the discussion with some serious answers.

They kill/maim livestock and wild animals
They kill/maim innocent people decades after conflicts have ended. Many times the victims are children because they can't read or don't understand warning signs
"Smart" devices. No LG, i don't want to download an app to use my f*****g washing machine, i want to wash my clothes ffs
Adblock detectors. Your site forces me to disable adblock? Ill just go to another site.
Devices meant to break after a short period of time, and devices that purposely have parts you can't replace.

The UK doesn't have so much trouble with these thanks to the Telephone Preference Service, which allows people to opt-out of sales calls. This works for legitimate companies, but unfortunately the scammers don't abide by the rules. I have a Raspberry Pi with a Fax Modem that monitors incoming calls on my landline and answers as a fax machine to unknown numbers or numbers I have blocked. Really we should be beyond this, but the telecommunications industry doesn't seem to want to fix it.
Pesticides.
They’ve ruined the environment by killing off the pollinators. I swear, they will be the reason for more food shortages just as swiftly as climate change will affect us all.
Cookie pop-ups. How come we still don't have a more efficient way to manage our browsing privacy.
Some sites are better than others, but it is starting to get annoying, as when you decline cookies on a site, it can't set a cookie to say that you declined cookies, so it asks you every ruddy time you visit it! Not all cookies are evil and some are needed to make sites work, such as remembering preferences and logins, but tracking cookies can go and do one!

Facebook is worse than SPAM. Once you connect with someone you know, your PC and Phone are inundated with emails from a friend of a firend of your real friend are suddenly all over your Phone and PC. I don't know most of these people. Never met them, never talked to them. Yet I;m inundated with friend requests. What the Heck!
i agree, i stopped contact with these people over 50 yrs. ago for various reasons so why? would i want to invest more time with people i have no connection with? ALSO....when i initially signed up 2 yrs. ago, how did FB have all my damned info already?? really? WHY & HOW?? i lasted 24 hrs. then deleted the whole thing.....but i know my footprint is still out there....pisses me off...

It's a sh**ty thing if you don't use it properly. I use it to see pictures of all my family and to discuss family things as we are all so far apart. I don't (and neither do they) discuss politics, money, religion or sex. Works pretty well if you follow a few guidelines.
Facebook is bad only because Zucks idiots think they can silence people who are smarter than them and will ban you for the dumbest s**t. Ive had multiple month bans for calling out racists who didnt get banned. Try saying White trash or stupid white people and see how fast you get punished for being "racist"
I think that the lack of control around hate speech and bullying is the failure of social media, for the people that use it as it was intended get a level of benefit from Facebook but I can support the idea that it’s destroyed interpersonal communication and relationships and increased bullying and can be strongly linked with increased self harm

It's original purpose was wonderful. For people to keep in touch with people over distances. But of course, humans being humans, the basement scumbags decided that they would join in too, and now look at it....sigh

Facistbook sucks!! I’m a Fakebook Felon. I’ll never regret posting the truth! I just got suspended yet again for 7 days because I violated their community standards 4 times in the past year.! I served 30 days for each of the violations and now Facistbook is punishing me again for them, I believe that is considered double jeopardy! Zuckface is a brazen liberal a$$hole!!
No I disagree thanks to Facebook I am in contact with relatives all over the world and a lot of other advantages when used properly it is brilliant.
I still love it. Still the easiest way to communicate with family and friends in one place. I don't spend a lot of time reading others stories though. BP takes up more of my free time!
Facebook has become very shitty in its quality. I don’t just mean users. The whole user interface has gone down the drain, and for how much money they’ve made, it has WAAAAAY too many bugs.

tbh, in my teens, it used to be fun when it was more about connecting you just to the people you knew in real life, or connecting you with people with similar interests. Before there were official pages, news, and especially ads, it's been definitely the best social media website to share HQ pictures with friends, create albums, events, groups, etc. Then old people found out about it, came in and screwed it all up.
Fast fashion. I can’t imagine the amount of cheap, tacky clothes just mountains in landfills.
Auto play videos, especially in non video streaming websites. NOBODY asked for them, yet so much work is getting put into making it a web standard. Just f*****g stop

It's a small annoyance that culminates as you keep hopping back and falling for it again, and absolutely the sort of small clue culminating in realizing you're not actually in the Good Place.

The 50 people in this online group were definitely tree huggers who are "health conscious" that believe in gluten free this and vegetarian/vegan that. I wouldn't be surprised if they made this list up to 75 things and they would add on deodorant because they believe crystals would do the job better without all the "nasty" chemicals.
I think many of the things mentioned above are really up to people not controlling their own behavior. Not taking personal responsibility for their actions and choices. Cigarettes, alcohol, bad tv, gambling, etc. Are all ok in small doses once in a while. But if you choose to let yourself get lost in these activities then that is on you.
