Coffee was first introduced in the 15th century, and to this day, it maintains its status as one of the most popular beverages, with millions of coffee drinkers worldwide. The black brew is made from ripe berries, which are picked from the coffee plant, processed and dried. Once dry, these 'beans' are roasted and ground to be brewed into the coffee drink we all know and love. Over the centuries, coffee has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry and become part of our lifestyle and even cultural phenomena. That is true when you consider the comparison bean to bean because roasting does little to the caffeine. If you measure coffee by weight, 1 kilogram of dark roast will have more caffeine that 1 kilo of light roast. Measure by the scoop, There is little to no difference between the caffeine contents of dark and light roasts. This is all assuming you are comparing the same species and type.

Drip Coffee vs. Espresso
There's more caffeine in an average cup of drip coffee than in espresso.
This doesn't surprise me, the difference in the preparation is that in expresso the water is forced through the tightly packed coffee at high pressure, whereas with drip coffee the water slowly works it's way through via gravity - so the water takes longer to absorb all of those coffee flavours (and obviously caffeine).

Decaf coffee is not completely caffeine-free. The decaffeination process usually removes 94-98 percent of caffeine. Studies have shown that while the average 16-ounce caffeinated coffee has 188 ml of caffeine, the average 16-ounce decaf has 9.4ml.
