41-Year-Old Woman Decided To Stop Covering Up Her Hair Because She’d Spent 21k Dollars In Hair Salons
Embracing who you really are without caring what others think is really important in order to live a happy life and to start loving yourself. People will always have opinions on you, good and bad. But in the end, the only opinion that matters is yours. That’s exactly why Miranda Parker, 41, from Michigan, decided to stop listening to the haters and look the way she wants to.
Miranda had always dyed her hair brown. She noticed gray hairs on her head when she was 20 and from then on, decided to keep dyeing it. Because that’s just what people do. Eventually, she realized that it was just causing her stress and costing her a lot of money. Miranda calculated that she’d spent around 21,000 dollars at salons, getting her hair done.

She told Bored Panda: “I stopped coloring my hair at 38 years old. I was tired of the frequent salon visits and planning my life around my root touch-up schedule.
I was excited and nervous when I stopped dyeing my hair. I knew there would be judgment and I wasn’t sure if I was strong enough for that. But I also felt like if I could get through it, that I would really like the color.”

“Nowadays I love my hair! I love the color and how healthy it is! My confidence has grown tremendously through this process. I learned to not care what anyone else thinks or has to say about my hair. It’s my hair and my choice to wear it as I wish. That concept extended into all aspects of my life through this process. My hair, my choice. My body, my choice. My life, my choice. Do what makes YOU happy and not what others want you to do or think you should do. It’s so freeing!”

On her newest Instagram post, she wrote: “I’m 41 years old and have been getting gray hair since my mid-20s. 2.5 years ago, at 38, I decided I had enough of the coloring every two weeks and being embarrassed by something I have zero control over. I took it into my own hands to own the gray and just make it a part of me.

“It’s a long journey, but it has been SO worth it. I am proud to rock my silver. It’s made me a stronger and more confident woman (because you are going to get some pushback and negative comments, but they just fuel my fire to be me.)
It can look different depending on lighting… the silver shines bright in natural light and can look darker indoors. I have a streak down the middle that I love when I pull it up in a bun or pony.

What is the obsession with Grey hair? I mean, it is cool that people are becoming ok with it, but it has been a story at least a few times and is always on the "Popular on Bored Panda"
I think it's a great trend, in that it encourages more comfortability and confidence in women, for less time and money. It normalizes another way to be, outside the status quo, and may inspire others to try something that's right for them. HOWEVER this woman gets a full BP article because she's an "influencer" with xxx followers?? You should know better than to glorify the likes, BP. Just another human being, give her a slot on the list.

I don’t get it either. And I don’t know why everyone here hasn’t picked up on the fact that almost all of these women appear to have perfectly colored salon hair. If I stopped bleaching my hair blonde, it wouldn’t look like any of these women! If you want perfect gray hair, that requires a process as well. So whether you want your hair to look like the woman on the right OR the left in these pictures, neither one is “natural.” Not all women “go gray” in such perfect style. Some of us have merely faded to a dishwater-dull color and just want to perk things up. And I have no idea why anyone would spend that kind of money for salon services when you can do a simple rinse at home for the color she has. Either way, nothing natural here...

I dye my own hair and spend around 8€ for it. Also, her hair is stylized and you can see highlights here and there. Besides, 15 years old are dying their hair grey so it looks more like a fashion choice than embracing the fact that you're in your 40s.
Why would she spend 21k at a salon when you can just color it at home? She made a poor decision to set a giant pile of money on fire by getting a simple brown color done at a salon, which cost enough for her to color it herself more than 10x over. She'd look a lot younger if she bought a box of Garnier for 8 bucks. 6 when it's on sale. I spend about $50/year coloring my hair by doing it myself. Then again, idgaf about instagram. Some people just need that sweet, sweet attention from internet strangers.

Well, considering I'm seeing 20 somethings purposely dying their hair grey, I hardly call her choice "brave"...grey is "in". And ad a 50 something myself, I have never seen grey hair grow in so, perfectly. It's almost like she had it done. Just my opinion. Another attention seeker. It
My hair has been gong grey since i was 16 (quite a few years ago). It's about 50/50 grey dark brown now. I've never dyed it and had a guy at work recently say he was jealous of the way it striped naturally.
Her natural hair (like most people's) looks great. It's a shame many women spend so much time trying to adhere to fashion trends than appreciating the beauty they already have. As a guy I find it amazing the time and money women spend trying to compete with other women by dying their hair, using makeup (which it literally cleverly marketed face paint), fake tan and so on. None of this is for men, as at best men don't care; or worse they don't really like it but pretend to. Even body acceptance isn't a consequence of mens attitudes, but women judging other women!
Her hairdresser wasn't doing her any favors coloring her hair that flat dark brown. Dark colors look horrible with aging skin. The dark color made her look haggard.
Love your grey hair - you totally rock the look. I started going grey in high school. For a short period of time I did colour my hair to fit in but decided to go natural. Luckily, my job didn't require me to have any particular look. Friends and family members commented but were mostly supportive.
