Yep this is true. No one can earn a billion dollars by working, but you can earn a billion dollars by making money off of other people

The Inhumans of Late Capitalism page (not to be confused with the Humans of Late Capitalism social media accounts which is a similar but entirely different horse entirely) has over 178.6k followers, all eagerly waiting for the next juicy post making fun of our dystopian everyday lives.

As many of you have probably realized by now, capitalism is far from a perfect system. But what’s the alternative? Does one even exist? Anyone who’s ever opened up a history book knows that communism isn’t an alternative—it’s just a more brutal dystopia that resulted in the deaths of millions of people. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

However, things might not be as grim nowadays as we think. For instance, Paul Mason writes in The Guardian that we might be entering the postcapitalist era without even noticing it. The forces driving this are information technology, the rise of the sharing economy, and new ways of working. Mason’s point of view is refreshing because he paints a bright and sunny picture of the future, instead of one where we’re all doomed and fighting global warming, zombies, and the plague on all fronts.

According to Mason, information technology has reduced the need for work, blurred the “edges between work and free time,” and “loosened the relationship between work and wages.” The amount we have to work will further diminish as automation increases. But that’ll still take a while because our way of thinking has yet to catch up with the power of robotics.

Mason also states that we’re “seeing the spontaneous rise of collaborative production: goods, services, and organizations are appearing that no longer respond to the dictates of the market and the managerial hierarchy. The biggest information product in the world—Wikipedia—is made by volunteers for free, abolishing the encyclopedia business and depriving the advertising industry of an estimated $3bn a year in revenue.”

In other words, we’re seeing various new forms of work, ownership, and businesses that will (in the long run) change our society as we know it. But whether or not it’ll be a postcapitalist society or something else entirely, we’ll find out in a few decades.

Hmm it's good to set boundaries for your kids en give them a sense of responsibility. But not in the way you are proposing mr Coach-dad wich sons and daughters are probably real sad en feel no self worth because you give them the feeling they are never good enough for your approval.

So at least where I grew up kids started sports really early on, like there was a five year old kid on the swim team going to practice with middle schoolers young, and it had it’s ups and downs. Ups, we made a lot of friends and had a lot of good experiences. Downs, everything that wasn’t related to sports got bumped down on the priority list. There was a girl in my scout troop who couldn’t support her friend at her MOM’S FUNERAL because she had a dance recital. I understand that that’s a big deal but if you get invited to a funeral by your scout sister that’s a big deal

Being tough doesn't mean you can yell at a kid, ridicule them in front of others and destroy their self esteem. Being tough is being firm, teaching kids that things like disappointment and failure happen in life, teaching them to try their best and pushing them a little if you know they're not trying hard enough because they're insecure

Being tough on children is not equal to 'destroying their self esteem'. Maybe it does feel so if you are not used to boundaries, but this doesn't make the statement in above picture less true.

I love how everyone jumps to the "bubble wrap my kid" worst case scenario here. This sign doesn't mean that your kid is going to get yelled at, belittled, or beaten. I coach higher level hockey for young kids (9 - 12). The uncoachable thing is true, and I told all parents I will be tough on the kids. But this doesn't mean what everyone is suddenly jumping to and assuming. It means, that I am teaching a drill, or running a drill and one of the kids is not paying attention to the group, or fooling around in the corner, or bugging another kid. Then they will have to skate a lap or two before they can come back to the drill. If they are really bad or I am having real issues with them not listening to instructions then they will sit either a period or an entire game if needed. Guess what! This is also how it is in the real world. You don't want to do your job properly, or goof off during work hours, you are going to get sent home or fired. That's just the reality of it! Teach em now

I actually like this one. And it should be paired with the one for the parents that says "There are no scouts here, no scholarships will be handed out. The coach and umpires are all volunteers. It's just a game. So stay calm or you will be asked to leave."

There's nothing wrong with this, we can't keep giving kids participation ribbons. You have to learn that you're going to have to work and earn things.

Took my parents forever to figure this out: there's a fine line between motivational drill seargent/coach and emotional/psychological abuse.

Being terrorized by an authority figure does not build character. Said authority figure abusing their authority is nothing but traumatizing to a child. And to an adult, for that matter. We don’t all respond to that strategy.

Holding someone to high standards is not terrorizing them. Sheesh. Your kids probably need this coaching scenario.

Literally everyone here missing the point, of course. It’s not about parenting, geniuses. This is about capitalism, remember the theme of the post you are currently reading. Nobody gives a s**t how you parent your trashy baby. No company should be advertising by suggesting that a person’s value lies in how EMPLOYABLE someone is. Humans aren’t meant to grow into employees.

There is a difference between spoiling a child and being abusive or too harsh on them. My cousin is giving a generous allowance despite her mom (my aunt) having financial difficulties and being 20 years old. On the other hand, my other cousin once got reprimanded for breaking her arm trying to get to the bathroom after lights out at her boarding school... life IS tough

Meanwhile, it's the parents who are abusing their children, not the coaches. The parents who believe their kids are their meal-tickets out of mediocrity. Little Billy can be the next Tom Brady if I force him...

It's one thing to be tough on kids in the correct way. They need that but unfortunately many people go about that in a way that is destructive and down right abusive. You can be tough on kids and teach them lessons in life without destroying their self esteem and making them feel like nothing they do is ever going to be enough. Praise is a necessity just as much as direction, guidance, love, patience, wtc acceptanceatiemce, etc.

I guess I wouldn't care for this if they were talking about kids under 14 or so (although the damage could already be done by then, if the parents are totally clueless), but students will be heading for college, jobs, trade schools, etc. Will all those things come with no judgment about their work ethics?

One of my best friends at 31 years old is my high school hockey coach. He taught me so much and made me an even better person than player. 99% of coaches are like this but you only ever hear about the 1% that ruin it.

Coaches should take it easy on kids because sports are about exercise and having fun not winning and everyone should get a trophy because we're all winners.

So your boss doesnt coach you? Being coached means you receive guidance and everyone needs to do that well. I just think you arent athletic, but that doesnt mean you are not coachable.
