UberFacts says it shares "the most unimportant things you'll never need to know" and I have to admit, that's a pretty accurate description of its content. Launched in 2009, the Internet project provides people with random facts on all kinds of topics.

From the number of janitors in the US with PhDs to the genius way Swedes protested their government classifying homosexuality as an illness, these titbits of information will make you an expert on trivia in no time. So grab yourself some broccoli (random fact: the vegetable is rich in vitamin K, and a few studies in older adults have linked a higher vitamin K intake to better memory), continue scrolling, and upvote your favorite entries!

More info: uber-facts.com | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.

"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."

He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.

"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."

Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.

"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.

So there you have it, folks. Browsing trivia isn't a waste of time. It's a mental workout!

Nevermind Trump making me miss Barack Obama, he even makes me pine for the days when GW Bush was in power. George and Michelle's easy-going friendship demonstrates that democrats and republicans are not mortal enemies, as Trump would have you believe. A good leader unites his countrymen, not divides them like der Drumpf.

Don't get fooled by the appearances, people. I'm going to tell you a true story I witnessed with my own eyes. This young man was wearing a mask, we were all waiting for the lift, in a semi-closed space. He took his mask, sneezed, uncovered (at least he made sure it was not in our direction), and put his mask back on. Yeah, that happened.

It's supposed to, dufus. This is what we call an echo-chamber. Bias confirmation. Stroking the ego. Think Jonestown and devotees of Xenu. Yes. Trump is quite likely a clinical narcissist, but the aim is not to avoid narcissists being elected to presidency but rather to funnel as large a number of people through a particular gate. And who is supposed to benefit, one way or another? You? Cute.

Being psychotic and being a psychopath is NOT the same. Psychosis means you have hallucinations and delusions. A psychopath is somebody who lack normal empathy. Psychosis is a mental illness, a psychopath has a personality disorder.

This one is questionable. Narcissists in particular would often be more likely to do the seemingly virtuous thing when in public because they prefer to be viewed in a favourable light. Psychopaths would be more likely to do whatever suits their particular agenda. Also, neither of these groups are inherently bad and it is very bad form to be speaking of such groups - personality disorders are mental health issues usually linked to traumatic experiences in childhood. Like, you can't talk about potential predatory behaviour simply because they wear a dress and so must be accepted due to the inherent virtue and harmlessness of wearing a dress, yet it's perfectly acceptable to denigrate based upon an - association - with untreated and possibly unidentified maladaptive behaviours. People with these diagnoses are people, too, and they aren't all out to get you you f*****g pious cowards.

kim-bowie avatar

People refuse a mask because they don’t understand how the disease spreads, not because they don’t care. Psychopaths and narcissistists are not dumb, they likely do wear a mask to at least protect themselves. Another things is that psychopaths and narcissistists do actually care about others, not in the same way that everybody else does but they are not cold and empty monsters. Ever heard of the trolley problem? A psychopath is more likely to sacrifice a few to save many because they think about what saves the most people, while other people would not be able to sacrifice even one person even if that meant it would save 100 people because of emotional attachment. So with that in mind, I find it very unlikely that a psychopath wouldn’t want to wear a mask to protect the masses, because they understand things from a purely logical point of view. What drives people to go against science and recommendations is an emotional rebellion, something a psychopath doesn’t even have within them.

It’s like imagining a computer refusing to do what it’s told to do because it lack emotions, which is nonsense because it’s the very lack of emotional response that makes the computer do what it’s told because it doesn’t feel, it only thinks. Logic. No protests.

This explains a lot (to those who hadn’t already figured it out). Also, I guess narcissism and psychopathy have become an epidemic of their own in the US; affecting approximately 40% of the population. Then again, since there are similar factions in other countries, I guess you could say it’s another pandemic.

antisocial personality disorder affects 1% to 4% of the US population. Please do your research before leaving incorrect comments. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4649950/ It is estimated that NPD is present in 0.5% of the general United States population and in 2-16% of those who seek help from a mental health professional. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2669224/

There are more terrorist attacks/threats on US home soil than terrorist threats/attacks from other countries. This is why their gun laws are pathetic, you are more likely to be accidentally shot by your own gun than by a terrorist from another country.
