Overconfident Dad Tries Being Pregnant For A Day, Struggles Miserably
For dads, the experience of expecting a child isn’t as hands-on as for moms. Though they might take the brunt of responsibilities, their routine mostly revolves around waiting. However, every dad has their own way of waiting for their firstborn, and some find it a great opportunity to exercise their silly dad humor along the way.
An Australian man named Maitland Hanley did that and more, and his silly experience gave him an opportunity to experience solidarity and empathy with his wife while she’s expecting. What was the magical solution that helped Maitland achieve all of that? Well, he strapped watermelons on his torso and tried being pregnant for a day.

Maitland and Jessica, the Brisbane-based Australian couple, both work in the field of content creation, and as such, appreciate a good opportunity when it presents itself. Even more so when the hollowed present of the paternity came into play.

Maitland is an ambitious man, and has created his own outlet for his media escapades. Over the months, he created TikTok, YouTube, Instagram channels dedicated to his content. Judging by a glance, the “pregnancy experiment” is completely in character with other videos, which tend to focus more on the humorous, silly side of the things. Check out his channels for more, and make sure you follow him on your preferred platform, as that would greatly help the aspiring creator’s efforts.

As many of you probably suspect, being pregnant isn’t just all about carrying extra weight, or having a limited range of motion. The body shifts and compresses some organs (which is painful even to read) to make room for the baby. Hormones go all out of whack and create the infamous mood swings, cravings and anxiety. Constant nausea and puking. This is just the tip of the mountain of all the challenge that a woman has to go through all while expecting a baby.
Going in and out of bath became a bother

However, Maitland also enjoyed some pleasant victories as well

For example, he was very good at putting on shoes

And his pushup strength never went away, though it probably wasn’t safe for the ‘baby’

There are some perks of having a large belly, as it can act as a small table

Though these videos should not be understood as educational, they’re certainly can be considered informational and entertaining. The video series have been a great success for the fairly new account, where his most popular video of him trying to get out of bed got 1.6m views, making it the highlight of his TikTok account, which enjoys 166k followers at the moment.
Here’s a video that shows his funny struggle

Share on FacebookBeautiful family, funny experiment. For anyone who is truly pregnant, PLEASE roll out of bed! Do not try to use your abdominal muscles to sit up! Pregnancy can cause stretching and pulling apart of the abdominal muscles, resulting in diastasis recti (basically a hole in your abs!). He says the push ups probably aren't safe for the baby, but they're not safe for the mom, either, because they put direct pressure on the abdominal wall! Ask your doctor what exercises are safe for you, probably gentle things like side planks, pelvic tilts, etc. Sorry to be serious when he's just being funny, but I wish I had known this years ago.
You may get some of the discomfort, but not the kicks and movements, plus the hormones that makes you endure all. Even though I vomit all through my pregnancies they are still amazing 🙂
Good try and I'd recommend all dads to attempt this even for day. However one must understand that melons are not a great replacement fro a pregnant belly and swollen breasts. Breasts hurt! And they sway and they shuffle as you move. And that belly does not have a hard shell - it sways, too, - with gravity and also with the baby's mood. And the little bugger kicks you - especially when you are trying to sleep. Also, right in your bladder!
I was extremely happy and felt better than any other time in my life with the exception of morning sickness and heartburn but at between 5-7 months I had to go on bedrest 23hrs a day for gestational high blood pressure and toxemia. I gained 50lbs with my 1st but only 22lbs with my 2nd and 19lbs with 3rd and it was worse with them. The bedrest was difficult 😕 and very hard to follow with other children but it all worked out in the end and the 3rd was the last child for us. The men I knew still have a hard time comprehending just what kind of pain, discomfort, and miserable circumstances are involved with the hbp, extreme swelling/edema, and horrible feelings surrounding being stuck feeling like that. There are definitely some aspects of pregnancy that weren't fun.
Haha, some guy straps a watermelon to his stomach with saran wrap and now he suddenly knows what its like to be pregnant. Yeah, RIGHT!!!
