You never know you need a floating tent until you see one. Ohio-based company SmithFly has introduced an inflatable shelter that allows campers to be lulled to sleep by rippling waves underneath, and it’s as remarkable as it sounds.
Dubbed the Shoal Tent, it doesn’t use any poles to sustain its structure. The innovative tent stands out from the rest because it’s completely inflatable and the air pressure inside it is enough to make it stand up to heavy winds. In total, the raft has three air chambers: two in the lower tube, one in the structure. The floor is 6 inches thick, and the fabric of the tent is waterproof, sealed with heavy duty #8 zippers. The topper sides attach and detach via heavy duty hooks and loops, allowing to get in and out easily through the sides if needed.
The whole rig measures up at 8 by 8 feet, having enough height to allow a 6’3″ person to stand inside it. It weighs about 75 lbs (34 kg) and sells for $1,499.

One question: what do you do if you want to pee in the middle of the night?
Looks fun! Especially since i find the slight movement of waves very nice to fall asleep to. I've actually accidentally fallen asleep in many canoes while lying down in them on a lake to get away from trees for stargazing, haha.
Sounds fun...but don't think I can sleep in it as I would be too worried of the tent collapsing while I sleep and me going underwater in the middle of the night.
Oh, when you literally have monsters under your bed....
Load More Replies...Ah yes, the gentle lapping of the waves, the soothing drone of mosquitoes.
You'd set it up on a lake to prevent that XD And it's probably anchored lol
Load More Replies...I never felt so sad about going out to bee several times every night...
I'd float it in the middle of a swimming pool and sleep in it. The rocking motion would lull me to sleep.
I've never been really into camping but I might be tempted to do something like this at least once. I wonder if it's possible to take the roof off temporarily so you can see the stars.
This is actually an old item. I have seen these yrs ago as life rafts for large boats.
Sounds really awesome actually. (If your boat doesn't decide to take go skinny dipping in the middle of the night, or sinking as some people call it)
Sister: That's cool Me: looks fun Me(inside): what if it deflates while I'm sleeping and i get trapped on the bottom and i die! Me( meant to be inside): stop it anxiety Sister: ( slowly scooting away) okay then....
Hmmmm... with all the flooding in the past few years, maybe not a bad idea. Sort of like the second story rope ladder in case of fire. Just climb out the window into the tent and float. Probably not good in winds or fast current, but when you are waiting for the water to go down???
Seems good, careful if there are rapids nearby, but otherwise looks fun!
