Even though in a sense, men and women are supposed to be somewhat similar to each other, sometimes the one and the only thing that bonds us together is the fact that we're both human beings. Of course, not everyone is as oblivious as some folks might be, yet encountering very audacious men is a frequent occurrence in a woman's life.
One of the best present-day "wonders" would probably be the mansplaining phenomenon. It's insane how many men find any opportunity to explain something to a woman in a condescending and overconfident way when, in fact, nobody even asked them to share any of their input. It's an issue that will probably be around for a while since society loves to presume that a woman is less knowledgeable, less skilled and desires to hear men's opinions 24/7.

Though this particular problem is not humorous whatsoever and many women have no other choice than to endure this kind of behavior on a daily basis, sometimes all we can do is look at it through a different perspective and just laugh. Thankfully, these days many men are extremely self-aware and actually love women, so, who knows, maybe in a couple of decades we can all co-exist peacefully.

This Twitter user decided to ask fellow women to share amusing examples of men mansplaining things that the women were quite aware of themselves. The post received 627 likes and heaps of comments revealing entertaining stories and discussing the nerve of some individuals.

The official definition of mansplaining is the explanation of something by a man, typically to a woman in a patronizing or condescending way. Essentially speaking, when men mansplain, what they do is they explain a certain topic assuming that a woman has either no obvious knowledge about it or she's significantly lacking in understanding.
Sadly, gender issues have been around for pretty much forever and most folks have been so sucked into our patriarchal society that they constantly feel the need to show their toxic power and to project it on others without even realizing that they're doing it – which is why a good deal of men don't actually get the meaning of "mansplaining".
I bet idiots like this think they're actually impressing the lady instead of realizing they're just showing their ass.
Even though it might feel like the term was invented fairly recently, mansplaining has definitely been around for a while, yet the actual word was inspired by an essay written by Rebecca Solnit that was published in 2008.
In the said essay, Rebecca shared a story that sort of provoked folks to actually name this behavior. It all happened at a party when a conversation arose between Solnit and a man who heard that she had previously written a few books. Rebecca began to talk about her recent publication when the man decided to cut her off, asking if she was aware of this interesting book that recently came out – which in fact was hers. Though the author didn't use the word "mansplaining" per se, she described the occurrence as "something every woman knows".
Despite many believing this term to be sexist, it doesn't change the fact that it constantly happens to women all over the world. Gender inequality exists and society has made it easier for men to get away with things like that. Though many argue that nowadays folks overuse the term, it's important not to assume that someone's overreacting and to never dismiss the person's feelings, as those rarely come from nothing.
However, a good deal of folks believe that womansplaining is also a legitimate thing. Presumably, it comes from entitled men who cannot apprehend the fact that they're wrong, so instead of dealing with the consequences, they come up with a term that'll help them justify their actions once again. Of course, everyone is equally required to behave like an actual human being – whether you're a woman or a man, it's your job to not be a jerk towards folks that live on the same planet as you – but it doesn't mean that male entitlement should be ignored.
The world is changing, we constantly progress and learn from each other. It's crucial to remember that everyone understands that it's not "all men", though the amount of unpleasantries women had and have to deal with to this day is very saddening. Our number-one priority as the people of this rather cruel world is to always listen to each other, never dismiss someone's emotions or feeling and to constantly learn in order to make our society a safer place for everyone.

Who knows, maybe soon enough we'll get to see the times when gender issues will finally disappear into thin air so that everyone can live in calmness and solidarity. It takes time to learn and to listen to each other's worries, so for now all that we can do is to voice our concerns and to occasionally laugh at threads similar to this one.
I had a woman cyclist come up behind me quite fast when I (a man) was cycling casually along a country lane. She hung back for a while, which I thought was odd because she was clearly going quicker than me, so after I while I said "You can come past you know!" and she explained that basically some men get cross or try to pedal faster or whatever when she overtakes them. How fragile must these egos be? Woman was in better shape than me and clearly a better cyclist, but held back because *I* might be offended.
Ahh so by your logic then gentlemen, if I'm a chef then anybody who enjoys food is allowed to tell me how to cook once I mention that? Is that correct?? I would love for you guys to mosey on up to any male chef and give him a few pointers, like maybe how to boil water, or scramble an egg. Kick rocks!

