UberFacts says it shares "the most unimportant things you'll never need to know" and I have to admit, that's a pretty accurate description of its content. Launched in 2009, the Internet project provides people with random facts on all kinds of topics.

From the number of janitors in the US with PhDs to the genius way Swedes protested their government classifying homosexuality as an illness, these titbits of information will make you an expert on trivia in no time. So grab yourself some broccoli (random fact: the vegetable is rich in vitamin K, and a few studies in older adults have linked a higher vitamin K intake to better memory), continue scrolling, and upvote your favorite entries!

As it turns out, there are some biological reasons behind people's desire to "store" trivia in their brain and the rush of excitement they feel when they get the chance to use it. According to psychologist John Kounios Ph.D., it's a lot like playing roulette, too.

"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning," the professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. "I think whenever you're challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It's sort of like gambling."

He said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing video games. However, unlike gambling and video games, trivia is generally not a potentially dangerous habit, Kounios said.

"I don't think there are any pitfalls. Like anything else that's fun, it takes up time."

Moreover, retaining information about things we're interested in can be like an exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.

"That's the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don't use it," Deborah Stokes, Ph.D., L.P.C., B.C.N., a psychologist in Virginia who focuses on neurotherapy, said.

So there you have it, folks. Browsing trivia isn't a waste of time. It's a mental workout!

Liechtenstein was invaded by Swiss armed forces on at least four occasions, they took a wrong turning, for two of which Switzerland apologized and Lichtenstein had no idea why.

Nevermind Trump making me miss Barack Obama, he even makes me pine for the days when GW Bush was in power. George and Michelle's easy-going friendship demonstrates that democrats and republicans are not mortal enemies, as Trump would have you believe. A good leader unites his countrymen, not divides them like der Drumpf.

I'd have to agree with Dorothy on this one- while it's fantastic that Britain might have founded/supported the growth of a country, an achievement concerning 'conquering and ruling' typically isn't a positive one.

When my country gained independence from Britain we had a LOT of stuff taken from us. Mostly gems and other precious treasures. Very disappointing.

Yeah. It's so mean when they act like people of color, like in my country, are lesser and try to control them.

some people have a very simplistic viewpoint on the British empire, yes much wrong was done and religion was forced but we didn't do anything that the Spanish, Dutch ,French and Portuguese didn't do. In some cases we did good things, wasn't all bad bad, some people wish they still had British rule ask Hong Kong, lives are not better there now.I am not defending colonialism but its not a simple case of us being the bad guys, many leaders after the Empire did much worse like Robert Mugabe.

Just someone being a badder guy does not make good guys out of bad guys. If Britain never subjugated Zimbabwe, Mugabe probably would have never become important. With this way of thinking you are turning yourself in circles.

The sun never set on the British empire. The British empire ruled the globe and is liable for millions of deaths in the colony they ruled. The native population were kept as 3rd rate citizens. The French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, etc, colonial governments just robbed and destroy the world. Thanks for these God fearing nations we will have wars until the end of time. Slavery on a world wide scale is just abject. This is the legacy left by these European countries.

Trivia: name the 2 nations who unilaterally declared their own independence from Great Britain....time's up. The USA, and Rhodesia. No, not Zimbabwe...the old Rhodesia (formerly the colony of Southern Rhodesia). Extra points for what these two nations have in common in their history. (And, no, it's not macadamia nut orchards...)

Britain looted our wealth and more importantly our knowledge and culture was destroyed. And left us with their inferior culture and way of living. My civilization has never enslaved another. We r "civil" in the truest of manner. The only bad thing we did is inviting the Britishers into our home. They destroyed so much knowledge and our religions that would have benefited the entire world. So ya screw u Britain.

The majority of people in Britain today are descendants of those who, by and large, did not leave and colonise other countries. The people who did the colonising are not my ancestors but the ancestors of the citizens living in those countries now. Stop blaming today's people for what happened a bloody long time ago and look to sorting out the problems of today. History is important so we don't repeat mistakes but constant finger-pointing and hatred of countries for things done centuries ago? Fecking pointless. Look at the countries involved in the two world wars - are we hating and blaming Germany and those on their side for anything? If anyone is they should be ashamed of themselves. The people in those countries are not responsible for the actions of their ancestors either. FFS move on.

Not only did they spread civilization (and I suppose, misery in some cases) across the world, but they also gifted them a day off. :D

Huh? "Spread civilization"? There were mathematicians, scientists, astrologers and physicians in places like Timbuktu, Kush and Mayan Mexico WAAAYYY before the first British conqueror stepped foot outside of Europe. Their societies had laws, banking, transportation, trade and private enterprise. Hell, even the ancient Greeks traveled to Ethiopia and Egypt for lessons in maths, geology and astrology...The British Empire did some good...but lets not pretend they are the gatekeepers of civilizations...

Not calling out either side here because i completely support peoples right to protest. But 7% of thousands of protests can still do quite a lot of damage and at least 25 people have died from protests / political unrest.

There are more terrorist attacks/threats on US home soil than terrorist threats/attacks from other countries. This is why their gun laws are pathetic, you are more likely to be accidentally shot by your own gun than by a terrorist from another country.

Goes to show that just because someone is a janitor doesn’t mean they aren’t educated and also just because you have a PHD doesn’t mean you will get a job in that field. I am curious to know how many refugees also have PHD’s that aren’t recognised in their new home.

That’s okay the US voting system is flawed anyway, some peoples votes don’t even count because of the state they live in.
