As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.
"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."
He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.
"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."
Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.
"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.

The tangerine toddler, who, Lord willing, will be put in his rightful place, insults his political opponents because he doesn’t have enough logic to fill a teaspoon, much less counter their arguments. Of course, the mere fact that Obama was black was enough to divide the country because of the racists, but at least he didn’t actively contribute to it.

Putting politics aside, some of the shots of Bush43 giving Michelle candy are hilarious, because Barack has the look of a mom who sees grandma or grandpa slipping the kids some candy.

Politics aside, this is so heartwarming and reminds me of my siblings and I running to meet grandma when she came to visit, and fighting to see who would be first to open her closed hands which always had candies for us :) When my mom would ask if she gave us any, grandma would say "I don't know what you're talking about!"
I can't help but think.... that if Michelle Obama ran for prez... they wouldn't even need to count the ballots - it'd just be "Aight. She in. DONE." and there would be much rejoicing...

I use the desktop version too & the only way I find a comment is to look at the picture & scroll thru post to find

My favorite random fact. Once interrupted, it takes over half an hour to return to the same level of concentration. Not sure if this is considered a fact, but it sure feels like it is.

My personal take: I feel bad getting interrupted, so I lose the interest in finishing what I was saying. Maybe I just am too sensitive, but being interrupted is pretty awful, so I see it.

BMI, Body Mass Index, was not developed to study individual health, but to scientifically justify racism. The man who thought it up never studied medicine. More interesting, most current sources don't mention this. Instead it is said to have been developed to study obesity. Rewriting history?
The man who developped the BMI was a statistician, and statistician are heavily involved in all part of sciences and even more in medicine. Every clinical study to get a new drug on the market involved a lot of statistics. To dismiss Quetelet's work because he was not a doctor of medicine shows a misunderstanding of how science works. He was working on obesity and population growth and developped this index as a growth marker, not an health marker. It was adopted as an health marker years after some studies in the 60's showed its reliability.
It was developed by Quetelet as part of "social physics" between 1830 and 1850, to help find "the average man." A white European. He created the pseudo- sciences, "Positivist Criminology," "Anthroponmety," and"Phrenology." All were popular at the time. The BMI was used as the foundation of far worse ideas. This is history, not my opinion.
So because of the fact that obesity isn't spread equally over all groups, a tool to determine obesity is racist? You know that there are groups of people that can't afford healthy food or proper medical help. As a result those groups have more people that are overweight to obese, including white poor people. It's also strange that only in the US BMI is linked to racism. In other countries it's called a medically sound way to determine whether your body weight is correct in relation to your height.
I do understand poverty, this isn't about that. Instead it references a historical event / time / movement. This happened, it is not liberal or conservative.