My wife knows a hell of lot more than I do about cars than I do (she and her dad rebilt a 57 Chevy Bel Aire together). Her dad is a retired mechanic and taught her well. I'll take her advice with no hesitation when the hood gets popped.
Baffling. A pregnant 18yo approached me at work - she was homeless, I'm a shelter worker - and asked me a question about pregnancy. I automatically asked her to talk to my coworker who A) has some training as a nurse, and B) has given birth. I was pretty sure I knew the answer to her question, but my coworker was more qualified to answer. I don't understand why anyone would pretend to have knowledge they don't have.
Did tech support for office electronics. We ladies used to joke that certain men call twice: 1) to tell us what was the problem and how to solve it (no matter what we said) 2) to actually listen to us Also, often enough we told a man what to do and he called again until he had our male colleague on the phone, to ask him the same question again. Male colleague hated that and usually ripped them a new one (politely).

When I read about guys explaining their fandom stuff, I just want to write it off as them being passionate about the topic and thinking they know more than ANYONE, not just women. I mean, I don't care who you are if you try to talk to me about my favorite thing that I obsess over daily, you're not going to convince me you know more. Fandom stuff can be consuming and you end up having the equivilant of a ph.d in the topic for all the time and effort you spend in it. But sometimes it's just super blatantly because they think a woman can't possibly know more than a guy. Like video games--- so many guys think women can't understand video games as well as them. It just makes no sense. What does my having a vagina have to do with my ability to play a game or understanding a fandom? Do men think that vaginas somehow control your brain.... OHHH wait. So because men's penises control their every thought maybe they think women operate the same way? Lol.

Yeah, apparently all those years of doctors and medicine and teachers were for nothing because, after just 30 minutes with my kid, this guy told me, "He's not autistic, he's just very needy and you're falling for it!" Oh dear, thirty-four years down the drain, why did nobody tell me?!

You really never know when you're going to run into mansplaining; sometimes it's over the stupidest things. I'm a really big fan of the Tintin so I wrote up a review aimed at others familiar with the comics that the Spielberg movie didn't do the best job trying to cram 3 comics into one movie. A former male friend I had at the time, who I took too long to realize didn't like letting me have an opinion, decided to berate me for it. Apparently he knew more than me because he read ONE Tintin comic and saw the movie. It was seriously stupid how much he wanted to tear me down for one little review.
While at college and majoring in neuroscience, a guy who had taken a total of zero bio or psych classes tried to explain to me how male and female brains are "different." When I told him that everything he was spouting ("Guys use the left side of their brain more." "Guys have fewer connections in the brain because they think more rigidly" etc) was utter nonsense, he tried to backpedal and say he meant it figuratively. As if these were abstract concepts and not quantifiable metrics
Yeah. It is very clear by now that men and women do not think differently. It is true that on average some areas develop more often in a way or other depending on the gender. But it is not due to sex but to gender roles. It is because brain developes according on how you use it, so people doing the same tend to have same brain structures. For example taxi drivers have extremely well developed hypocampus because of their jobs (dealing with space memory). One of my closest friends is a neurologist and yeah, you can estimate the gender of the person seing a brain scan but it is extremely unreliable. Same as you can assume that a short adult is a female because we tend to be shorter on average but that does not mean that you can identify the sex of the skeleton by its height.

Ugggh as a guy I wanna apologize for this behavior. My father is one of these guys and he will do this behavior to any race, gender, age, or education background. It's not the same but it does allow me at least a glimpse even if it's only through a small hole.

I had a rookie EMT school me on how to drive my ambulance. Loudly and in front of several other crews. I waited until he was done to respond. Before I could, my medic (a great guy) just looked at him and said, “she’s been an ambulance driver trainer longer than you’ve been alive.”
I'm not going to go into how often non legal men explain the law to me, a lawyer ( also in not so arrogant as to assume I know everything about the law, and I will certainly listen if, for example, an accountant explains tax law). One of the most infuriating mansplainings I've dealt with is a man who spent a great deal of time correcting me in what the main themes in Hugo's Les Miserables are. I was talking about the book, which I have read many times. He had only seen the musical. Not even any of the many films. Just the musical.
I think I've been mansplained on just about every subject under the sun at one point or another. I have learned to let them dig a little hole and then step in ever so sleekly with my superior knowledge/experience/qualifications/facts.

