I haven't worn leather, silk, or wool for decades, and I wish I had heard of this before...I am going to have to research immediately. It's difficult because so many items that I need use leather trim, and if Desserto becomes widely available, maybe manufacturers will use it instead of animal products. Well done them!

It's not around since too long yet, we're just a few years from the first public appearance. If it proves to fulfill the expectations and is priced reasonably, it may find its way into broader use. The defendants of leather still, even if granted every claim they make, don't acknowledge that it contributes to a great deal of animals' suffering, and in most cases can be replaced easily and without any practical downsides, nor with downsides in regard to environmental impact, at least in comparison with leather. Anyway, getting rid of using animals as living reactors to produce things is a method bound to be extinct once we're able to grow stuff in actual, artifical, reactors - will be a lot more efficient while we can't afford inefficient processery anymore even today, and once no one has to close their eyes to the cruety anymore to maintain their lifestyle and self image, a lot less eyes will no more be closed in that direction, leading to an increase in demand and a decrease in demand towards actual animal products.

the issue is with the animals themselves, because cows produce a ton of methane and their crap pollutes streams.

So now, all the skins from the cattle we use for meat will just be left to rot. Way togo, saving the planet, one backward step at a time.

I'm a leather worker and this is misleading. Though catus leather is exciting, and eco-conconcious, leather is a by-product of the meat industry. The animals have already been slaughtered for food, and leather production just makes sure as much of the animal is going to use as possible. Cattle is not killed just for fashion, that's wrong. Besides most leather is produced for protective material.

So because it's a much more sustainable process, are they passing that savings on to the consumer? Or are they just charging more because environmentally conscious goods are trendy?

This is false. There are no cows killed solely for the fashion industry. They slaughter more than 4 billion cows per year for food. This is where leather comes from.

... in the same way, there are (almost) no cows killed solely for the food industry. They aren't surprised they might be able to sell some leather on the side with every cadaver again and over and over again. This is expected, priced-in, and just another source of income that results from death and suffering. Be it leather, be it meat - buying it means supporting it.

Digging up obscure facts isn't just fun. Turns out, it's also good for our mental health. For example, experts say that playing trivia games can provide a dopamine rush much like gambling, but without the negative effects.

Even if our trivia games differ, the benefits are there. Whether we're playing Trivial Pursuit at home or attending a pub trivia night, the basic premise remains the same: we experience the thrill of providing correct answers to questions about lesser-known facts.

"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning,” John Kounios, Ph.D., professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. “I think whenever you’re challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It’s sort of like gambling.”

When an elephant from a herd dies, the other elephants surround it in a circle, paying tribute. Elephants from other herds will often join if they had "met" on the trek to find water as they remember the scents of other elephants their entire lives. Having known a few elephants in my life I truly believe that they know the souls of people they love. Just my opinion. I think they felt his death and needed to honor him. There are many exceptional documentaries about elephants on PBS, Animal Planet, Blue Planet, and Nat Geo.

Kounios said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing a video game.

However, unlike gambling and even video games, Kounios said trivia is generally not a problematic habit.

“I don’t think there are any pitfalls,” he said. “Like anything else that’s fun, it takes up time.”

Over the past decade or so, pub trivia nights that are popular in the United Kingdom appear to have grown in other parts of Europe and the United States.

Enthusiasts like Kishler enjoy getting to interact with people at these events, especially compared to electronic trivia games.

She has learned that doing well at these social trivia games gives her "a feeling of validation" and increases her self-esteem.

According to Stokes, learning large bodies of knowledge can often start with trivia. And people who are interested in trivia can be brainy, have a high IQ, and be smart on a lot of levels.

However, Kounios said that people aren’t necessarily better at trivia games just because they’re more educated.

"Some people soak up facts,” Kounios added. "Plenty of people with a lot more education may not remember what they had for breakfast yesterday morning."

"In typical people, my observation, not backed up by any research, is that their interest in trivia is confined to topics that they are generally interested in. So if a person is very interested in history, then they may either seek out history trivia, or they might just naturally pick it up in the course of learning about nontrivial aspects of history."

During the Holocaust in Greece, the entire, 275-person Jewish population of the island of Zakynthos was not deported after Mayor Loukas Karrer and Bishop Chrysostomos (1890–1958) refused Nazi orders to turn in a list of the members of the town's Jewish community for deportation to the death camps. Instead they secretly hid the town's 275 Jews in various rural villages and turned in a list that included only their own two names. The entire Jewish population survived the war.

Stokes pointed out that trying to retain information about things we're interested in can be like a good exercise for the frontal cortex as the brain ages.

"That’s the first thing to go with injury or with age if we don’t use it," she said.

Of course, it's completely understandable if all the stress and negativity sometimes drains your brain of the desire to learn and exhausts it instead.

In an earlier Bored Panda interview, Lenore Skenazy, the president of Let Grow and the founder of the Free-Range-Kids movement, said that before we can become curious again, we have to do the hard part: get off the couch. Force yourself out the door. Why? Because beyond your four walls, things are never exactly the same. Weather, animals, people, sounds, smells, clouds—they’re all swirling about."
