From the number of janitors in the US with PhDs to the genius way Swedes protested their government classifying homosexuality as an illness, these titbits of information will make you an expert on trivia in no time. As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.
"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."
He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.
"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."
Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.
"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.

Same with street names. When I first moved to Raleigh, NC in 1979, there was a street just outside the city limits called Jackass Road. I always chuckled when I’d see the street sign, and liked the non-conformity of it. By 1993, when I moved away, the name had been changed to some banal thing that I don’t even remember. Don’t know why, since jackass is another name for a donkey—-the word ass is even in the Bible (and NC is firmly located in the Bible Belt).

The city of Pula from Croatia, translated in a formal way, in Romanian is penis. Do we want the Croatians to change the name of the city because we find it offensive? No! I guess there are many places around the world which names are funny for people from other countries because it means something to them in their language. So to your amusement I provide to you some examples from Germany: Wedding (district of Berlin), Kissing and Petting. But what I love even more is that there are villages and cities all around Germany which have the same names as countries, prominent cities or even continents, like for example Rom, Kalifornien, Afrika, England, Kamerun, Amerika,.. 😄
And there is a beer from F*****g called "F*****g Hell" (hell = blonde)

That town also has a brewery that produces a pale ale called "F*****g Hell" ("hell" being German for "bright" or "pale"). They actually had to sue to be allowed to market it under that name internationally

The man who developped the BMI was a statistician, and statistician are heavily involved in all part of sciences and even more in medicine. Every clinical study to get a new drug on the market involved a lot of statistics. To dismiss Quetelet's work because he was not a doctor of medicine shows a misunderstanding of how science works. He was working on obesity and population growth and developped this index as a growth marker, not an health marker. It was adopted as an health marker years after some studies in the 60's showed its reliability.
