Insurance Agent Gets Fired For Using A Client’s Restroom, Takes Revenge By Informing Them About The Situation So They Cancel Their Policy

Recently, a story from an insurance agent, Tosser_tin on Reddit, has caused quite a stir in the Antiwork community. “I just got fired for using a client’s bathroom….” says the headline of the post, so you can see where this is heading.

Turns out, while visiting the client, the author “ended up staying at this woman’s house for 3 hours today getting her, her two kids, and her sister signed up.” Moreover, “she offered me coffee (which our company says we ‘have to’ accept otherwise it would be rude) and I drank two.” Predictably, the need for the restroom followed and the client offered to let the author use the one in her home.

This could have been the end of the story, but it wasn’t. At the company Tosser_tin was working for, cups of coffee had to be accepted out of politeness, but the need for the loo on duty, apparently, is a big No-No. Read the whole story below to find out how it ended and be sure to share your thoughts on this whole situation in the comment section.

To find out what an expert had to say about this incident, Bored Panda reached out to Christine Mitterbauer, licensed and ICF-approved career coach and serial entrepreneur, who was happy to share some useful tips and insights. “It’s a shame that senseless rules and regulations sometimes mean more than common sense and normal decency,” Christine said.

“Unless the employee made a mess in the clients’ toilet, there’s no reason to discipline or even fire them for using the toilet. It doesn’t matter if the employee was aware of this rule or not, it’s simply an unreasonable and degrading rule, especially given the working conditions of that poor guy who spends most of the day working in his car,” she explained.

Later, the author added some more updates to the story

Although Christine has never heard or witnessed a similar incident in her career, she has seen people getting fired for the craziest reasons. “I have seen people get fired for taking home some out of date biscuits that were lying in the staff room. The argument from HR was that this amounts to ’stealing’, which again is an example of getting hung up on senseless rules rather than using your common sense.”

It seems like the incident caused a stir in the community and many people called out the company’s policy

I once had a food delivery guy ask to use the toilet, said yes and he pooped and stunk up my house for over 10 minutes. I'm sure he was more embarrassed to have to do that in my home -especially when delivering food- than I was bummed about the time he spent and the stink he left (that was quickly fixed with some scented spray) when I was about to eat dinner. Did I like it? No, not 1 bit. Would I let someone do it again? Absolutely!

How can they make it mandatory that you accept coffee from a client? Some religions do not allow their members to drink coffee, LDS for example. I happen to hate coffee just can't stand the taste. Some people can't drink it for medical reasons. I don't see how a company can force you to drink the customers coffee when offered. Also who the hell is going to call the company and report you for not drinking their coffee?

I was thinking the same thing. I love coffee, but my stomach cannot handle it. It seems like this company just has arbitrary rules, but they were probably made years ago in the mind of winning clients with extreme ass kissing and old-school style respect. That doesn't make these rules any less ridiculous though.

I know of a local HVAC company that will fire their employees if, they find out, that they used a client's bathroom. I just don't understand. I Always offer drinks to anyone that does any work in my home. Isn't it normal for everyone to potty? Maybe these folks need to spend the night with a good old fashioned UTI. JS

That coworker totally forgot that snitches get stitches. It’s an unwritten blanket rule that covers all situations. But the customer canceling those policies and ensuring her other family members did as well is comparable to a good beat down. I wonder if the snitchy witchy got fired for causing the cancellations of several new insurance policies since we’re firing folks for crazy reasons. Just a thought…

The rule that gets me is that they must accept a drink. Where I used to live in Florida, people weren't allowed to accept drinks. It was considered a safety issue. The drinks could be something they're allergic to, or it might have something that could hurt them or make them sick. (I still gave maintenance workers outside bottled water, cuz Florida summers are brutal!) But to force someone to accept coffe, which makes you pee and then fire them for needing the bathroom? That's like a boss needing their employee to come to the 5th floor, but firing them for using the elevator.

I always make sure my bathroom and toilet are extra clean if I have anyone coming around, whether it is friends or a tradesperson. I tell tradespeople where the toilet is when they arrive. I also make sure there are fresh towels etc. I can't imagine being so churlish as to deny people who are visiting to work your bathroom facilities or cold or hot drinks. Furthermore, why wasn't he told this when he started his job? Quite astounding all round. I would have been furious if I was the customer too!

I read all the comments and I agree with them even peeing in the boss face hehe. When nature calls you best have a plan. And what I'd demand is that boss be made to drink the whole pot of coffee and lock the doors to all bathrooms and hide the keys laughs. He be so in a panic to find something to pee in he be yelping like a pup. But if I was his supervisor Id let him pee his pants then sit in it all day. Then ask him if he's got any more great ideas. He might feel like he's walking on egg shells after I got done with him hehe. And no I am not your mommy to bring you clean pants laughs. Let's see if his common decency will kick in and he get off his hi rocker. Laughs.

Unless that boss wants to come clean it up. I have heard in my time of crazy people but I'd sure tell him a thing or too and get every one to sign a petition against him or walk out and that's it. Ive let strangers with kids into my apartment to use bathroom and I'd encourage anyone working in my home to use it as well. . Like the book says, everyone (poops). After working in restaurants for 15+ years where i didnt have time to pee i messed up my bladder. Current job noone ever gave the morning opener woman breaks because she doesn't smoke so for 20 years she hasn't drank anything while at work. I realized this my first week and can't budge her on drinking but i do hang around her at key points of day so she can run if nature calls. How has not using the restroom become polite?!

