The Inhumans of Late Capitalism page (not to be confused with the Humans of Late Capitalism social media accounts which is a similar but entirely different horse entirely) has over 178.6k followers, all eagerly waiting for the next juicy post making fun of our dystopian everyday lives.
As many of you have probably realized by now, capitalism is far from a perfect system. But what’s the alternative? Does one even exist? Anyone who’s ever opened up a history book knows that communism isn’t an alternative—it’s just a more brutal dystopia that resulted in the deaths of millions of people. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
However, things might not be as grim nowadays as we think. For instance, Paul Mason writes in The Guardian that we might be entering the postcapitalist era without even noticing it. The forces driving this are information technology, the rise of the sharing economy, and new ways of working. Mason’s point of view is refreshing because he paints a bright and sunny picture of the future, instead of one where we’re all doomed and fighting global warming, zombies, and the plague on all fronts.
Not for people for whom it's the only source of income in a rural area. Unfortunately, corporations are getting a serf class in the new US economy.
Load More Replies...My organization makes arrangements with a local hotel so dining hall and snow-clearing staff can stay for free near work if severe weather (hurricane or freezing rain) is on the way. Why can't a ski resort set up a dorm or something for their staff? The tone of the note is really demoralizing and I would be looking somewhere else for a job.
You would think a place like this SHOULD plan for employees quarters!!! What in the actual f**k.
Mark needs to be fired for even suggesting this. I had a boss one time that expected me to continue working after accidentally burning two of my fingers in the fry vat at McDonalds. When he tried to say "Why are you leaving? Can't you work?" I said "Chris..go stick your hand in the oil vat and tell me if you feel like working afterwards or do you feel like going to the emergency room!!" He shut up and left me alone.
My husband was once a manager for a pizza joint the owner of which insisted stay open during a hurricane. The owner wouldn't let anybody leave. My husband refused to let any of his staff deliver pizzas and did it himself. We nearly lost him that night. A tree fell on his car and he suffered a head injury. The owner still didn't shut down the store until it lost power.
What kind of person orders food during a hurricane and expects it to be delivered...?!
Load More Replies...The problem is that these sorts of businesses rely on the simple fact that most of their employees don't know or understand the labor laws. In the US the majority of this is illegal and they could be fined a large sum of money if not shut down as well. No one is exempt from a State of Emergency. People need to educate themselves in the labor laws for federal, state, county and city.
Explain how “the majority of this is illegal”. It even states they are exempt from emergency shutdown. I’m not attacking; I am asking.
Load More Replies...I can understand the need to keep the resort employed. However, safety comes first. If it is too dangerous too travel and the company knows it will be too dangerous to travel, then they need to accommodate their employees with both housing and additional pay for their time.
Dear Mark... Look outside in the snow for my response to this declaration. You won't be able to miss it... Bright yellow writing punctuated by pieces of my uniform.
I'd get a job there just for the pleasure of quitting. What an asshat!
Load More Replies...Wow, that's f****d up. If you offer for your staff to stay, you need to provide some sort of accomodations for them, the hospital does it for us with bad weather
Ugh, not for the hospital I work at. We are expected to be there even if it means coming in two days early - without pay. We must also bring our own linens and food (the rest is for patients and family/visitors only...this is understandable, though), I had to sleep in my car the last time I worked during a snowstorm - no extra rooms as the place was booked solid (my fault honestly). No critical care pay or overtime. Unfortunately that's becoming the norm now. At least I work at a hospital though, not some resort!

