Everything is relative. For example, Shaq might not look tall when he's on camera next to other basketball players and Simone Biles might not seem short when you see her competing against other gymnasts but put them near each other and you'll instantly get an idea of their size.

So to broaden your understanding of the world, we at Bored Panda put together a new list of interesting comparison pictures from all sorts of different areas, including nature, technology, and social issues. It's a series we've been working on for a while too; if you like scrolling through these images, fire up our earlier publications here, here, and here. Maybe you missed some!

That is really bad care from the shelter. Not only because the dog likely has a lot of tangles in the hair that can be a problem. But also because more people would adopt their dogs if they look cleaner

That's so sad. Imagine the age of this tree. What's wrong with the world? In Germany we would put a fence around and a information board containing the age, the high and extent and the roots, maybe the timeline of the years this giant was a witness. But now he's cut down, maybe for copy paper.

Well... you would have to put a fence around full forests, as this tree isn't overly unique in that geographic area. But, if they keep cutting them down, it will become unique... so the whole forest fence idea isn't that bad.

Probably get downvoted bwth....Most everyone who posts on here lives in a clear cut (which will be a long, long time returning to forest) but that is OK 'cus it is your backyard so turn a blind eye. Where do you think the wood from the trees go? The loggers keep it in their back yards? YOU people are the ones creating the demand. It is sad to see the trees go but they will return, just not in our lifetime.

This is not necessary. Poplar is a weed tree that grows very fast from the roots left behind after cutting the tree down. Every 12 to 15 years that same tree can be harvested. Cutting trees like above that take hundreds of years to regrow, if ever, is not necessary. And not everyone lives in clear cut. I happen to have spent most of my life in areas that naturally don't have trees. But you're right that we are creating the demand, however it's a demand for wood, not old growth specifically. Poplar is a great alternative that is simple to plant and an 8 inch clipping from a poplar tree shoved 6 inches into the ground is ready to harvest multiple times in your lifetime. We will be long gone before this tree is equally replaced. Poplar is also great for the environment since it purified water and 2.5 acres taps 11 tons of CO2 each year. Too many animals and plants require old growth to live. Cutting this is irresponsible. Bamboo is another alternative that can be used for lumber after a little processing. Bamboo grows even faster. My floors and a lot of my furniture, as well as some of my clothing and paper products are 100% bamboo. We are so incredibly short sighted that I'm left with little hope for mankind's future.

Ship off the log to Japan or China for pulping, and then on to the paper mill. They've been doing the same to old growth forests in the Tongass for a while now. Old growth redwood (sequoia sempervirens) forests which are privately owned--such as Pacific Lumber, taken over by a Texas "businessman" named Michael Horowitz about a decade ago, when logging accelerated to pay off the leveraged buyout--continue to reduce acreage.

Yeah, but there are animals that rely on dead trees for there very life. They need to be left in place. People need to allow at least some places to progress completely human-interference-free. Unless that tree was a threat to human life, it should be left alone. There are plenty of alternatives for mankind to still be cutting down giant trees that will take hundreds of years to return, if they ever do. Forests don't need people to manage them. The survived for eons without us. We need to demand that industries use alternatives. A better term than "manage" is "meddle". It strikes me as arrogant when I talk to people about owning 150 acres of desert and they ask how I take care of all that land. I take care of it by staying out of its way. It was desert long before I got here, and if I stay out its way it will be here long after I'm gone. BOOM!--managed!

It's not an issue when you consider that this is most likely not the last one they cut. Cutting these is common practice so present tense works fine. They are cutting these trees down. Past tense only applies if this was the last one they cut. OP says, "...these trees..." This implies a practice of cutting trees rather than an act of having cut this one.

Heartbreaking truly makes me cry. It is so disgusting to me that a rich/wealthy landowner sees beauty in money over the Many Living trees like this. The tree in the photo had to be over well -I'm guessing here but-, it was at least a century old. Less than 500 years ago nearly all of this continent was covered in giant trees of all kinds. Very few are left like that.

Yet another reason buying Vintage or used furniture is better, even if it needs a little fixing. By reusing furniture already produced, the demand for new wood items is lessened. The wood from this tree would be very expensive and prob used for things regular people couldn't afford. Vintage items are already made using wood of this quality as they were logging like there was no tomorrow and making many "classes" of furniture with what is now considered quality wood. Today we literally don't have trees this big and old regularly harvested. And we don't need to either.

The logging industry helps the environment... Hear me out; this particular tree was being killed by a white fungus, which can choke the life from said tree. The resource was harvested to keep the surrounding environment safe and flourishing. The logging industry also helps the population of animals by reducing the amount of underbrush and such. These people plant millions of trees a year, can you say the same, or even one?? Let us not ridicule what we do not understand.

Nope. If it was in an old growth forest (99% cert), it would have simply fallen with time. And cedars, while not as long-lived as redwoods and cypresses, do live very long lives. This tree was felled because it contained X amount of board-feet of lumber.

The plant on the right gets substantially more sunlight than the plant on the left with the shadow of the shed but sure. (That being said, research does show that the gentle vibrations of normal, calm voices can stimulate plant growth. Google it.)

Genuine question: seeing as they are a protected species and the feathers have cultural significance, would that person be allowed to keep that feather?

Why has it taken us so long to make these?! They should've been a thing for decades.

The color changes you see underwater are really startling. Like my good fins are red, and you can see them turn blue and then black as you get further from the surface. Other colors look the same, but red colors are filtered out very quickly.

It is ridiculous and it’s really harmful for your self stem. The other day I saw a L T-shirt that was 1Cm wider than a xxs. Two trousers of the same size, one fit perfectly and the other didn’t pass my tights. I bought in the same store a xxL and a L that were the same size (of a normal L). I felt horrible when I needed a xxL until I measured it with the other shirt I got. It’s horrible for the self steam.

Sure it's a dandelion? I think it might actually be a salsify seed ball. They look like dandelion seed balls but bigger.

I still don't understand why anyone would give any money to Apple after all they do and did. It became nearly as bad as religion, where they prey on naive people.

So much modern housing is built on ancient flood planes with zero planning during construction for bad weather. England is terrible for it, plus they stopped dredging the rivers on the say so of environmental nut-jobs which really helped flood everywhere