Client's houses are basically their workplace. Of course eating their lunch etc won't be possible at someone's house but using a bathroom when client allows it should be perfectly normal. My mom would even feed workers like renovators when they were working in our house for many hours Also what the f**k is that rule about accepting coffee? Stupid af, you can not want coffee and not be rude about it by saying "no thank you"... I guess people who don't like coffee or have bladders are not welcomed at that company

Top 10 Best Insurance Companies in the World https://www.5minutescraft.net/2022/04/top-10-best-insurance-companies-in-world.html There are several ways to rank the size of insurance companies. Companies can be measured by their market capitalization (the value of the company on a stock exchange) or by using sales figures, such as net premiums written in a year or the number of policies sold. Here we look at the 10 largest insurance companies based on market capitalization, market share, and revenue. KEY POINTS Insurance companies are important players in the global financial economy, although they are not as flashy as investment banks or hedge funds. Insurance companies vary in size and specialize in different lines of insurance, from health to life to property and casualty. Market capitalization, or market cap, is the value of a company's outstanding shares. Some insurance companies are jointly owned, meaning that the policyholders are the owners.

I'm disturbed to read that construction workers "hold it" all day while working? That is a very dangerous practice, as it could cause serious bladder and kidney issues down the line. Please people - when the guys arrive, show them where the bathroom is, and tell them to use it if they need it!

Have always offered beverages to any tradies that had to come to the house and made a point to let them know that they were welcome to use the downstairs toilet next to the laundry so that they did not have to worry about taking off boots etc. I would also offer use of the shower in the laundry if they needed and always kept a few towels and basic toiletries. Most were shocked that I was that "nice". The only time I objected to a tradie using a bathroom was one guy that I showed where the downstairs toilet was etc etc and left him to the job as I was doing some housework. I come back to where the inside bathroom is to find the tradie CROUCHED on the toilet seat, in his boots, with the door open pooping his guts out. Full noises and stench that was eye-watering. He saw me and just kept going. I retreated in horror. After another 10 mins and then 5 of silence I dared to go check. He had gone back out and left the toilet unflushed, poop and boot marks on the seat and 3 rolls of TP gone

Again, what an disgusting piece of crap he is! That was absolutely disgusting and what an absolutely ignorant pos of a "man", especially after you had been so nice and courteous to them from the beginning with ALLOWING them to use your facilities INCLUDING your shower!!! I seriously don't understand how someone can treat someone and their property like that. I am soooooo sorry you ended up dealing with that piece of crap so-called human! When I was working for a large retailer we had guys that had to deliver furniture. One day my supervisor gets a call from a woman who is highly upset because the driver asked if he could use her bathroom which she agreed to let him do but then he went" number two "not number one! She proceeded to tell him how it was now going to take her hours to clean her bathroom and how distraught she was. What did she expect the bathroom was supposed to be used for? We had another driver who was having stomach issues that day and needed badly to use a bathroom in a client's home when he asked he was informed she didn't care if he pooped his pants but she was not going to let him use her bathroom. I used to be a community nurse. While using a client’s loo was not my first choice (it just felt a little “line cross-y”) sometimes it is necessary (especially when I was pregnant). My employer didn’t love it (possible OHS issues) and also didn’t love us accepting coffee etc., but left it to our professional judgement to make our own decision in the time and place. Almost all of the tradies we have ever had in our complex would run put to the road to use the MacDonalds when they needed, but I had one your chappie who my son had been watching closely for a week come and ask to you mine and I was VERY happy to oblige. Because he is a human and so am I.

As a delivery driver for over a decade now, (I've driven USPS, FedEx, a handful of non profits, Amazon, DoorDash, GrubHub), I will say that it's often very hard to find a restroom, and since coffee is a big part of staying alert most days...yeah, it's a problem. I usually use restrooms at businesses if I can but I had a furniture delivery and set up gig that had me in ppls houses for longer periods of time and never had anyone seem to mind when I asked to use the restroom. When I did a FedEx route with almost no businesses I kept a disposable container for emergency peeing in the truck, the back of my truck locked from the inside for some reason so I could just lock myself back there, take care of business, then be on my way. I hated it, but made it work. Moral: if someone is working on your home for more than thirty minutes, letting them know they're welcome to use the bathroom is awesome. If you are a business and a delivery driver asks, let them even if it's not for customers.

Signed up 4 policies in one day! That all your fellow coworker heard and somebody felt like you were gonna take top spot in the competition so they pulled strings and got her booted out of the winners circle! NEVER tell your coworker/competitors your wins or loses... Just say "it was a good day" every time they ask and do not elaborate. They will want you to say more but just turn around and do whatever you were gonna do so they know your done with that conversation.

This isn't adding up. Firstly, you can't FORCE employees to drink or eat anything. You can't even make it "policy". Secondly, you cannot deny an employee the right to relieve themselves when necessary and firing them over something like that is just BEGGING for a wrongful termination suit. Working in law, I can tell you there is definitely more to this than OP is saying, if ANY of it is true. I'm actually putting together a suit as we speak for a client who worked for a 3rd party delivery service for a huge online store, and one of the particulars in the suit involves the owners trying to restrict and deny their delivery people the opportunity to use the bathroom when needed. This is the kind of thing state's attorney's offices don't play around with. So...I'm not buying this story.

You'd be surprised what kind of messed up rules companies will make. I got wrongfully terminated after the company I worked for made a rule on day that if you took a day off without a two week advanced notice or it wasn't a medical emergency, it would be counted as an absence even if you had hours to use. So apparently getting needed sleep after nearly 24 hours of NO sleep is seen as a sin.

Laughs.

My mom would even feed workers like renovators when they were working in our house for many hours Also what the f**k is that rule about accepting coffee?
