Everything is relative. For example, Shaq might not look tall when he's on camera next to other basketball players and Simone Biles might not seem short when you see her competing against other gymnasts but put them near each other and you'll instantly get an idea of their size.

So to broaden your understanding of the world, we at Bored Panda put together a new list of interesting comparison pictures from all sorts of different areas, including nature, technology, and social issues. It's a series we've been working on for a while too; if you like scrolling through these images, fire up our earlier publications here, here, and here. Maybe you missed some!

For anyone considering this, do a little research before you decide where to donate. Some of the "charities" actually charge really high prices for the people who need them. My family discovered this when my sister developed alopecia universalis that 9 years old.

It is ridiculous and it’s really harmful for your self stem. The other day I saw a L T-shirt that was 1Cm wider than a xxs. Two trousers of the same size, one fit perfectly and the other didn’t pass my tights. I bought in the same store a xxL and a L that were the same size (of a normal L). I felt horrible when I needed a xxL until I measured it with the other shirt I got. It’s horrible for the self steam.

I used to work with a woman who worked in the fashion industry. She said this is quite common, even within the same company. She stated the reason for this is the giant fabric rolls used to stamp out the pattern. Fabric on the beginning of the roll is stretched more than the fabric at the end of the roll. This means when they are washed for the first time in the factory, some fabrics shrink more than others, depending on where in the roll the patterns were cut.

Honestly this is so harmful that there should be laws to prevent this! To have standard sizes for specific measurements globally!!! That way it will be easier to shop and it won't do any damage to people with eating disorders, low self stem or weight problems!

Or 1 size cuts you in half at the waist, but the legs fit well. The next size up still cuts you in half, but the thighs and butt start to get saggy. Next size up *still* cuts you in half, and the rest of it looks like you're a child trying to wear mom's clothes. What kind of ill-portioned woman are they being made for?

My mom was complaining that at her age she has turkey-waddle arms, and a belly and she's self conscious about the short cap sleeves on women's tees, and how tight they are around the waist and how short they are. She was buying women's 2x to try to get some room and she isn't all that big. I looked on Amazon at any tee that was nice and unisex The size L or women's has a lot less fabric and 'give' than a man's L, for the same price. Inches difference in length, sleeve length, width. That same day I was helping my niece do a study for her class on this very topic. We ordered 6 pairs of jeans each from the same company, same size. Out of the 6 I got, 1 fit perfectly, one was OK but I had to keep pulling it up. The other 4 were tiny, tiny and I couldn't even pull them up. Same . exact. everything.

this is SO FREAKING ANNOYING! it's called vanity sizing, a company bumps everything down so the large is now a medium, the medium is a small, and the small is zero. so basically no one knows what size they are and it's impossible to switch between brands without spending an hour finding one that fits

And even the same make, model, and size can have different results. In manufacturing, they cut a ton of these at the same time, so the actual resulting cloth will differ in dimensions based on where in the pile they were when being cut. Its ridiculous. That's why ya gotta try on EVERYTHING (which my wife and I both hate, but...welp).

I wore a standard 10/12 in 1993. I found the most beautiful wedding dress imaginable, but the size 12 wouldn't even zip, and I had my heart set on this particular dress. I kept trying on larger sizes until I found one that fit comfortably, it was a size 18-20. Are you f**k*ng kidding me? The one day in a woman's life that she is supposed to feel her absolutely most beautiful and I had to buy a dress 4 sizes larger than I normally wear? I think wedding dress designers must be bitter, sadistic spinsters. Don't get me wrong - I looked amazing, but I ended up having to have it altered because of the crash diet I put myself on.

An article I read pointed stuff liek this out, but itb was the difference in shirt lengths between male and female. The womams are usually shorter, I can barely find anythilng I like that goes mid thigh or more. Even in the babies section the girls shorts were significantly shorter showing the thighs. And gurks are usually blamed for what they wear rather than toxic clothing industries.

I always buy men's t-shirts because womens are too tapered. After menopause I expanded a bit and I just feel more comfortable wearing men's tees.

This is why I have always loathed clothes shopping. Too much taking off and putting on clothes. I was always in a bad mood after shopping.

Take a tape measure with you when you shop! You're standing right there -- measure your hips, measure the pants. You don't need to try them on, inches won't lie! This will save you a lot of time and money! Especially efficient when shopping thrift stores.

These are Levi's jeans and in my experience they are quite good with size persistence. That's why I wear only Levi's - I know that size 27 will always fit me. But I've had an experience when the new jeans I got looked a lot smaller than the ones I already had even though they were the same size. The thing was: the new jeans were high rise and super skinny just like in the picture and how do you get the "skinny" effect? You make the pants a bit smaller but from very stretchy fabric, so they fit anyway. I'm guessing this is what's happening in the picture as well. When you put them on, they stretch to the right size.

There is no size standard anymore. Every brand has their own size scale. they ultimately mean nothing with respect to reality.

I have actually noticed this with designer clothes for men as well. Tiny dress shirt pockets....the absolute worst idea. Pants can be as much as two sizes off. Shirts labeled XL that do not fit in the shoulders and yet the sleeves go way over the wrist to almost the mid hand.

right? totally insane. They should just put a sign on one end that says smaller and a sign on the other that ways larger and let people sort it out.

Women's clothing sizes are not consistent from manufacturer to manufacturer and sometimes even within a manufacturer and something should be done about it to make them more consistent across the industry. I am just better off taking the Mrs and girls shopping or getting them gift cards/certificates.

If I buy capri pants they come to my ankles. Buying any kind of pants is hard. The sizes are so far from being consistent. Same with shoes, I can go from a size 5 1/2 to a 7 1/2.

Womens Jeans are not sized like this. Waist sized jeans are usually mens jeans. BUT there is a big discrepancy between the two jeans.

American sizes are unrealistic. How can any human be a size 0? In Australia I am a size 8 which is quite small. In America I am a ridiculous size.

The only way for clothing to be measured should be in a fixed standard of measurement. So if you are buying a pair of women's jeans, they should be x-y-z where x is the waistband in cm/inches, y is the widest measurement of the jeans at the hip and z is the length of the inseam. That's it. Absolutely nothing else should be allowed and it should apply to all clothes.

Not just womens... When did an inch stop being an inch? Do an experiment - Put the measuring tape across the stretched 32" waist of a pair of jeans, and you should get 16" (half) across. If it is not, they are fudging the sizes... Lost track of the times I found shorts etc advertised as being in "my size", that while looking at them suspiciously, would not even go past my knees... This is intentional mis-labelling and consumer fraud, and the online companies wonder why their return rates are so high, or people order multiple sizes to return what doesn't fit..

Yeah, I've worn a particular size forever! Decided to try Poshmark, found a cool pair of retro jeans in said size. Nope, they were at least two sizes to small.â˜č. Only get clothes you can try on first.

The smaller pair distinctly says, "super skinny." I would PRESUME that meant it's supposed to fit very tightly. Not SURE about the pair in back, but it LOOKS like a style that would be a relaxed fit. One pair is supposed to fit very tightly on a 32-inch waist, and the other is supposed to fit very relaxedly on a 32-inch waist. This is true of men's pants.

American sizes are bigger, Italian and Asian ones smaller, it all depends where it has been made, not on your weight or beauty.

So much modern housing is built on ancient flood planes with zero planning during construction for bad weather. England is terrible for it, plus they stopped dredging the rivers on the say so of environmental nut-jobs which really helped flood everywhere
