The billionaire population not only surged during the pandemic with the record total of super rich reaching an unprecedented 2,755, their fortunes also boomed. The numbers reached highs that were previously deemed impossible to achieve in a single lifetime.

Think of Tesla’s Elon Musk, who grew his fortune from $25bn to more than $150bn. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person for the 4th year running, worth $177 billion, up $64 billion from a year ago as a result of surging Amazon shares. Today, according to this recent report, billionaires are wealthier than half the planet.

No wonder that so many people see the whole situation as disturbing and unfair, hence this Reddit community that observes, analyzes and discusses the insanely super rich. Welcome to “Greed Incorporated,” the relatively new subreddit created in 2021 that gathered people who just can’t sit and stay silent about greed with no limits. Below we wrapped up some of the most eye-opening and disturbing posts shared here.

I don't think a million dollars by itself goes as far these days. Perhaps billions of dollars?

Then, after your fortune drops to the ground and is lost, you get to find out just how truly f****d up your advice to the rest of us to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” really is, because you’re the one having to do it now. Good f*****g luck, a*****e.

You're a Fortune 500 company looking for a boss. You want to hire the best. How are you going to tempt them away from their current job? Free cookies?

What makes you think they're hiring the best? If they were genuinely interested in that then it wouldn't matter whether they knew the candidate's family, or bekinged to the same country club, or were alums of the same college. The idea that these jobs are handed out on merit is preposterous.

I understand that the CEO making millions of dollars did something to earn that; created something, led a huge team to success, understood problems better than others, etc. I have no problem with someone getting rich from that. And I don't want to take from anyone who is. Congrats to them! But there should be a law when you own a company your workforce should make enough to comfortably live within 5 miles of where they're required to come to work every day. If I work in Boston, I shouldn't have to drive 2 hours to and from work because I can't afford to live there. No one will care how much the ceo makes if they aren't miserable, and can afford a mortgage or their rent no problem. But 15 an hour is not enough when you live in NYC or a major city center so it's not enough to make a federal min wage. What works in Arkansas may not work in California. There should be a living wage amendment. Be a zillionaire, I don't care. But don't make me choose between food and rent.

That's cool until they devalue everything they own... you'll have millionaires living around the same area buying each other's property for about a fraction of the actual cost, now the middle income family with a home has that home value fall even lower to a point where they can't actually use it as leverage to get a loan or anything like that

The anti-poverty charity Oxfam reported that the world's 10 richest men had their wealth doubled, from $700 billion to $1.5 trillion, during the pandemic, a mindblowing rate equal to $15,000 per second. Nine of the planet’s 10 richest people are Americans.

According to Irit Tamir, the director of Oxfam's private sector development, the wealth gap is nothing new, but its new record heights are nothing economists have seen or imagined before. "The gap between the rich and the poor was increasing even before the pandemic started. But the pandemic supercharged this in a whole host of ways."

What’s The Biggest Culprit In The Loss Of Democracy In The USA, #followthemoney Of Greed, Lobbying, & Oligarchy. Help Progressive Democrats Orgs & Policy

Beanz27 Report

Tamir argues that in terms of the wealth gap, "We are in an even more outrageous situation than we were last year or the year before." He added in an interview for CBS News that "Wealth is begetting wealth, and it becomes exponential.” The director of Oxfam’s private sector development said that he fears by next year, those numbers will only continue to increase and that gap will only widen. Moreover, in Oxfam's view, rising inequality poses risks to billions of people across the world, who aren't sharing in the same gains in wealth and may be cut off from equal access to health care, vaccines and economic opportunity.

Meanwhile, Abigail Disney, a spokeswoman for higher taxes on the rich and better wages for workers, believes that inequality is widening after years of weakened support for unions and changes in regulations that were meant to protect ordinary Americans. Lawmakers have cut taxes on the richest earners since the 1980s with the idea they would use the extra income to create jobs and economic opportunity, yet research has found that hasn't happened—and the tax cuts only helped the rich.

Disney wrote in the report: "Society was riddled with cracks when we started this pandemic—cracks which have widened into fault lines. There is more than enough money to solve most of the world's problems. It's just being held in the hands of millionaires and billionaires who aren't paying their fair share."

Why not both ? You can't struggle to improve society if you are already struggling to survive. That's the 2 legs of the unions: one to improve every day live, the other to improve society.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Socialism isn't a dirty word. It does not mean equal shares for all, but it does mean pooling your resources to benefit all. And it works in most places where it's really properly implemented.

All three hosts manage to be incredibly funny while diving into the court cases that keep wealth and power in the hands of the rich, keep marginalized groups marginalized, and the just generally crass and evil decisions they've handed down. Highly recommend it

I’m convinced most people don’t know what socialism means. Socialism ain’t Communism. A Capitalist society filled with some socialist policies is always amazing. The only time socialism is bad is when it devolves into Communism. Communism has never worked, but Capitalist societies with plenty of socialist policies rule.

I remember my boyfriend's last employer made a 300% above-target profit and growth increase in one year (while he, along with others, was working 12 hours a day and received a daily sneer from their boss). Their reward was a one-time bonus of 750 euros, that they would only receive if they weren't sick too often.
