Five Generations. My Daughter Was Born The Same Year My Great Grandma Turned 100

mrseagleeye Report

Finance expert Ryan Monsurate explained to Bored Panda that the reason why women’s clothes have small or no pockets is simply because that’s the choice that’s offered by most brands at the moment. “I think if larger pockets were offered, they would sell well. I don't believe this is market equilibrium,” he said. In other words, it’s a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem because for trends to change, trends need to change.

Monsurate added that purses aren’t as effective an alternative to pockets. Especially when it comes to one of the most ubiquitous tools we use all day long, our phones. “Phones in purses aren't as accessible as phones in pockets,” he said.

Couple At Woodstock 48 Hours After They Met And 50 Years Later

PBS Distribution , Ben Trivett Report

Unfortunately, not all differences are pleasant and fun. Bored Panda also reached out to writer and founder of Voice of Salam, Elizabeth Arif-Fear. One of the issues she’s interested in is the differences between men and women. Especially regarding the wage gap, gender inequality, and how to solve these problems.

“The facts speak for themselves. Less than 4% of CEOs in the world's 500 largest corporations are women, for every dollar men earn, women earn 70-90 cents and women spend 200-1000% more time than men caring for others (children, elderly family members, ill relatives). This has to change,” Arif-Fear told Bored Panda.

New Zealand Supermarkets Are Finally Trialing Less Plastic On Their Fruit And Veggies

New Zealand Supermarkets Are Finally Trialing Less Plastic On Their Fruit And Veggies

Photo on the left is what it's currently like buying fruit and vegetables from a supermarket. Even the 'odd bunch' ones down the bottom right are meant to be less wasteful because they're not the normal perfectly shaped/colored ones, but still come in plastic bags. Photo on the right is the current trial in a handful of supermarkets around the country. Here's hoping it's successful and they roll this out nationwide!

In France we have biodegradable paper bags for loose fruit and veg at supermarkets. How is this so difficult to implement everywhere?

I WISH this was an option everywhere. Having to unwrap all the stupid plastic, just to throw it out, is sickening, and totally unnecessary. :(

I remember when all produce didn't come in plastic. I think about it constantly. It wasn't a big deal. Hate how much plastic we use for no apparent reason and it just adds to my weekly trash. Annoying.

Trial failed btw. Turns out people don't like their blueberries touching each other and the supermarket was having to throw out large amounts of unsold food. Also the picture is misleading, yes you can have all that prepackaged food but right next to it is the unpackaged items so people can choose for themselves. And Countdown are aware of their environmental impact and realised their biggest pollution was coming from old refrigeration units and the coolant used so are upgrading all of there refrigerators around the country, less exciting than plastic use but just as important.

The thing is, in many cases the plastic helps keep the vegetables and fruit fresh for a longer time. And wasted food is a relevant source of methane. There must be a middle point.

In the UK in most supermarkets they try and make you use your own bags, or a reusable net bag for fruit/veg, but they still have the plastic bags out as well.

Though, unless using recycled paper: paper uses a lot of energy source to make, while plastic's main energy source is when they need to be broken down. Also, I especially dislike the plastic nets! You absolutely can not recycle those.

I have a genuine question. The checkout belts in supermarkets get covered in all kinds of spilled ew from other people's shopping - from water to chicken juice to laundry detergent to bleach to motor liquids since they generally sell all that. Some of them can make you sick/are toxic if ingested. What would stop any of that from getting on the food?

It would be more useful if unpacked fruits and vegetables had the same price as the food in plastic packages. I pay so much more money just to avoid the packaging which doesn't make any sense at all.

Well, cutting down trees is better than using plastic. One tree can make so many bags, papers, wood pieces, all that stuff. And you can always plant more trees. If you're so worried about it, go and plant a damn tree. Meanwhile, plastic can be reused, yes, but it has to be in forms like plastic bottles. And plastic takes soooo long to decompose, as well as polluting and contributing to deaths of both aquatic, land, and even flying animals.

After 9 Years Of Work, I Finally Got My Braces Off! I Couldn't Stop Smiling

ScoutMasterWes Report

According to Arif-Fear, the best way forward is for men and women to support each other. She advises women to openly share their stories of mistreatment in the workplace and to highlight the differences in how they and their male coworkers are treated.

She also advises men to avoid “mansplaining” and instead be allies to women. “Ensure there's a seat at your table, ensure you value the contribution of women. Let's all look out for each other and ensure that gender inequality becomes a thing of the past.” So while some differences in the world are intriguing to look at, others need to be tackled head-on.