I've got two stories: After shoveling out four feet of snow from an entire double-wide driveway, some male dill-hole came by and told me I had done it all wrong. It took all my strength not to bury him in a snowbank. When working in IT support, guys would walk right by me when I went to meet them, because they thought the mail room guy was the one who could give them internet access. Then they'd call me in a panic later when they couldn't get online, and I'd cackle madly to myself.
Had an endocrinologist comment that a new medication he was prescribing might "upset my tummy." My tummy? Really. I was 55 at the time, a college professor with two masters & he says "tummy"? Last time I ever saw that doctor.
FWIW, you'd be shocked how many people with advanced education can't handle the words we use for anatomy ---- stomach, abdomen, intestines, etc. It's really weird, but they exist.

Just had a reminder of a fun one from a few years ago. As some of you may know from my handle, I'm a big Elton John fan. More than 40 years of massive fandom under my belt. I know the man, his music, his band, his LIFE. Watched and commented with delight on a very rare video on YouTube that included Bernie Taupin (his lyricist all these years). Took about 30 seconds before Some Guy had to tell me, no, that's not Bernie, that's Nigel Olsson, his longtime drummer. I had to link to the actual spot in the video where Bernie clearly plays the tubular bells. At least he publically apologized. I used to have a neighbour down the hall always up in my laundry business. One day he was watching me load my laundry into the washer and had the nerve to tell me how I was doing laundry wrong, and even mentioning how long he's been doing laundry. I feel like many of the people doing mansplaining do not do it only to women, they just need to spout their nonsense and feel superior, no matter who they are talking to. Also everything is not necessarily mansplaining, if some expert is showing how something works and the person they are explaining it to happens to be the one who designed it.. how would they know? if it was their responsibility to show how things work then how is it mansplaining.
I once sold my art (I'm a printmaker) at an art festival. An older guy approaches my stall and starts explaining to me how etching presses work and why drypoint is so superior to linocut, which is what I do. He never made a print himself in hin entire life. I was 27 at the time but looking younger. I kept telling him: I know about drypoint. I know how to use an etching press, signaling to my work behind me. He did not stop.
another situation: I am at a BBQ with my bf who is latino. Everyone else there is latino, too, except this german guy. I have terrible, terrible seasonal allergies and chronic congestion. No one really took it seriously until I started working for myself six years ago. It got so bad - I would wake up, welcome the children, and then just lean over my kitchen counter and sob. Told me - yes - she could see that my sinuses were damaged and that I needed help. We started by taking out my tonsils and adenoids (I'd always been laughed at when I suggested it) and then she put me on medication, gave me a septal plug and kept a close eye on things. I got a lot healthier within the next few years. I'm not sure what separated us but I know she had
a baby, there was a family emergency that had her on an emergency trip to India and I had to see her replacement the last few times. He immediately told me that I was imagining things, my sinuses looked great, and I had to argue with him to get my medication renewed. He said 'fine, it doesn't do a damn thing but if it makes you feel better.' I got the e-mail last week that my normal doctor was returning and who did I want to see. Most of mine involve doctors, including the obe who tried to convince me my arm wasn't broken. One weekend of swelling later we demanded an xray. Several wrist bones were ALSO broken. My best ones usually happen on the internet so I give them a pass because they wouldn't know this unless I bring it up, but I've had many instances of men explaining English language to me. I have a BA in English from a major university in my country. Admittedly now a useless degree in my small town but where else would I use it except to make people shut up on the internet? My dad takes the case and I've given up, he's set in his ways. But I was amazing with computers in my teens (early 00's). While using the computer he would often explain how to use it. I appreciate the help from someone who took computer classes because his job was changing, but forgetting that I set up and programed the computer for him did get annoying.
I have many, many examples of this. The most baffling one did not happen to me but to my sister, age 58. A man tried to explain to her how to boil water (how you can tell it is boiling).
I work at a restaurant and im in charge of the beer. If anyone needs advice they usually ask looking at the menu, look up to me and say 'oh nevermind'. Usually they go and ask my male coworker or just order our regular lager. Sometimes when i just keep on talking i can impress them but usually they stop listening. Story time: so, I just did my nails the night before church, on the way to church I was talking to my mom about them. My brother asked “why do you care about your nails? No man cares about what your nails look like.” So I politely explained that I don’t do nails for men I do them for myself or sometimes my girl friends. He completely disagreed and tried to explain that no woman dresses for herself or other women and we all dress for men. Try reading the essay that was mentioned at the beginning, "Men Explain Things To Me" by Rebecca Solnit. Perhaps then you will understand (or maybe not). When someone wants to splain, it doesn't matter WHAT you tell them.

