We all have a friend or two who can’t upload a photo on Instagram or Facebook without first photoshopping it so much that you no longer recognize them. That tells you a lot about how society’s obsession with body image is spurred on by the availability of photo editing technologies. On the other hand, we’ve also got pals who aren’t afraid to show the world their natural beauty and love goofing about.
On the ‘Instagram Reality’ subreddit, you often get examples of people who go overboard with editing photos. But once in a while, you get examples of blissful people who love their bodies with all their (im)perfections, show how even an Instagram influencer can look like a blob if the angle’s slightly wrong, and that there’s nothing wrong with that.

It takes a lot of guts to put a pic of yourself on instagram that you don't like or that you are ashamed of. That said the makeup in the real picture is just not flattering. It would look bad even on flawless skin. It's too dark, too many weird shadows (like above the lip) and the eyes - nope that's just not a good look for anyone. And let's face it the highlighter highlights all the wrong things. A lighter shade of foundation, a good base and less contouring would do wonders.
Me too. It looks ridiculous… women that do those eyebrows on themselves (or have it done by anyone) look horrible. They don’t even flatter their facial features. LOL 😂

You are correct, but there is a limit to what one needs to put out there for others to see. EDIT: especially when they post extremely photoshopped photos to boost their “cred”!!!

As someone who has been into photography and photo restoration for 35 years, I have to say that the person who posted these pictures intentionally increased the photo on the right's levels, decreased its gamma, and probably ran a burn filter on it---all to make the dark areas look darker. It was probably bc she realized there wasn't enough difference between the two pictures without doing that. Pretty ridiculous when the whole comparison is supposedly to demonstrate the pitfalls of filtering--but she had to filter the "unfiltered" picture just to make her point. 😒
But, she has lipstick, brows shadow above and below eyes. I don't understand how this is natural. Please explain what I am misunderstanding. Thanks!

Why are women considered "brave" if they show how they look without make up and filters, and show their "imperfect" bodies (healthy body is NEVER imperfect btw)? Why there are never ever any men that are considered "brave" for showing how they "really" look like? I never got this. I get what you are going to say but I am kinda sick of women trying to prove that they are beautiful even if they don't look like models. You don't owe to be pretty to the world. Your beuty is in everyone who loves you and in yourself not in your, by only Hollywood measures, "imperfect" bodies. You are fine, you don't have to prove anything to the whole world outthere.

This post makes me feel better about myself. After losing 65 pounds I have some loose skin, and still have some cellulite. I felt damaged when looking at myself, like I was a pretend thin person in a way. Glad to see lots of real women looking like me vs the ideal.

Well, you don't have to follow those kind of accounts where people mostly pose selfies and unrealistically beautiful (travel/lifestyle/sports) pictures. You can just follow normal people or painters, musicians, illustrators, film makers, cooks, or other artists! It's a choice, you know! ;-)

How I wish that the key to being gorgeous is not worrying about how people will react to what they see. For sure, almost everyone is secretly wishing that people, especially women, will stop posting fake-looking photos so that they can release an enormous breath of fresh air. I bet physically attractive women (like how social media depicts beauty) are not that happy with how they try to cover their "flaws" but women who are just plain happy with whatever they have will always be attractive.
It's just a new trend... One day someone showed unphotoshoped pics and got a round of applause, "How amazingly brave of her!". Now they all want to have a bit of that "Look, i am not perfect... How perfect is that!" Good looks, bad looks, people do everything to get attention x_x

I find this very interesting but also something that I realized a long time ago. However, I wonder why we always seem to focus on women and not share some of the pictures of men in similar situations? It would seem to me like the whole world is focused on how a woman looks, reality or not, but they forget the hard truths that men don't want to admit to in life as far as looks go and are not perfect either.
So an influencer who posts endless fake photos everyday, shows ONE with a few pimples, and a couple of belly rolls, and all is forgiven?! This "damage control" is too little, too late

Surely there is also more to men? Those who don't cover up there stretch marks or scars or pores are inspirational and beautiful. People are allowed to put on makeup. Not all of it hides who we are.