Yea FU supply bed pillow and blanket + food if you expect this bull sht for a barely livable wage
S****y place, Sugarloaf and Sunday River have accommodations for employees that are free during bad weather
Where is this place so I can never ever go there?? Also, Trip Advisor STAT.
Massachusetts. Monika Soffronow mentions it upthread: Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort Hancock, MA, USA
Load More Replies...Pretty sure this is illegal. If you require staff during an emergency, you need to accommodate them. Often people work in hospitality out of necessity, they can't afford to quit, these arseholes know that.
Yeah, mine would be, "How many labour lawyers do you think you'll be talking to after this? Just asking for a friend."
Load More Replies...Had to look up jiminy peak, thought it was Vail. People who work in resorts CANNOT generally afford to live there. Including your ski instructors, waitstaff at restaurants, hotel staff. Realize that when you spend that $200 on a lift ticket. The frontline staff, not even maintenance or housekeeping ( that’s a whole level lower) are getting enough to live a day like you do.
Yup. And these a*****e employers are telling them to essentially risk their lives by forcing them to come in to work during a potential state emergency, insisting they find some way, ANY way, to get in to work, offering them NO accommodations except probably sleeping on the f*****g floor of a big reception/dining hall, no blankets, or food while they're there, slaving away for the guests that are paying out those expensive ticket prices... This is a place I'd report for labour violations in a f*****g HEARTBEAT for SO many things. People like this make me want to PUKE.
Load More Replies...Any idea what "Fischer" or "Clark" might be? Names of rooms, like a dining room for example ??
Fisher Room and Clark Room are both located on the second floor of The Country Inn at Jiminy Peak in Massachusetts. They are often used as reception location. Fisher accommodates up to 130 guests, Clark up to 40 guests.
Load More Replies...I don't know what establishment this is in Jiminy, but they should provide employee accommodations in the event of heavy snowfall so travel risks can be avoided. Any questions? "Mark, why are you a dummy?"
Isn"t this a ski resort? It seems that in that case they *should* make sure all the staff arrives in case of a snowstorm that will make thousands of the guests stranded in the place.
It's made even worse by the bad English. Accommodation is an uncountable noun.
It's a ski area here in the Berkshires. Our local economy has a huge split between the wealthy second-home owners and the people that feed, entertain and clean up after them.
Load More Replies...I worked at a ski resort for half a season.. the place I worked at had a shuttle bus at least to get workers up and down the mountain. No I never missed work, and if I had, a whole lot of other folks would have also
Only emergency personnel are required to work no matter what. This mostly includes federally employed. Other than that they can't make you come to work if it isn't safe.
A friend in the brokerage biz is required to live within 3 miles of work. No excuses indeed
Honestly, I understand that guests need looking after and shouldn't suddenly find themselves almost alone in a big hotel. But if there was decent management a) the staff would be invested in doing the best by the guests naturally and b) management would arrange accommodation or find ways to help staff get into work. Everyone would automatically want to work together for the same ends. This is horrible management and my heart goes out to the staff and the guests.
On the face of it, a truly heartless and brutal diktat, but when you understand that Jiminy is a skiing resort it begins to look rather ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that the staff would be well aware of the travel issues caused by snow!
I actually agree, snow is not an excuse if you live and work where it use to snow. You have a car with winter tires so you travel safe on the roads.
Knowing you'll be snowed-in at work for an unknown number of days, do you leave for work or stay with your kids.
Load More Replies...According to Mason, information technology has reduced the need for work, blurred the “edges between work and free time,” and “loosened the relationship between work and wages.” The amount we have to work will further diminish as automation increases. But that’ll still take a while because our way of thinking has yet to catch up with the power of robotics.
Mason also states that we’re “seeing the spontaneous rise of collaborative production: goods, services, and organizations are appearing that no longer respond to the dictates of the market and the managerial hierarchy. The biggest information product in the world—Wikipedia—is made by volunteers for free, abolishing the encyclopedia business and depriving the advertising industry of an estimated $3bn a year in revenue.”
In other words, we’re seeing various new forms of work, ownership, and businesses that will (in the long run) change our society as we know it. But whether or not it’ll be a postcapitalist society or something else entirely, we’ll find out in a few decades.
Hmm it's good to set boundaries for your kids en give them a sense of responsibility. But not in the way you are proposing mr Coach-dad wich sons and daughters are probably real sad en feel no self worth because you give them the feeling they are never good enough for your approval.
When youre at home all day playing games and your mom tells you to go play outside 🤡
do not buy from a company thats owned by a man who hoards billions! wealth should be distributed!!
WTF is wrong with the people who make these posters lol
Puccino's is well known for its often self-deprecating humour. From an advertising point of view it seems to be successful.

Over half of these have little to nothing to do with capitalism, and almost all of the posts are people just whining about modern society.
I don't know which one is more depressive, the post or the some comments here. Many people can't even dream a better world anymore. Even after seeing all these obviously unacceptable examples first thing they do is to take time a try to advocate "business". Even that student loan advertisement should be enough to stfu with your "business is good" b******t for a moment. Just shut up for a moment!! This is coming from a recent graduate with 30k education debt. You know, kind of a debt many of you were not familiar in your college years.
Um, socialism has quite the dark side as well if you do your research.
And all aspects of that can be trickled down to capitalism. If you mean communism, then I will agree with you there. No great power should be given to one person, or a group of persons. Socialism is a community effort though. If you are talking about failures in socialized medicine, then that can all be attributed to certain people wanting to make profit on medicine (capitalism) and influencing the government through funding...

Capitalism literally rewards people for meeting other people's needs. Socialism brings whole nations into poverty. You probably thinking of 'consumerism', not 'capitalism'.

Yep. You simply can't want a better life for yourself or the people around you. Also stop using the word "triggered" for such a minor complaint please.

You shouldn't use lazy comparisons to try to prove a point. On the capitalistic/socialist spectrum the US is far more capitalistic than western Europe but the US has much worse corruption at this time. Full capitalism is just as bad as full socialism. You just don't realize that there aren't really any fully capitalistic countries that exist to compare to a full socialist country. The US, Western Europe, China and Japan all have a mix of socialism and capitalism. A good balance of the two is what works best right now.