Rather than acknowledge that it's a certain type of person that does this, not a specific gender, we promote this highly offensive, blatantly sexist expression because it makes up feel better. You all know women do this too. Condescension is not gender-specific.

FWIW, you'd be shocked how many people with advanced education can't handle the words we use for anatomy ---- stomach, abdomen, intestines, etc. It's really weird, but they exist.

Just had a reminder of a fun one from a few years ago. As some of you may know from my handle, I'm a big Elton John fan. More than 40 years of massive fandom under my belt. I know the man, his music, his band, his LIFE. Watched and commented with delight on a very rare video on YouTube that included Bernie Taupin (his lyricist all these years). Took about 30 seconds before Some Guy had to tell me, no, that's not Bernie, that's Nigel Olsson, his longtime drummer. I had to link to the actual spot in the video where Bernie clearly plays the tubular bells. At least he publically apologized. Imagine trying to tell me, of all people, what Nigel and Bernie looked like, lol. Oh, the ironing ;-)
Now my bf is a pretty good guy, but I about lost my mind when he started telling me that if I wanted to lose weight all I had to do was drink a glass of water when I first wake up in the morning. LMAO. People, I'm 39, I've dedicated my life to fitness and and I got certified as a Holistic Nutritionist just so I could learn (my day job is Graphic Design which I have a BS and MFA in). I've been taking fitness classes, hitting the gym, riding my bike, running, hiking etc... steadily for decades. I've tried every diet fad and nutrition plan in the book. I used to have a neighbour down the hall always up in my laundry business. One day he was watching me load my laundry into the washer and had the nerve to tell me how I was doing laundry wrong, and even mentioning how long he's been doing laundry. As if I wasn't taught growing up. But I've dealt with the same condescending assumptions I'm stupid at laundry from men and women, including other instances. It's not just a problem with men. Women are just as bad.

I feel like many of the people doing mansplaining do not do it only to women, they just need to spout their nonsense and feel superior, no matter who they are talking to. Also everything is not necessarily mansplaining, if some expert is showing how something works and the person they are explaining it to happens to be the one who designed it.. how would they know? if it was their responsibility to show how things work then how is it mansplaining.
I once sold my art (I'm a printmaker) at an art festival. An older guy approaches my stall and starts explaining to me how etching presses work and why drypoint is so superior to linocut, which is what I do. He never made a print himself in hin entire life. I was 27 at the time but looking younger. I kept telling him: I know about drypoint. I know how to use an etching press, signaling to my work behind me. He did not stop.
another situation: I am at a BBQ with my bf who is latino. Everyone else there is latino, too, except this german guy. We chatted in german for a while, he asked about my spanish, so I told him I spoke well. I later proceeded to chat with my bf in spanish, which german guy heard. I have terrible, terrible seasonal allergies and chronic congestion. No one really took it seriously until I started working for myself six years ago. It got so bad - I would wake up, welcome the children, and then just lean over my kitchen counter and sob. There was so much pressure in my head...it concentrated close to my eyes and the pain was unbearable. I woke up on one January 1, and my ears were plugged so hard I was nearly deaf. It stayed like that for months. I went to an eye doctor who said nothing was wrong and FINALLY got a referral to an ENT. That beautiful woman took my seriously for the first time in my life. Told me - yes - she could see that my sinuses were damaged and that I needed help. We started by taking out my tonsils and adenoids (I'd always been laughed at when I suggested it) and then she put me on medication, gave me a septal plug and kept a close eye on things. I got a lot healthier within the next few years. I'm not sure what separated us but I know she had
a baby, there was a family emergency that had her on an emergency trip to India and I had to see her replacement the last few times. He immediately told me that I was imagining things, my sinuses looked great, and I had to argue with him to get my medication renewed. He said 'fine, it doesn't do a damn thing but if it makes you feel better.' I got the e-mail last week that my normal doctor was returning and who did I want to see. I told them I wanted to see her and told them why. When I meet with her - that jerk is going down.

I work at a restaurant and im in charge of the beer. If anyone needs advice they usually ask looking at the menu, look up to me and say 'oh nevermind'. Story time: so, I just did my nails the night before church, on the way to church I was talking to my mom about them. My brother asked “why do you care about your nails? No man cares about what your nails look like.” So I politely explained that I don’t do nails for men I do them for myself or sometimes my girl friends. Rather than acknowledge that it's a certain type of person that does this, not a specific gender, we promote this highly offensive, blatantly sexist expression because it makes up feel better. You all know women do this too. Condescension is not gender-specific.
