While we all need a fair share of news to keep up to date with the world around us, the truth is, we don’t always benefit from that emotionally. Quite often the opposite happens. What we read or watch or hear may upset us, leaving us anxious and irritated for the rest of the day.

Sometimes it’s the sheer facts that trigger us negatively, like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or the dreadful plastic pollution in the oceans. And other times, it’s not the facts but rather the presentation of how one thing or another is told to us.

The headlines, for example, are notorious for inflating and misrepresenting things and we always have to take them with a pinch of salt. And even if we do, they may still frustrate us, as they did to people on the Trashy community on Reddit. Below we wrapped up the headlines that, according to people, have maddened them the most.

Indeed! Then if I stood up for myself, I was the one who got in trouble… not the bully!

So the mother got bullied by the school district in order to see a video of her daughter being bullied on a bus used by said school district. What the actual flipping heck?

I feel like this is extortion of some sort... it has to be illegal. It could be putting a child in danger, and maybe the school would be responsible for that issue.

I said the same thing. The only word for this is extortion. US public schools are funded by US taxpayers. That footage was hers to view on demand for free.

Poor little girl. Who can bully at such a young age? I feel like the little kids at my son’s school are too sweet to even think to bully (he’s 6). They just don’t know how to hate like that. Does this happen this young often??

Unfortunately bullying can happen at any age. I have a lot of young kids in my family and just last week my 4yr old neice was crying and told me kids in her nursery make fun of her and call her a boy because she likes superheroes and wore a marvel t-shirt one day. My sister had to move her and her 3yr old brother to a new nursery a few months ago after she told us that a little girl was bullying her little brother and liked to throw stones at him in the playground, the nursey teachers apparently never saw anything, so his 4yr old sister had been trying to stop it.

Let me get this straight. The US public school system is funded by the US taxpayer and some of those funds are allocated for security and surveillance of school property to ensure the safety of children. Not only did that fail to keep this child safe but the mother, who has already paid for the security footage by virtue of being a district resident and US taxpayer, was denied access to that footage unless she was able and willing to get past a paywall...for what reason, exactly? I can't think of any other word for this but "extortion".

Wtf? I’d sue the school. These schools are getting crazy. First the lunch debt pay off refusal and now the extortion? What’s making them think this behavior is ok?

Call the police. Your daughter was assaulted. The video becomes evidence and the police will seize it.

That's totally illegal. Any incident caught on video while a child is still considered to be on school property (you're on school property until you get off the bus) should be available to the child's parents/guardian ON REQUEST. Even if the busses are leased by a district, as opposed to owning them, the bus company is under contract to follow district policies. I sincerely hope this was resolved in the family's favor.

I'd pay the 600 and then go head hunting on the entire school board and city officials all the way up and including the mayor.

If she talks to a lawyer, the price will probably drop like a bomb... since the district is liable for the safety of the children on school buses.

Hire a lawyer, have the lawyer file a suit, in the suit demand discovery that includes that video and you'll get it for free.

Not a f#@king chance in Hell. Taxpayers PAY the salaries of teachers, admin, and for bus services in their taxes. They already HAVE paid for that video footage!

When my son was 3, he managed with one swing of his arm to knock multiple bottles of lotion off a low shelf causing one to crack open and spill lotion all over. I was very much watching my kid. He wasn’t goofing off. Genuine accident. We (he helped, kinda) put the non-broken ones away and we went up to costumer service to pay for the broken lotion. It was a weird conversation. Me: My son broke this lotion. I think I’m supposed to pay for it. Employee: Do you want the lotion? M: No. E: Then you don’t have to pay for it. I told him which aisle so they could clean it up and we continued shopping. You are responsible for your kids and their actions and mistakes. Our family phrase is: Look with your eyes, not your hands. when we’re in public, at stores, etc. I didn’t understand why we didn’t pay for the lotion. Felt guilty. I very much don’t understand this headline, but I also don’t know what I’d do if my son broke something I couldn’t afford to pay for.
