Visualization can be applied to pretty much any field; it helps to tell stories by curating data into a form that's easier to understand, highlighting any trends and outliers. And there's no place on the internet that is as obsessed with it as r/DataIsBeautiful.
The subreddit runs on a simple mission: to collect visualizations that effectively convey information. But the way its 16 million members go about it is anything but. There are no fake numbers, goofball statistics, and trivial analysis—just legitimate facts, portrayed in aesthetically pleasing ways. Such a delicate balance.
We at Bored Panda have already covered it once but when a community is that big, you know it's gonna keep delivering quality content so we just had to make an update. Enjoy!

Symptomatic Breakthrough Covid-19 Infections
World Elevation Map, Including Bathymetry (Ocean Floor)
One of the subreddit's moderators, u/PHealthy, took some time out of their day to tell Bored Panda about the latest r/DataIsBeautiful news. "Obviously, these days COVID is a very popular topic, and [our posts] frequently make r/all but really anything topical/trending tends to do well," they explained.
"So for instance, a Nobel prize or school shooting post would probably do well. But a soundly made novel DataViz always tends to do well, e.g. Tyler's recent post. But meta posts can do very well, too. So really it's all about balancing DataViz presentation with the topic being relatable, all the better if it's Reddit-related."
The Massive Decrease In Worldwide Infant Mortality From 1950 To 2020 Is Perhaps One Of Humanity's Greatest Achievements
If you're white in the U.S., your infant mortality rate is 4.8. If you're Black in the U.S., your infant mortality rate is 10.8. Racism in healthcare is real, and not enough people know that.
There Are More Cows Than People In The States Colored Blue
Let's pause and think for a moment. 16 million people is a huge audience. (And I'm not even talking about making it to Reddit's front page). One that many publishers would be proud of. Reaching such a number with just organic growth is proof that people really value r/DataIsBeautiful.
As my colleague Jonas pointed out in his text, the moderator team is purposefully left as a small group of professionals who focus on data visualization at some part of their lives.
Plus, the subreddit treats its original content creators as "first-class citizens," constantly engaging them and making sure they're credited and acknowledged for their work. As always, we provide a link to each post that we feature as well (you can find it under the pictures), so if you're interested in some particular visualization, follow it to its roots — there's usually an interesting discussion in the comments, too.
"We bring a data-centric view of the world to millions of people every day—from important information about the COVID-19 pandemic all the way to a random dude's daily bowel movements—and our community prides itself in that fact. For example, we had community members posting analyses and projections of COVID-19 trends back in January and February 2020—well before anyone in the U.S. was taking the pandemic seriously. r/DataIsBeautiful is THE place to go when you want to see the signal through the noise of hectic daily life,” one of the moderators explained in the earlier Bored Panda piece.

Even with so many members, u/PHealthy believes that r/DataIsBeautiful retains a certain character, "unique to this corner of Reddit in regards to churning out decent DataViz posts. Of course, the creators take center stage with their amazing original content but (not to pat my own back) fairly strict moderation is a big part of keeping the community unique and also keeps the sub from turning into just another garbage re-posting karma farm like a lot of subs on Reddit."
The human brain processes visual information better than it processes text — so the charts, graphs, and other elements found on r/DataIsBeautiful can be very powerful — you understand exactly what they're telling you. Something tells me this isn't the last time we'll feature this awesome subreddit.

