I did a little bit of research because I refused to believe that was whale oil everytime I see oil it's all jumbled up rainbow not a straight color fade from one to the other this article https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/6633300/amp explains how this happens. Apparently its swamp gas built up on the surface it's an interesting story

Those are cypress trees and that is pretty normal around them as the water is usually full of decomposing matter which does have oil in it and accumulates on the surface like that. Most of the oil reserves in the world came from decaying plant matter not animals.
Hate to ruin the magic, but that lovely rainbow water is probably floating gasoline.

Wondering if it's caused from resins etc from trees/plants?? I have also seen marshes with a substance floating in them resembling 'oil'...

The person who saw this, should do some research, it looks like some chemicals were dumped there, also where does this go besides the earth where it ends up in good water, this situation is a cause for cancer, do children play nearby, this is scary !!!

Heartbroken at this level of littering/pollution/disregard... I've seen crazy things in the woods, no doubt, but when it's obvs just trash? *argh*
Some of these need to be brought to the attention of the authorities, some are too cute to remove, and some need to be explained! (Like the pile of carrots, dishes, and toilets.)
Most of these things make me wonder how they got there. And I don't mean the trash, but the other ones. There must be a story behind them, and I wonder about the people who put them there. That's why I also like to see photos of abandoned places.
I live close to a former motorcross track in Belgium that's been closed for a few years now. Passing by one day I noticed this tree. Looks like they threw used tyres over it when it was still a very young tree and now they're part of it. Knipsel-5d...ec4d3f.jpg 
Inexplicably, I found a kayak graveyard in the middle of a forest in Wellington, New Zealand. At least 100 old kayaks, many kilometres from the nearest body of water. High and dry, growing moss and mould. kayaks-5d1...2d80f1.jpg
