Delivery Person Followed Her Instincts And Ended Up Saving A Customer From A Gas Leak In His House
Some people strongly believe in having a “sixth sense” or very strong intuition about certain situations, having in mind that very often, that weird feeling people have inside them actually proves that something is wrong, encourages others to believe in their inner self and either be more aware of their surroundings or back out from the situation completely. Very often, such careful evaluation of events can save someone’s life. At least that’s what happened to TikTok user @jessicahiggs3 who is a delivery worker at a grocery delivery company called Instacart.

In the video, Jessica shared that after she goes to a certain place, she has to leave the order and take a picture of it, revealing that workers are forbidden to go inside the house. So the woman went to leave the order and the man came to the door. Instead of leaving, she decided to help him with his groceries because she was convinced that something was wrong and that the man looked sick. So she went inside and helped him out, now sure that he didn’t feel very well.
When she was dropping off the delivery, she felt that something was wrong with this man, so she decided to help him

Jessica noticed that there was a propane tank there, and she herself felt dizzy, so she notified the woman who made the order about a possible gas leak. The woman then said that she would get her son to come and see what was the issue.

Share on FacebookI'm sure the rule is there to protect the Instacart workers from having to go into a house in a creepy situation that makes them uncomfortable, but I'm also glad she trusted her instinct that this was the proper time to break the rule. I hope her supervisors recognize that as well.
To protect both customers and workers from actual abuse and accusations of abuse, theft, etc. 100% correct to go beyond rules like this when there are concerns for someone's safety.

i did a similar thing when i was a lot younger. Went to visit a neighbor and her daughter as her husband was working offshore. Both of them we acting like they had the flu. I suffer from asthma and i was having problems breathing after a short period in the home. I pleaded with her to call the gas board as something did not feel right. I went back home and told my mum what had happened. She rang the neighbor to check on them, The neighbor told my mum that they had turned the gas off for the house and opened all the windows and they were starting to feel a little better. She called the gas company out that night and found that there was a problem with the gas fridge, it was pumping carbon monoxide into the house. If they had gone to bed that night they would not have woken up. Sometimes feeling are right.
This has me wondering if Instagram fired her for breaking the rules, or if they recognize just how much better their company looks for not only not firing her, but applauding and rewarding her instead.
I'm so glad that she trusted her instincts. My postman often used to know I was unwell before my carers did. He'd been on my route for years and on this occasion stated to me that I really seemed unwell. I was on day four of new medication and ended up with paramedics rushing me to hospital very soon soon afterwards because I should never have been put on them and they were making me seriously ill. I was taken off the meds. I moved away and my old postman is now a friend 😊 Several of my postmen looked out for me thanks to him which was wonderful. Sadly here I never see the postmen who deliver and its quite isolating as they really used to make my day.
I'm hoping she gets a bonus from Instacart. Instead of fired. Is everyone aware that Instacart is a Trump Funder? I canceled when I found out.
Interesting fact: if you see vultures circling over a particular house or area, there might be a gas leak. They are attracted to the odor added by the gas company (mercaptan). Source: https://www.birdnote.org/listen/shows/turkey-vultures-and-gas-pipelines
Instacart people are amazing. My own dad cannot shop anymore, and my sister does the ordering for him. We are SO thankful there are people willing to help others out in this way - it is literally a lifesaver in and of itself. And thank you Jessica for listening to that prompting that something was wrong, and saving this man's life from poisoning.
I know your mum and dad must be so very proud of you and I hope you're very proud of yourself for being a kind hearted and good human being- we need more people like you in this world. God bless your heart
Definitely not "just" an Instacart worker. Instacart has been a lifesaver for me during the past 2 years. I am in end stage renal failure and waiting for a kidney. I'm very high risk for sickness and not having to go to the grocery store has been amazing because of Instacart! Yes, I'm fully vaccinated and boosted, but I just can't risk being around other people. So thank you Instacart workers - you are VERY important!!!
I think we all know that the increased tip was then last thing on her mind but I'm sure she can use it.
had a feeling once that things were going to turn sour........ they didn't. had a feeling once that someone was following me....... so ran away and assumed I was right and every time I've told story I've made sure i've let it be known i'd deffo be dead if i'd not ran away. had a feeling once that someone had walked over my grave only a few years after I'd dreamed something nearly almost similar...
I agree 100%. I've done delivery jobs off and on for the past 32 years. I have stories like this too. Just be a good human and do unto others. Especially when someone's health of safety could be in question.
Delivery drivers are very often the only human contact too many people have these days don't ever put 'only' before your job title, I only wish you were not pushed to deliver so many items in a day.
Jessica, always listen to that voice. Its people like you that show there is a hope for a future.
