I am very overweight and know I need to lose it, bullying me or pointing it out to me doesn’t help. It actually makes it worse. I am a stress eater and also suffer from severe depression and compulsive eating disorder. Which is an eating disorder the same as anorexia and bullimia. I used to be thin, when I met my hubby, I was 16 and I weighed 47-49kgs. I am 32 and now weigh over double that. I know what I need to do to lose weight, I managed it before and lost 3 and a half dress sizes. But I then fell pregnant and put it all back on plus extra. I want to lose weight so badly and I know what works for me, it is just getting in the right mind frame to make better choices and motivation. Unfortunately I don’t have the mind set. I have good intentions planned but don’t put it into practice. It’s so hard and it doesn’t help that I have injuries that impact on my exercise but my weight impacts on my injuries.
Hi Foxxy! Good for you for losing weight before and for wanting to do so again. I can completely relate. Looking back at your past and recognizing that you did succeed is important! To stay in that frame of mind, maybe think about all the great ways a healthy lifestyle will positively impact your child! You could learn to cook healthy meals together, you could walk in a park and learn about insects, plants, animals, etc. It's not just about the food and the dress size--and you know that!! :) How much fun you could have as a family if you all just start to make little healthy updates, or start a new hobby, or learn a new skill that incorporates health-positive things like fresh air, sunshine, creativity, etc! You could start something new that will benefit your family for years to come! You've got this girl!!

Teasing or bullying? Do they honestly think that they will force him to lose weight by making fun of him? His mother probably views bringing him junk food as a way of showing her love, since she knows that food is something that he loves. A person who has never struggled with their weight has no idea what that struggle is like. They have no right to judge another person. It's sad to hear that his main motivations to lose weight were to stop the teasing, to make friends, and to attract girls. LiliumVA has made some good points. Self esteem has to come from within. Change has to come from within.
Exactly. Mocking somebody for their weight is only going to make it worse. As a person who wants to loose a few kgs (who doesnt?) each time that i see my family and they (normally my sister, father or granmas) make fun of my belly it just hurts so much that destroys my motivation to exercise and eat less... I just want to lose a few kgs, I cant imagine how much worse it would be for people who is really overweight...

I hate to be that person, but I think the government really needs to step in and regulate what can and can not be made. Sugar is more addictive than most drugs and it's worse for you than saturated fats. We have been eating fats in our diets since we've drawn stick figures on walls. Sugars are new and only became wide spread in foods less than 100 years ago. Same with processed foods. I'm all for free enterprise and capitalism; but not at the cost of societies health. It's not just a health issues but also an economic issue. How much money do we spend on health related issues for over weight people (including myslef) every year? How much do we spend on medical research for weight loss surgery and heart disease every year?
Your healthcare cost reason in the only possible rational one for the government stepping in. Everybody has access to all the free diet and nutrition information they need, so it's not like it's a conspiracy. The government has no place in telling me what I should or shouldn't put in my body. They make nutrition labels mandatory (and ingredients) which is good because it helps us make informed decisions, but banning things is the wrong move.

Sugar and junk food are addictive and it's sad that parents get their kids hooked on this s**t. Also, poor diet will cause depression, anxiety and lack of concentration.
You know... I'm fat too. Am I trying to lose something? Yes. Do I feel better when I get rid of two kilos? YES! Am I successful in getting thiner, healthier and stronger? Well... not as much as I would like. But no matter what others say or do, it is always me who is feeling better. You do not need to impress anyone. Your only judge is you. Are you happy with yourself? Maybe. Can you be better? Sure, everbody can improve in some way. Do you need help with it? Maybe, everybody can use a little push.
It is hard, and blaming ourselves (my mind is against me ) actually makes things worse. The weight loss goal can also actually make things harder as well. Because it is a long term thing, and we don't see the change as often as we see the problem ( junk food).
