Yep this is true. No one can earn a billion dollars by working, but you can earn a billion dollars by making money off of other people

The Inhumans of Late Capitalism page (not to be confused with the Humans of Late Capitalism social media accounts which is a similar but entirely different horse entirely) has over 178.6k followers, all eagerly waiting for the next juicy post making fun of our dystopian everyday lives.

As many of you have probably realized by now, capitalism is far from a perfect system. But what’s the alternative? Does one even exist? Anyone who’s ever opened up a history book knows that communism isn’t an alternative—it’s just a more brutal dystopia that resulted in the deaths of millions of people. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

However, things might not be as grim nowadays as we think. For instance, Paul Mason writes in The Guardian that we might be entering the postcapitalist era without even noticing it. The forces driving this are information technology, the rise of the sharing economy, and new ways of working. Mason’s point of view is refreshing because he paints a bright and sunny picture of the future, instead of one where we’re all doomed and fighting global warming, zombies, and the plague on all fronts.

According to Mason, information technology has reduced the need for work, blurred the “edges between work and free time,” and “loosened the relationship between work and wages.” The amount we have to work will further diminish as automation increases. But that’ll still take a while because our way of thinking has yet to catch up with the power of robotics.

Mason also states that we’re “seeing the spontaneous rise of collaborative production: goods, services, and organizations are appearing that no longer respond to the dictates of the market and the managerial hierarchy. The biggest information product in the world—Wikipedia—is made by volunteers for free, abolishing the encyclopedia business and depriving the advertising industry of an estimated $3bn a year in revenue.”

In other words, we’re seeing various new forms of work, ownership, and businesses that will (in the long run) change our society as we know it. But whether or not it’ll be a postcapitalist society or something else entirely, we’ll find out in a few decades.

Hmm it's good to set boundaries for your kids en give them a sense of responsibility. But not in the way you are proposing mr Coach-dad wich sons and daughters are probably real sad en feel no self worth because you give them the feeling they are never good enough for your approval.

This is probably the case where Chinese people buy shirts that say words in English without them knowing what it means, because English is considered cool. There's plenty of pictures of Chinese children wearing shirts that day obscene things

F**k that. F**k that big time. My daughter can spend as little or as much on her education as she needs. She may "work for you" at some point. But she did that for HERSELF.

We are not the ones who should be guilt-tripped about student fees. Aim that guilt squarely at politicians.

Don't forget her family and friends also own loan servicing companies. It is in DIRECT best interest to not forgive any loans. As government employee I took my job partly because of PSLF. If you take that away from me, I'll go work for private industry instead.

This is actually an ad for a company that helps employers help their employees pay down their student loans. (I only know this from googling Gradifi, the name under the thumb -- no pun intended.) I don't know what kind of company Gradifi is morally, but it sounds like they're trying to do something positive, so I don't think this one belongs here. (Unless, of course, they're ultimately just profiting off indebted students and their employers.)

Good to know, that says something in itself that a company could be such a good thing or such a bad thing and it’s unclear even after you do your research

This one is SO messed up. With US non existing health care. I am so sad for you guys. We All contribute via taxes so our families have right to both education up to university degree and universal, non limited healtcare.

My daughter, who is a director in an environmental activist organization, thought about pursuing a PhD, but realized that the boost in salary and position would never offset the expense. Not enough ROI for what is essentially a piece of paper and a blurb after your name.

Ok I went to a local university, worked full time, ate instant noodles, made coffee at home (not Starbucks), wore cheap clothes (no Ugg boots), and finished college with a very small student loan. Paid off my student loan in 3 yrs after college. Now I drink, eat, wear and buy whatever I want because I can. Have you seen college kids nowadays? They wear UGG boots, holding Starbucks drinks & study at Starbucks instead of the library or somewhere else, drive fancy cars and take nice vacations...all in student loans. They deserve what coming to them. As a taxpayer, I refuse to help them out.

I mean they aren't lying. I started a job as a contract worker, they said I needed my degree in order to get in permanent. I finished school and got my degree. Them: "We're having budget issues and won't be doing any hiring for the foreseeable future..."

I couldn't afford to go to university so I just don't feel sorry for those who do and get themselves into debt over their heads. As a taxpayer I don't want my taxes going to those who couldn't afford it, went anyway and are now whining about being in debt. Sorry if that's not politically correct but they need to suck it up, get a job and get on with paying off THEIR debt. It's called taking responsibility for one's actions.

Poor thing. In Russia you can study at university for free after passing exams, if you failed with state-funded places, then you can pay not a huge sum (but it depends on university) for a commercial place (but after some exams too), so there is no loans for education.

I honestly respect your Doctorate in Egyptology, and if you’re into literature we can have long discussions late into the evening, but this is just a taco cart. $14/hr and we split the tips.

If you have a problem working for someone else because of the tuition you payed for school, or for any other reason, then work for yourself. And if you don't want to be saddled with student loan debt then don't borrow money. No one forces you to do these things; take responsibility for your own actions.

Yes, take responsibility for trying to get an education after high school and not being able to pull tuition money out of thin air. I am 13 years old and I now realize that my life goals are horrible and my new plan is to employ myself as a space, oxygen, and food consumer and make millions of dollars. Thank you so much for helping me to realize the error of my ways and realize that nobody is forcing me to breathe or eat and that I just thought I had to because that is what everyone else did. Well I’m about to pass out so I guess I’l....

Puccino's is well known for its often self-deprecating humour. From an advertising point of view it seems to be successful.