"What Is One Country That You Will Never Visit Again?" Answers From R/Askreddit
This is somewhat misleading, as the very worst countries are ones no one visited in the first place.
Oh, I also said Egypt before I even saw the map. As a woman you can not go anywhere without being constantly attacked by men, it was so annoying.
Yeah, I visited Egypt with another woman, and it was a nightmare. We mostly stayed at the resort, because any time we'd leave we'd get groped and pawed. Even the men working at the resort were hitting on us, but they at least didn't touch us. It was a nightmare. Never going back.
Load More Replies...At least I'm not the only one who will never again go to Egypt. Many great things to see in Egypt but also the most unfriendly people I have ever encountered. On the other hand, I will definitely visit the US again because it combines great attractions and great people.
Their are several reasons why a country can be unpleasant. The way people act with visitors, the climat, the clichés people have and are surprised not to live in when they come, the food they don't love, their bias against other cultures... It would be more interesting to make different maps.
I don't know, I've got the feeling, besides pickpockets in some European countries, and the well known kidnapping problem in some other countries in this world, most places welcome visitors and tourists with wide smiles and wide open arms. It's when you decide to live there that you start to see a different reality as someone who looks different. It's a reality that's not always bad, or good, but a very important one that's surprisingly widely overlooked in general.
Load More Replies...Because it's a beautiful country with magnificent historic buildings, but people don't realize that the country is very poor. It's like India, rich in culture but the people are just surviving. It's filthy, a lack of hygiene, no health system, poverty... tourists don't like that.
Load More Replies...Yeah, this map is not a good one. Lighter colors don't necessarily mean a country is more favored by visitors. It just means fewer people have been there to complain about it.
Load More Replies...Having been to 42 countries, I am more than happy to stay in Paradise...New Zealand. 😊
I have spent time in 19 countries. The southern tip of Malaysia, across the harbour from beautiful Singapore, scared me. As a woman I dressed very modestly but still had a group of young men on a bridge walking behind and saying all the obscenities they knew in English and another day a young man buzzed me dangerously with his car.
There's lots of places I visited that I wouldn't go back to, not because I didn't like them, but because I got to do/see everything that interested me there already. For folks who just prefer new things they won't be as interested in the stuff they got a thorough tour of the first time.
Load More Replies...Egypt doesn't surprise me. Never heard a single positive about from anyone that has visited. Maybe they have some romantic view of the place and because it's just another city with all the problems that come with cities, it's an anti-climax
I went to Egypt, loved the landscapes, all the ancient relics and diving in the red sea. Hated being constantly groped.
Load More Replies...A more fair depiction might be have large the percentage of people who has visited a country does not want to return to it. I have got at feeling that the countries highligted on the map is those that most people have visited, and hence has a relate and experience with. The more people visiting a country the higher the number of people wanting to return will also naturally be. To automatically infer that a high number of people not wanting to revisit a country must mean that it is bad, could be to oversimplify things by ignoring another factor that plays a major role in the outcome.
Odd... I would have guessed the entire islamic middle east would qualify, but apparently Egypt managed to ecclipse Saudi's human rights record on women?
It doesn’t actually say the person wouldn’t visit again because they hated the country, I’ve been to Australia for a 6 week backpacking trip and loved my time there but because it is on the opposite side of the world and I spent quite a lot of time visiting as much of it as I could, I probably won’t go back since there are many more places to visit in the world.
I dont know why Egypt is that bad... I looove Egypt, I want to travel there next month for vacation
Don't go alone. Take at least one man with you at all times. Believe me.
Load More Replies...The USA is the third most visited country in the world. Statistics don't always tell the full story
More visitors = more people who don't want to go back. If I've never travelled to Malaysia, of course I can't not want to go back. Side note - I love Mexico.
France and USA don't look good here but they 've been among the most visited countries in the world for decades ! go figure. lol
The reason they're on here is because they're among the most visited countries in the world. No one's going to say they'll never go back to a country they've never been to, so only popular tourist destinations will appear here. This chart is flawed by design.
Load More Replies...The French can be really unfriendly compared to people in other European countries
Load More Replies...it's rather amusing that the entire world wants to immigrate to the united states, so this seems like more baloney
Misleading: USA, Mexico, India, China, France, Egypt and China happen to be some of the most touristically visited countries in the world. Out of several millions tourists every year, it is clear a significant part of them did not have a perfect holiday or fell in a tourist trap.

Where Are The World's Airports? This Map Shows Locations Of The Worlds Airports And Heliports
This map doesn't check out. There are not this many designated airports in the US, and some countries that aren't very populous are showing dense airport locations. While it's true that many aircraft can land outside airports, the spots on this map is not showing where those places are ample. I don't believe this map, as someone studying US airport directory maps as a student pilot.

I hope the next generation or rather the current generation would make decisions based on data, rather than how they "feel". Especially the ones that would have major impact in their lives. A lot of times, how you feel does not really reflect reality. This is why marketing and political campaigns work.
