Here’s An Infographic Showing How Anyone Can Disappear From The Internet Completely
In this day and age, huge portions of many people’s lives are lived here on the interwebs. More particularly, on social networking sites. According to research conducted by “We Are Social,” at the beginning of 2020, there were approximately 3.8 billion active social media users in the world. In other words, social media sites are currently used by almost half of the world’s population. Moreover, this number is constantly growing—throughout the year of 2019, the number of social media users rose by 321 million!
Even though social networking sites provide their users with plenty of benefits, there’s also another and a much darker side to these websites. For instance, social media sites are sometimes seen as a place where everyone’s constantly comparing themselves to others, where a person’s worth is based on the number of likes they get, and a place that promotes unrealistic beauty standards. Moreover, when you think about the amount of personal information you’ve posted online, it gets pretty spooky.
Because of that, it’s not even a surprise that people sometimes find themselves wishing they could just erase themselves from the internet altogether. Turns out that you can actually do that.
WD Storage came up with a step-by-step guide on how to disappear from the internet completely
“Do you long for days gone by, when our lives were led in the real world rather than online? Perhaps you’re unhappy with the way social media makes you feel. Or maybe you’d just like your life to be more private. Maybe it’s time for you to disappear from the internet. Completely,” WD Storage writes in its article.
“Perhaps you’ve got a history of embarrassing posts. Maybe you’re just ready for a simpler life. Either way, there’s plenty that you can do. Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to perform an impressive vanishing act,” the article continues.
Firstly, WD Storage talks about the consequences that all the information posted online could have on people’s lives
Are you ready to disappear?
Let’s run through the steps you need to take to erase yourself from all the most popular social networking sites
WD Storage starts with Twitter
Now let’s vanish from Facebook
From LinkedIn
And, of course, Instagram
Congratulations, you’re halfway there!
Let’s dig deeper, shall we?
If you can’t delete an account—make it unrecognizable!
Now, it’s time to unsubscribe from everything
If you’re determined to vanish completely, you’ll have to delete your email
Make sure to not lose your focus in the future!
Congratulations—you’re nowhere to be found!

Share on FacebookJust because you delete your accounts doesn't mean THEY deleted all of your info. The stuff is still there but 97% of people can't access it. I'm sure FB still has that little folder with all of your account stuff on it that doesn't get wiped when you quit.
At least in the EU server admins are legally required to keep *all* your data for 6 to 10 years, possibly more depending on your work. Including but not limited to those d**k picks you sent on snapchat.
Load More Replies...yeah but what about the emails that hide the unsubscribe button in the mariana trench
Get that scuba gear, get that high-pressure withstanding suit, WE'RE GOING FOR SOME MARINARA
Load More Replies...This is all common sense. Delete social media and unsubscribe from mailing lists. No kidding. You can do all that but all those pics and posts you don't want anyone to see are still out there...somewhere. Maybe people who are going to be embarrassed by something shouldn't post it in the first place...
This is why I don't post photos of myself anywhere online.
Load More Replies...Um...you can never ever ever totally disappeared. Once it's on the web, it's on the web. And you can look back on way back machine.
Yes. But they store your information. Once you are on the internet you are never truly gone
some do, yes, but in EU you can legally ask for your info to be removed and it must be
Load More Replies...OK, so there's older forums that don't change all the details, for instance when your username found its way into a reply. Also, if you enjoy social media, you can tweak settings so the outside world cannot see the things you don't want them to see. You will never be truly invisible in these times unless you never started it. But even sport's clubs publish data online, running events, stupid employers that don't care about privacy, other uninformed people.
Can't really delete things once it's out there on the internet but what you can do is just delete your apps and not use social media anymore. It's a relief. I've been doing that for months. Only use this app and twitter. My friends need me they can call or text. No need to see things posted
I don't have anything outside a Steam account. .. Too bad my arrest record can't be deleted.. Least it says I was found innocent. Lol
Or as Ron Swanson would do throw away your computer and tell your mailman to never deliver mail to your house again.
This is an excellent guide but will only prevent casual searches for you by amateurs. Other things that make you and your location easy to find are: Voters Roll, Telephone Contract, Broadband Contract, TV Contract, TV License, ANY Credit Agreement even if it is fully paid off, paid up to date or long finished, Mortgage Payments (again if if it's paid off) House Ownership (even if you own it or bought it outright) In addition to ALL of this tracing companies who could be engaged by someone you don't want finding you can still try to confirm the address (if they initially suspect it) by phoning and asking for you by name (often claiming to have a parcel for you or saying they're from a government agency) or putting a card through the door or even calling at your address. They may also canvas friends and/or your neighbourhood. If you truly NEED to disappear then it is actually quite hard.
If you have a relatively common name (like Dan Jones or Laura Smith) there are literally thousands to millions of people with the same name and knowing which Jones you are is impossible. There are at least three people in my town with my name. One of them even has a dog with the same name as mine and goes to my vet.
My brother has NO social media. He's a teacher and he said he does not need that type of trouble.
WD has a very simplified look on life. In this day and age it's impossible for a normal person, living a normal life to be invisible to the authorities. When you are employed they know where you work. When you rent or buy a place they know where you live. And in a normal healthy society there's nothing wrong with that. It becomes creepy and dangerous when your government is interested in your religion, sexual preferences, political views and opinions.
Jokes on you, some companies won't hire you if don't give them your Facebook address to browse through. Oh, you don't even have a Facebook? Bye, the interview is over!
If that's the case, why would any sane person want that job?

Am so happy, thanks to Dr OLIHA I also learn that Dr
Your friends and work colleagues on social media have shared their address book with the platforms they're on, so even if you only have email, there's info out there about you anyway via your friends and work contacts on LinkedIn. And all public info, like voter rolls, home addresses, so on are on the internet. Any of those "people search engines" are able to pull up a ton of info on you for free (and a lot more to anyone willing to pay).
About 5 years ago I remembered how Live (and dead) journal was a massive thing so I went on there and logged in...some of the stuff I used to write was ridiculous, so I deleted it all, but it's probably still floating around somewhere, along with my Myspace page and Napster account :P
I like social media, it keeps me updated on friends I made while traveling. Just keep in mind it's the happy stuff they post and don't compare yourself... And never post awkward pictures to begin with!!
GPS disabled - check. not on 3 of the 4 listed - check (still needs work). Use a pseudonym not remotely close to me (including location, age, gender, and language) - check. Using pseudonym on Bored Panda too much - um, gotta work on that...
As nice as it would be to delete your self every company has a back server. Just in case you change your mind and not to mention. It take two weeks to unsubscribe to email listing and you can't even get a job or anything with out a email listing. Many of the utilities companies use email listing so your still tied into the web with that plus just because you don't have social networks just means you don't care about the complete nonsense of other people doesn't mean you don't existed in the internet. But good try though
